Thank you! Now you have to listen to Warriors - the first appearance of Layne w/ his violin. It won him the lasting nickname of VioLayne. It's rare when he brings it out, and always so welcome. Where does this rank? I've listened to it a zillion times, and I'll never get tired of it. It's simply gorgeous - pure ear candy.
Thank you for this reaction to VoicePlay's "Nothing Else Matters." I absolutely love this arrangement, and this performance. With VoicePlay, definitely cannot choose a favorite. They have me listening to and loving songs that I have never heard. Their arrangement skills are so impressive and have a lot to do with my enjoyment of their work. Of course, their video production is great and so impressive for a 100% indie group who have learned to do so very much for themselves. Just read the video description credits! Wow!
VP did this the week of my birthday, I'd never bothered listening to Metallica. I associated it with NOISE. I gave it some thought, knew how much I have loved anything they had done, so listened to it once and totally fell in love with it. Felt like VP had done it just for my birthday present. If any reactors so this one, I'm all in. Geoff did the arrangement for this, had written a voice for the "guitar solo" and then changed his mind and put Layne (aka VioLayne) on his violin for that part. Chicago got wind of VoicePlay doing an acapella version, so they checked it out, contacted VoicePlay and last Nov 17-18, 2023 brought them on stage for the Chicago and Friends concert. When the stage manager was getting things set up, he asked Eli where they wanted the drums set up. Eli just pointed at Layne and said, "He's it." VoicePlay did some of the music they've done in the past as well as singing with Chicago for some of theirs. If you want to see some of what they did, check out Huldra Draco who was at the concert and filmed video off her phone. If you want to hear Layne do violin some more, as well as J None who did not as much but some of his own violin in Warriors (Imagine Dragons) which was VoicePlay's first of the post-apocalyptic trilogy, followed by Dream On, and the Seven Nation Army.
This was a genius arrangement by Geoff... they all killed this... in so many ways! Yes, that's our very own VioLayne. My favourite Layne arrangement is "In the Air Tonight " (Phil Collins)... but he has done some awesome ones - hard to choose. Eli also arranges occasionally- also brilliant. You are going to LOVE getting on this ride! VP has the widest genre range of the acapella groups - and they always deliver 😉🌹🕊.
I am very old, the wrong generation for Metallica, but I love this. It was absolutely mesmerizing! They did a version of Michael Jackson's The Way You Make Me Feel that I thin you will really, really like!
This one's tied for me with their cover of 'Hoist the Colours' for my favorite VP tune, but there are several others running neck-and-neck for a close second. The Lion Sleeps Tonight and Valhalla Calling come to mind, just offhand. They've got another gorgeous cover in the pipeline and I'm hoping to see it drop very soon!
You are welcome to the rabbit hole that VoicePlay is and to the world of aCapellica😉 I was in my mid twenties when Metallica gave us this song, and l loved it from then to now! About 3 month ago l had VPs version of The Wellerman in my feed and as l liked it, l looked up, what else they had to offer and l found THIS! I couldn't believe it, how dare they? I clicked it intending to dislike it, but boy, was l wrong! It blew me away. For me it is on par with original. The stage in black, the boys in black as homage to The Black Album, the arrangement and harmonies, the bass, the beatboxing, the strike of genius doing the iconic guitar solo by VioLayne, it was so different while true to the original. That was the moment l jumped in the rabbit hole of VP/Geoff and l don't intend to leave any time soon. Thank you for your fun reaction, you mirrored mine in many things,
Voice Play puts their all into all their videos. I haven’t found any I don’t like. This video is one that they just sang but most of their videos are made as a minnie show. I suggest Seven Nation Army, Hoist the Colors, Halloween, Thriller and The Way You Make Me Feel.

Layne has been playing violin since he was 4 years old, though he doesn't get to use it very often being in an a cappella group 😅

It appears you like Michael Jackson. VP just came out with "Thriller". They've done a couple of others too. Enjoy!
