    This is how to power a rgb led strip with a power bank. The power bank has an output of 5V so we need to step up the voltage to 12V. Compared to the older approach it is way easier this time since everything that we need is already put together in the form of a step-up module cable. In this video tutorial I'll show you how to wire everything and demonstrate the functionality.

    Hello chris. I'm trying to add two ,1 1/2 foot l.e.d. outdoor strips with sticky backing on my bicycle.
    Ran by a rechargeable power bank . Best items to use for this project? Thank you so very much

    Heya! Thanks for this video. Question - if my 5m led strip requires 12 v 10a and I only plan on using 4 feet, do i still need a boost thingie? Can't I just get a 12v power bank and attach it to the controller somehow? Please help me - I'm completely new to all this and lost - but I don't want to burn down my house or melt anything

    I’m trying to power 8 feet of 12 V Rgb lights on a coffee table. Which power banks should I purchase? Would like the LED’s to last a few hours. It would have to connect to the wifi controller I have which is 2.1 mm input. So I need the right powerbank and the step up cable from my understanding.

      There are tiny and rather good 12V car starter power banks around. Just google it, for like 25$ you can get 10000mAh easily and they are hella powerful. But you actually don't need that for just 5 LEDs. Just get a tiny one with like 4000mAh. Hope this helps.

    Hello i have a 20,000 mah bank a10,000 and a small 3,000 mah Do you know how long the battery pack could last with Led’s full power on?? Also with your experience how often do they shut off due to power-bank inactivity ??

    • @ChrisViralVlogs
      @ChrisViralVlogs  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Without knowing the length and power consumption of your strip I can't tell you anything. Also if there's enough power drawn from I bank it shouldn't shut off randomly.

    i have a 22000mah power bank, how long would i be able to power 4m of LED strips?

    • @ChrisViralVlogs
      @ChrisViralVlogs  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm the strip will for sure consume close to 2A continuously at 12V = 24W. Your PB has 22000mAh @ 3.7V I assume so 81.4Wh.... Divide 81.4 by 24 -> so 3-4 hours if your PB is powerful enough to power the strip :3

      @@ChrisViralVlogs I wanna connect a 32.8 ft led strips to my bike. I bought a 6k mah 12v battery will that work?

  • @bentstrider
    @bentstrider 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I put together a 30ft strip of LEDs and ran it off of a 12v battery, then a 48v to 12v buck converter. 12v battery was kind of dim, while the step down converter was putting out some intense luminosity. Of course that was at the expense of draining the ebike battery quicker than normal.
    I'm going to give this 10k maH power supply and step up converter a shot to see what happens.
    Worse comes to worst, might have to switch over to some 5v LED strips for the bicycle.

    • @ChrisViralVlogs
      @ChrisViralVlogs  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I can tell you one thing... 30ft/9m is way too much for a regular power bank. The maximum is around 5m/16ft as I found out but optimal not more than 3m/10ft with the setup shown in the video.

    I need some help. im using a 1 meter plain white 5v LED Strip with a USB connection and i just bought an anker power bank but the LED isnt lighting up. any suggestions?

    • @ChrisViralVlogs
      @ChrisViralVlogs  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The power bank is probably not strong enough, i.e. it can't deliver the needed power. Can test this theory by shortening the strip. If you try a short section and see it light up then you at least know that the power bank and the cable will work.

  • @chenks76
    @chenks76 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    do any of these solutions give 12V 5A output? most i've seen give at most 2A out. i'm looking for something similar to power a RGB+CCT WW/CW zigbee controller and it needs at least 12V 3A (or 5A if LED strip is longer). think my LED strip will be 2M-3M max.

    • @jonathanf9028
      @jonathanf9028 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you find something? Looking into the exact same thing you are describing.

    • @ChrisViralVlogs
      @ChrisViralVlogs  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Let's do some math because I think this is close to impossible (with a regular power bank).
      5V 2A out = 10W (of power) so step up to 12V 1A is already more than that (12W).
      Now think about the enormous power output that you'll need: 12V x 5A = 60W
      Power banks around this classification are for sure extremely expensive, bad what I can recommend is, that you build your own little battery pack (3S or 4S with 18650 Li-Ion batteries) and then hook up a 12V stabilizer. It is fairly easy to make, check out this video of mine for example: th-cam.com/video/hU5DYmJ8jLc/w-d-xo.html

    • @ChrisViralVlogs
      @ChrisViralVlogs  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    A little off topic to your video but maybe someone can help. When I plug in a USB led strip (about 8 inches long) directly to my power bank, the LEDs flash with very low brightness, around once a second. When I power on the power bank, the LEDs power on as usual, nice and bright.
    How do I stop the LEDs from drawing power when the power bank is off?

    • @ChrisViralVlogs
      @ChrisViralVlogs  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, the reason for this are cheap electronic components. This is also called a zombie glow. You can't fix that so you have to unplug it if you don't want the glow.

    Why buy the 5 V to 9V product in the description when the led strip requires 12 volts ? Because they also sell 5 v to 12 v cables online

    so that cable causes the voltage to rise to 12v and works with any power bank ... I've seen tutorials to install it on an xiaomi 365 scooter but I don't want to invade my scooter's battery ... look it must be adapted with a 12v battery so that I can turn on the led lights, but I don't get that battery and I also know that these rgb led with usb port exist, but mine are for connection to a normal wall outlet and it seems to me that you are clearing my doubts .. just looking this 12v usb cable in a power bank ... is it seriously ... ?????

    • @ChrisViralVlogs
      @ChrisViralVlogs  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, this is a 5V to 12V step-up cable. If the power bank has a regular 5V output it will work. But just know... The the PB has no proper protection circuit you can actually fry the power bank if the load you connect will draw too much power 🙈
