My only wish of minifreak is by now arturia should have brought out a full key version. Considering it's success too.

Given that the Minifreak came out around two and a half years after the Micro, and receives firmware updates at a roughly similar cadence, _and_ it's been just over two years since the Mini dropped, I wouldn't be surprised if there's a Matrixfreak / Polyfreak / Megafreak in the oven for next year...

I don't own a minifreak, but damn does this look exciting for minifreak owners.

Is the reverb the built in FX on the MiniFreak? It sounds really nice and smooth, but clear with these sample/granular models. Sort of like the Novation Peak's reverb. Much better than the Hydrasynths reverb. It's a good combo, because those Plait's and Wavetable like digital edges these have give that nice reverb something to chew on. I found on the MicroFreak that without that, it sounded a bit pointy, edgy and bare. With the reverb, those edges actually have a nice character.

Since Minifreak V is used as the update tool for the Minifreak, you bet it is updated!

Ok it passes the unperson test.
I'm undecided on the Minifreak or the Hydrasynth. If I get the Hydrasynth it will be the original with the CS-80 style strip. But if I get the Minifreak I will save some money and it has a million different synth engines now. Really like the Hydra though. It sounds epic. But so does the Mini. My head is spinning and I'm not getting both.

I have both synths and I’ve come to think of them like this: the Hydrasynth is a sound design machine. Do you like getting deep into parameters and spending time crafting sounds? The minifreak is a performance machine. It’s very immediate, with a fun sequencer and good sounds. Both are capable for of great sounds but ultimately the Hydrasynth is a deeper sound design synth, but lacking a sequencer, and the minifreak has a fantastic sequencer but is less deep.

@TheUnperson that actually is very helpful. Having spent years with Serum. I love it's sound design capability. Especially making wave tables from scratch. I'm still learning new things about it (AU5 has some great ideas on it) and I think I know stuff even the programmers never thought of! Like using Sytrus to create single wave forms and stacking those in the wave editor! You get some seriously good wave folding and even baked in filtering doing that! So I'm definitely all about sound design. And considering Serum doesn't have a sequencer. I have no problem creating sequences using the LFOs on that. I think Hydra even has a qustizer update so that makes it even easier. So Hydra is definitely ticking more boxes at this point. Thanks!

@@TheUnperson The Minifreak always takes me on a journey

TheUnperson's point stands. Another way of looking at this is that for the Minifreak, there is a plugin version. You could get the Hydrasynth and the MiniFreak plugin, and be happy with that for a long time. And if you really love the MiniFreak, later buy the hardware. But there's no fully equivalent Hydrasynth alternative. Unless you consider something like PhasePlant. So maybe consider Hydrasynth Keys + Minifreak plugin (or Arturia V Collection, on sale), or Minifreak + Phase Plant. Probably cost similar amounts, and with both you are covered for an awful lot of ground. Personally, I'd be tempted to go Hydrasynth Keys + Arturia V Collection, because that polyphonic aftertouch keybed is a truly great controller. And with the ribbon would be awesome with those synths (CS-80 etc...). V Collection is pricey full price, but I think I bought it for around 199eur the last Black Friday sales.

@compucorder64 thanks! Those a good ideas. But I want out of the DAW! And I have an analogue addiction since I got my Moog GM. Infact it's more of a hardware addiction. So I'm definitely loving all the sounds I've heard from the Hydra! I'm sticking to my guns here. Because after that I'm getting a voltage lab 2 OR a solar 42. That will mean living off beans on toast for the next year ( I also need a new computer!) So I'm still undecided on those two highly experimental analogue synths. But at the moment I have made my choice and the choice is Hydrasynth!

My problem with this update is they really MISSED the mark. 8 sample based Lagos but no user samples...and also not available on osc2. WHAT A MISS imagine how much better this could be? wow underwhelming as can be... we get to use a handful of samples they picked...and not many on top of that. MICROFREAK wins with user wavetables and user samples. CMON Arturia! dayum.

I heard that user samples will come in a future update. I hope they also add the possibility for user wavetables at the same time.
