This is one of my absolute favourites!!! Lovely backstory. The of course with a superb descending figure has to be Donald Maclennan’s Tuning Phrase. Another MacLeod powerhouse!

What a cracking good tune eh , and so beautifully played Finlay. Thanks for sharing that . Donald McCloud wrote some seriously fine tunes, aye ,but this one , such a beauty. Cheers man.

That was great to hear the story about the name of the tune. I love the little historical tidbits.

    Great tune well played.
Thanks. I knew Duncan Johnstone. If I remember correctly, he came from 'The Glen' in Castlebay, Barra.
I met Donald a couple of times in the pipe shop in Argyle Street in the early 70's: always a gentleman.

Great to hear the story. I also spent a number of years in the 'back room'...the craic was as good as the tuition... Duncan was a huge inspiration to me in terms of composition and playing 'music'...as opposed to competition...!

Duncan made "Lament for Alan, My Son," the greatest piob ever.

Love that tune! One of my comp hornpipes. Where did you get that crackin' chanter?

Would you mind demonstrating that high A striking on the last line?

That is a brilliant tune! Could you give any guidance on which books to find the sheet music?

Hi, It’s in Scots Guards Volume 2, pages 154 and 155. Pleased to help. It’s a great tune.
