Prepping a Textured Wall for Wallpaper

Some textures on walls and ceiling are pretty aggressive. This can especially be a problem if you want to put wallpaper over the texture. This is a quick video showing a few steps for smoothing out a textured wall or ceiling in preparation for applying wallpaper over it.

This is the texture on my walls and I'm about to try this today. Thanks for the tip on running the blade along the wall first to knock off any pointy tips. I believe the next step before wallpaper is primer, right?

Shouldn't you water down your joint compound so it's a little easier to spread?
Also, you should wear a mask when sanding joint compound, especially above your head!!

Love this, thank you! What would you do if you want to smooth stucco? Our kiva fireplace in the living room is stucco and would love if I could do it myself but feel so intimidated!

Why dont you just sand paper off the texture, then wallpaper

It would take too much time and the dust from sanding is horrible. I have textured wall and I sanded my son's bedroom down. Not to hang wall paper, but to have a smoother wall as I hated the texture on it. It was a big pita to sand and the dust was all over the place. I couldn't even get most of the texture off the walls.
