When they came to Denver last spring I saw TMV and Cedric did this same type of thing. He got really pissed off cuz everyone was spraying their water on stage and it was getting on all their pedals and electonics. I think Cedrics words were "I don't mean to break character but the next person who throws their fucking water up their I wil come down and beat your ass! You can sue me if you want, I dont have any money anyways!"
HAHAHA I FRIKKIN LOVE THIS GUY! I went to one of their gigs about a year ago and no one was throwing themselves into each other, not because they didn't like what they heard but just because they were actually listening. Mars Volta is the kind of band that musically just blows you away... I didn't dance because I was too busy listening... there arn't many bands like that...
I feel very privileged to have been at this show. It was just about the best half-of-a-set that I've ever seen. This moment just made it all the more memorable.
He's being proactive and leading. Making music and expressing himself. You are being reactive and following. Purely listening. There is no self-expression. "It's a sad day when the only way you can express yourself is through slam-dancing."
Fugazi has been saying this for the past 20 years. Crowd surfing/slamdancing was invented by mtv. They know, they've been in bands since the early 80's.
I have people talking about moshing, it's a "thing", you don't tell your friends "Hey I'm going to a concert later today, and I'm gonna dance and jump up and down!" but plenty of times have people said "I'm gonna go to a concert later today, and I'm gonna mosh!"...
Yep, motor78 is right a girl later died at the same festival because of asphyxiation when too many people were "slam dancing"and she couldnt breathe, so Cedric had more than the right to say what he said...
He saw people were acting crazy and was trying to prevent someone from getting hurt. Later on in this show a girl was crushed to death during Limp Bizkit.
Wow mate, your opinions are really praise worthy. I stand by you and with people like you who are brave enough to be who they really are instead of following a trend and bashing everyone who don't. If only the next generation is bought up without ever knowing about our fucked up past, I guess we all can live in peaceful co-existence. I believe that knowing the past effects our present and ruins our future. Mate, I salute you, this world needs more people like you. Thanks.
Im not the biggest volta fan but im always gonna appreciate cedric bixler, No front man has as much energy on stage than him. ATDI amazing, the whole discography.
You're right, this IS an At the Drive-In gig, and probably the reason he grew up and dropped the ego trip was the fact that at this point they were REALLY hitting on the acids and opoids, it would have contributed...
I believe Cosmonaut is the song just before At The Drive-In walk off stage at the Big Day Out 2001 ten minutes in when the crowd refuse to comply with the rules of the event that the band in fact reinforced repediatly. Later on 16 year old Jessica Anna Michalik was severely crushed during the performance by Limp Bizkit and later that day died in hospital of asphyxiation. Limp Bizkit in fact worked the crowd up and even publicly insulted the crowd control staff trying to help those in danger.
Just so everyone on here knows (and I think it's been mentioned before) a girl was actually crushed to death at this show after ATDI left the stage. She suffered a heart attack after being crushed during Limp Bizkit's set (who just so happened to be inciting "slam dancing").
thats because they want everyone rocking out hard to their music, i went to a TMV show and was the only one dancing around all night with people giving me looks like i was an idiot. you know who didnt look at me like an idiot? omar, when he was walking off stage he looked right at me and pointed and gave me a 'hey man glad someone liked it' lol. fact: crowds are shit these days.
now that's how you enjoy a mars volta show, If atdi ever got back together I'd be doing the same thing, fuck everyone else, I'm the one having a blast not them.
Wild that this kid got so big so quickly that he was still young enough to make statements like these that might even be true, but to say them like that. Just hope he has the life experience now to tone it down
@SpasmOfJoy i agree to a point. a lot of at the drive in fans probably dont mosh. and its not exactly the most aggressive kind of music. but still. like, cedric does those crazy dances on stage, but nobody ever insults him for it. thats the way he expresses himself. moving around and slam dancing is just how these kids let out their aggression. its not personal at any level. its merely a form of expression.
he also spoke up at a concert i went to of TMV about moshing. his problem with it wasnt that ppl can get hurt, it was that they are much more complex than some generic punk band, and moshing takes away any artistic value to their music making it only about energy. moshings great when ur seeing The Adolescents or Bad Brains, not so much when ur seeing the Mars Volta.
@NickB33 there is a difference between a energetic crowd that is probably just jumping up and down, and people climbing over each other, shoving each other around, crowd surfing, etc.
When i saw em he said "ITs 2006 and you people still slam dance like a bunch of fuckin amatures. If u wanna get kicked in the face go to Warped Tour or some shit like that." It was pretty great.
genial. cedric es un genio. nunca entendi por que la gente hace eso. vas a un concierto de este tipo a escuchar musica, no a saltar encima de los demas. si quieres hacer eso deberias ir a un recital de punk
I think that was the main reason they doubted so much to get back together, and in the reunion concerts you can see them looking at the crowd and they seem kinda disappointed..
one of the best memories in my life was going to a local joint punk+garage gig. the amount of hipsters who came to dance to the garage was overwhelming. and then, after a couple of garage bands played, the punk band set up, their support of around 10-15 ppl came closer to the stage... and as soon as the first powerchord was played, we went to fucking beat the shit outta hipster wankers who were still close to the stage - old school way. and that's all i have to say about this.
fucking fred durst is a walking bad luck card, guy ruined woodstock and then this and now they want to bring them back again on tour? have we not learned a fucking thing form these situations? I know it's not fred's fault at all but it's their music that atracted wiggers and muscle heads and then crossed over to the other side probably drunk stupid causing trouble and rile people up to slam dance thus resulting a girl's death who probably was just their to finally see her favorite band, which had far more better talent than limp bizkit ever had.
When they came to Denver last spring I saw TMV and Cedric did this same type of thing. Lol that sounds like some shit that I'd say.
as if cedric could beat anyone's ass with his 10 inch arms and diminutive 100 pound soaking wet frame.
@@Yeomannn idk man he seems pretty agile he probably could be like a muhammad ali type where he dodges everything
@@growskull well prob not now since he's in his 50s
@@magpie-yf8gf hes still pretty agile but yeah probably not nowadays

"I have a microphone and you don't, you're a sheep! Baahhhhhh"
classic.
cedric does a really a good sheep baa.
I feel very privileged to have been at this show. It was just about the best half-of-a-set that I've ever seen. This moment just made it all the more memorable.

Who else came here after 8 dead at astroworld?
That's why i respect Cedric so much...
this is probably one of my favorite videos on the internet
Later on in the festival a girl was trampled to death during Bizkits set
So...he was entirely right
Fugazi has been saying this for the past 20 years. Crowd surfing/slamdancing was invented by mtv. They know, they've been in bands since the early 80's.
Yeah, but unlike this dingleberry, Ian MacKaye commands genuine respect.
Slam dancing started before mtv 😂
I heard about this, and I've always wanted to see the movie. Now I have. Good job Cedric. You are my hero.
I have people talking about moshing, it's a "thing", you don't tell your friends "Hey I'm going to a concert later today, and I'm gonna dance and jump up and down!" but plenty of times have people said "I'm gonna go to a concert later today, and I'm gonna mosh!"...

i love the way cedric talks
he sounds pissed, no copying whatsoever of other people. just speaking from his heart.
Im not the biggest volta fan but im always gonna appreciate cedric bixler, No front man has as much energy on stage than him.
ATDI amazing, the whole discography.
Wonderfully put, I agree with u 100%, it shouldnt matter the color of peoples skin just as long as they love thier music.
I have been wanting to see this forever.
a girl died later that night when limp bizkit performed...sooo yeah
hurting yourself is way different than hurting others
I love these guys! They are so original!
I love ATDI and TMV. Cedric is the man with the master plan,I have seen him put folks in their place a few times. :-) this is the funniest one ever.
You're right, this IS an At the Drive-In gig, and probably the reason he grew up and dropped the ego trip was the fact that at this point they were REALLY hitting on the acids and opoids, it would have contributed...

i love their stance on moshing
rock on mars volta. we love you
hahahaa
"i have a microphone and u dont"
pure genius
what a great & honest way to tell 'it' like it is
i totally like that cedric says that, because i agree 100%...great moment.
this wasnt the beginning of the show either
its what hed been observing throughout the show
Cedric is the man.
I agree with what he said.. every bit.
Goddamn Cedric got some burns
Just so everyone on here knows (and I think it's been mentioned before) a girl was actually crushed to death at this show after ATDI left the stage. She suffered a heart attack after being crushed during Limp Bizkit's set (who just so happened to be inciting "slam dancing").
like Cedric's attitude. U R A ROBOT. U R A SHEEP BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaa!
LMFAO! So fucking funny
Cedric is awesome...
I would take it as a huge compliment if the entire crowd was "slam dancing" at my show.
cedric and omar can do what they want
After hearing it over and over I hear him say "wise".
thats because they want everyone rocking out hard to their music, i went to a TMV show and was the only one dancing around all night with people giving me looks like i was an idiot. you know who didnt look at me like an idiot? omar, when he was walking off stage he looked right at me and pointed and gave me a 'hey man glad someone liked it' lol. fact: crowds are shit these days.

Love you Cedric
I fuckin love Cedric.
Good input man.
LOL "I have a microphone and you don't"
"I have a microphone..."
Pretty much sums it up.
wow hes amazing
"you didnt learn that from your best friend! you learned that from the tv! YOU'RE A ROBOT!"
Oh my god I fucking died at his baaaahing
cedric is the man
hahaa "maaaaaah!"
seriously, these guys are geniouses.
@SpasmOfJoy i agree to a point. a lot of at the drive in fans probably dont mosh. and its not exactly the most aggressive kind of music. but still. like, cedric does those crazy dances on stage, but nobody ever insults him for it. thats the way he expresses himself. moving around and slam dancing is just how these kids let out their aggression. its not personal at any level. its merely a form of expression.
you learned that from the tv! you didn't learn that from your best friend! haha :)
he is drugged up, but he just didn't want people beating the shit out of eachother.
you basically just stated what cedric just said, but translated it into high school essay form.
"youre a sheep!!! behehehehe bahhhhh!! I have a microphone and you dont bahh behehehaaahhhh"
cedric its deep. hes a genious
he makes a great point
its these times where i find it hard to be a mars volta fan.
Here's what you don't understand, we ARE enjoying the music. Just because we enjoy music differentlly than you don't make it bad.
Cedric's the man!
God damn, Cedric's awesome.
haha the way he says, "you're a robot!"
The most appropriate time to mosh is during The Smashing Pumpkins's "Disarm."
Some may think it unfortunate, but, he is right in that logic.
Cedric is channeling the soul of Bill Hicks.
They did tour alone, right before their System of a Down tour and it was glorious.
@thatsharkeyguy She wasn't trampled to death. She had a heart attack and died a few days later.
he also spoke up at a concert i went to of TMV about moshing. his problem with it wasnt that ppl can get hurt, it was that they are much more complex than some generic punk band, and moshing takes away any artistic value to their music making it only about energy. moshings great when ur seeing The Adolescents or Bad Brains, not so much when ur seeing the Mars Volta.
That is the most worked up I have ever seen Cedric...
Wow.
If Cedric tell me off. you know what I would say.... yes sir
WORD. you made it clear.. and that's a the final word..
One of my heroes: Cedric
Pretending to be another of my heroes: Bill Hicks
Nothing new here but respect to Cedric for telling it like it is.
ced-driiiiic!!!!!!
so bad.
love it.
I guess that explains why they are at Mars Volta show!
noleno, Cedric is not "inexperienced" on stage, hes been in a band, at the drive-in, since 1995, and is now in this band the mars volta
it actually is the band's concern
they don't want their music to be perceived as violent or agressive.
@NickB33 there is a difference between a energetic crowd that is probably just jumping up and down, and people climbing over each other, shoving each other around, crowd surfing, etc.
@andthemushrooms123 This was before TMV, when Cedric and Omar were in ATDI. ATDI was post-hardcore, which is music that's easy to mosh to.
LMFAO. I'm so glad I'm not a robot.
that was so awesome.their music is so bad ass you cant mosh to it.he doesnt want anything to do with a shitty genre like screamo or dirtball metal.
this is when they were all hopped up on LSD, Weed, Oxy all at the same time hahahaha
"You're a robot, you're a Sheep!".
He's good at making sheep noises!
Mars volta rules.
If you disagree with him then just remember the girl who later died by the same crowd during that same day.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
I started laughing hysterically when I read that comment.
I wish Cedric would incorporate those sheep noises into his vocals.
Smite the shepherd and the sheep will be scattered.
Fuck. Yes.
I. Love. This.
even though he coked out of his mind, he was still right haha
your damn right he was.
look at that, you learned that from the TV!
When i saw em he said "ITs 2006 and you people still slam dance like a bunch of fuckin amatures. If u wanna get kicked in the face go to Warped Tour or some shit like that." It was pretty great.
genial. cedric es un genio.

and that's all i have to say about this.
Someone did die but it was after his speech.
BWAHAHA he singles that guy out crowd surfing!
Later on in the festival a girl was trampled to death during Bizkits set
So...he was entirely right
Oof
ATDI later paid tribute to her during their set in Melbourne. Cedric's heart was in the right place.
fucking fred durst is a walking bad luck card, guy ruined woodstock and then this and now they want to bring them back again on tour? have we not learned a fucking thing form these situations?
