It comes from the success of Warhammer but it really does not work for historical titles imo. Troy was probably the only one where it sort of worked and even then it was not great. And even in Warhammer you still had the proper factions.
exploits arent automatic, you can always ignore them and try to stay historical and balanced instead of just spamming a specific unite just because its Meta . this is why Roleplaying is best way to enjoy a game . its not about finding exploits and winning , its about living the narrative and being realist on how you play
Only 50 user reviews on steam for Pharoah (For release day)... Rome 2 has 45,000 over the course of many years, and the fairly new Warhammer 3 has 63,000. I'm glad CA managed to make a game neither side of the community buys.
WH3 is so much more of a game since it build off of 1 and 2. Pharaoh is just another TW game setting, and arguably less interesting. It was a poor business decision imo, as many people aren't into historical as much. Plus, if they are they have so many other games that cover that already.

Yes, that is the true tragedy here. It isn't that the market demand is low but that what they put out into the market is not what TW Historical title fans want. Medieval 3 or Empire 2 would have sold like hotcakes but they are intent on making new titles, which on its face is fine, yet they do a very bad job.
Luckily game developers can always count on IGN to lie for them (for a price) whereas all independent reviewers are burning the game down. This one even sounds like he's parotting a script given to him without ever having played the game.
Based on the comments made, the verdict sounds more like a 6 than an 8. It looks like a saga compared to 3k. Taking on a leader and not a faction makes me feel like a 3k. While appropriate there, it isn't here.
Yeah, this is more a side project to bring in some money while we wait for the next major release. Now that they are done with Warhammer, I'm really hoping we get Medieval 3 with the update engine. We got Rome 2....it;s time for Medieval 3!

Honestly after getting more into paradox games, it's hard to go back into total war because the diplomacy, politics, trade, population dynamics etc feel so surface level

(original release had 5,424 all time peak, they re-released it as Total War: PHARAOH DYNASTIES) For comparison: Rome II, a game that is 11 years old has 3,575 active players, 5,499 24-hour peak and 118,240 all-time peak. Three Kingdoms, a game that was abandoned by developers and is over 5 years old, has 1,694 active players, 6,436 24-hour peak and 192,298 all-time peak. Medieval 2, game that was released 18 years ago has 3,173 active players,4,885 24-hour peak and 8,419 all-time peak. So even after addition of Babylon, Assyrians , Troy, Mycenae, massive map overhaul, it is still outperformed by basically every other TW game. So how is this person a TW veteran? Is playing a TW game for 50 hours considered being an expert? Most TW players play these games for hundreds if not for thousands of hours. Get someone who actually knows ins and outs of games, not "map looks nice, and I can travel faster if I sail down the river".

8/10? Is this some out of season april fool's joke? You know that "reviewers" like yourself giving these delusionally high grades are one of the root causes that Historical Total War is dying, right? You're straight up lying to fans of the genre. I've seen the previews, the analyses, and now the reviews. All of the new and interesting design choices, the nice graphics.. they don't matter if the core gameplay is a shell of its former self. Missed opportunity to speak the truth, and if you've played Total War for 20 years, shame on you for doing so.

Most of the TW fan base asked for Medieval 3, Empire 2 or Shogun 3. And they keep dishing out expansions games which can be DLC for bigger projects 😂

Combat seems meh. The campaign map looks great but there is a reason why I'd chose to play ME2 over this. Im hoping modders can do something to fix combat but doubtful.
