Been using Cakewalk since Sonar 8.5 studio, 2009. Upgraded to Sonar x2, then the free Cbb. Purchased a year of the new Sonar for $70 on black Friday. I still learn new things. As a home hobbyist, it has everything I'll ever need and more. I'm willing to continue paying $70 a year if they offer that to me. I don't know who runs Cakewalk's marketing dept. but they really need to get on the ball. The way they've done the Sonar release is a lesson in not how to do it. It's time to redeem themselves and offer a perpetual license. I bet their market share is dropping like a rock.
I had Sonar Platinum back in its final days as a professional DAW. I was super happy when Bandlab revived it, up until I realized they didn’t revive all the features and capabilities that made Sonar so good. In my experience (I also have ProTools and Cubase), Sonar was the best overall DAW. So intuitive and easy to use. I actually still use it on my older Windows 10 PC that’s not connected to the internet. I won’t use the Bandlab version until it’s fully restored to how it was at the end of 2017 (but with modern upgrades, of course).
Cakewalk was nice while it was free. I was happy to have it while it lasted: allowed me to salvage some old Sonar projects. But it seems to 'call home' on startup so they can brick it any time they want to. I don't have any confidence that this won't happen. Like many others, I have moved to Reaper. The default options seem more intuitive to me, and the track routing capabilities are much better.
I saw a bunch of people getting excited about the seasonal price for the Bandlab subscription but they didn't notice that they raised the full price to $171. I really liked CWb but I had to switch to REAPER. I'm gonna miss it But I git a lot of music done in the few years that I had it.
To each their own, but the second they started making moves with Cakewalk I just decided to switch over to Reaper. I don’t want to have all that indecision hanging over my head.
That's why Have Presonus Studiolive 32 sx and MPC live 2, MPC key 37 and Machine+ with outboard gear. They shut any daw down it will work as long as the equipment holds up.
That's what's up .. I have moved to Reaper.. but I hear good things about studio one ... I will probably do a 30 day challenge for studio one as well... Currently I'm on Cubase and it's pretty good so far but we will see once I dig more into it ..😀🙏🏾
i moved over to Sonar...for me its worth the money..but i totally get what you are saying... after i finish a project, i save it as if i am going to transfer it to a different DAW..i started doing this when gibson screwed us....
@@XELOhh1 This key (R2R) does not force you to perform the act of activation. It works without the Internet. Let's see how it goes. We are waiting. The main thing is not to do the last autumn update for Bandlab - I think that's where the bomb is )))

I disagree despite not really using Cakewalk much these days. It has it's flaws, but is a superior mixing platform than FL. Cakewalk's "worst" feature is lack of quality included instruments. Other than that, it's hard to bash free.
