Holy Cow! {no cows were harmed in the making of this video} You lucked out with that meat slab! What an amazing thing to experiment with! The results look delicious and authentic. I also really loved your soliloquy to sandwich sauces. It was touching in a very Midwestern nostalgia way. Thanks for posting 🙂
It was WILD!!! I had a good idea it was going to come out pretty great but I was still just floored with the results.
@@SauceStache Frist of all, I am not a vegan (and not intend to go that way) but I really do enjoy your videos and hat down to the creativity behind this livestyle! I do really like to broaden my horizon and intrigued to taste couple of your recipes just to compare… here is my question, you always do the tastecheck with Monica at the end of the video, how do you know how a real piece of meat will taste when you are fully vegan? You know that real pastrami recipes are also deleviping, it sure is not the same as it was like 5-10 years ago. Sorry about my English, not my first language :) cheers from Cologne/Germany
@@mediaconnectorLike many vegans/vegetarians, both Mark and Monica grew up eating meat, so they know what it tastes like. It's nice to know that, although you aren't one yourself, you're open to trying animal-free food. And your English is fine! 😊
@@mediaconnector he isn't vegan...
Looks great but a bit labor intensive. Until I get the nerve and the time to do it, where can I purchase VEGAN/Veggie pastrami already prepared? Thanks so much for your postings. I am VERY interested. Peace Jas
...sits in the UK, staring wistfully over the sea wondering when it will arrive here...
Yes!😂
I’ve had 3D printed vegan meat in London that’s probably just as good as this! It was the closest thing to steak I’ve ever had! I’ve also found a vegan steak in supermarkets there that tasted like corned beef. The UK has great vegan meat options!
Have you tried Juicy Marbles products? They look quite similar and can be found in the UK
@@emmahallard1949, Chunk's factory is actually in Israel (that's also where they do their R&D). So maybe they'll export to the UK sooner than later, given that it's actually closer.
You guys have redefine meat steak there while we don't 😅
Thank you for all your creativity! Is is highly appriciated. 😄
Wow thank you!!
I'm not Vegan, but I do meatless meals... this looks absolutely delicious. It really does look like meat. And from your other video on Plant Basics chunks, I just ordered a multi pack and some seasonings. You are very inspirational ! Thanks for the great videos. Even us non-vegans love your content !!!
Me too :)
This looks great, except... what's the point of this video if I can't buy the Chunk Foods products myself?
Apply the brine idea to some other fake meat.
Or buy their product.
My guess is that they're building hype for a B2C release
I think most of the 'restaurant only' products want the cache of being featured by chefs, then expect to launch a consumer product.
They want to overcome resistance in restaurants, and offering them an exclusive product first is one way to get them interested.
And this all goes to making these products more accepted in general.
If I understand the strategy! It's been a while since the few articles I read on this... >_
@@theorthodoxapologeticschan9378 B2C?
I can’t even figure out what restaurants serve it
That’s awesome! From slab to finished product it held up and looked convincingly like meat the entire time!
Thank you!! I knew it was going to be impressive but I still had little doubts about how far it would really go. Even in the end pulling it out and seeing the texture, then how juicy it was. I was just shocked.
Chunk steaks are available at Webstaurant right now
Where can you buy the chunk food slab?
There’s a site called Google that pulls up some possible results.
I'm sooo jealous :) It will take forever until this is available in the EU/Germany. And I miss steak so much.
Green Mountain Steak is pretty good, I think Edeka might have it
@@LJay205 Yeah, it's decent. Even the steak from Aldi is ok. But it's still far away from a good medium rare ribeye...roastbeef.. or tenderloin.
What is the Veef slab made from? Mushroom, banana flours, pea protien? Is it gluten free?
Not gluten free. Chunk is made with water, cultured soy protein (defatted soy flour, soy protein isolate, gluten), coconut oil, natural flavors, beet juice concentrate color, iron, salt, vitamin B12.
@sarzootashoota351 I just looked up soy protein isolate . Which according to the internet search says spI is Gf. Those natural flavors are the only thing I question as a possible hidden gluten mask.
@@hollyferay8131 I am just copying and pasting the ingredients from their website.
I need to know the same. I would not eat it if it's processed food full of a bunch of unhealthy ingredients like most fake meats are. I was also wondering if it's gluten, gmo free or the usual wheat seitan with some fancy flavors to make it taste like meat.I have a lot of questions about this product including the price.
@@hollyferay8131 the soy will be a huge deterrent to meat eaters trying this.We all know how they label "soy boys",eyc- the goal should be to think outside the usual soy and wheat seitan and make products out of ingredients that would make meat and dairy eaters to go plant based.
Doees that first brine/marinade actually do anything? There was no acid so it wouldn't penetrate, and you washed it after soaking it over night which seems like it would just wash it all off? I'd love to see a comparison with and without honestly.
Do you think you will be attempting to recreate your own version of this steak? I looked the company up and it appears they only sell to restaurants
Come on Chunk - start selling in grocery stores!
Wow - that looks delicious!
Ps.
I’m also from Youngstown, Ohio. Born and Raised.
Thank you!!
Love Youngstown! Will always be a home to me!
You’re welcome! I’ll have to give this sauce a try!
🤘🏾
whats in the water that was poured off the wood chips?
This looks great but it’s expensive as heck. On the Webstaurant website it costs $25 a pound if purchased in bulk (case of 24 four ounce steaks). 😳
We need an affiliate link for Chunk
Right now they are only selling to restaurants. Maybe one day consumers will get it.
Oh man, that looks great. Get that over to Scotland... NOW!
Lol 😂 the slab looks like the spell book from hocus pocus
yes. I was wondering what they used to "glue" all those pieces together
What is it made of?
This sounded like and looks like corned beef! Is there much of a difference?
dude...
Ikr what's the point. Just eat real meat.
What is this chunk vegan meet made of? Is there any soy in it?
Chunk is made with water, cultured soy protein (defatted soy flour, soy protein isolate, gluten), coconut oil, natural flavors, beet juice concentrate color, iron, salt, vitamin B12.
😂
@@ericmalitz it's not funny. Soy makes me sick. So I really need to know.
@@erikaorrrealtor4241
You’re specifically allergic? If not, I doubt it makes you sick.
I’m sure Google will pretty easily bring up the ingredients list.
Yes, it's made from naturally fermented soy protein.
Can you buy this already prepared.
Great video!
Just a note - you lose so much weight!
I even play few of your videos from 2-3 years ago to be sure it is you!
Congratulations and keep going! 🥦🥑😊
Thank you so much!!! It's been a lot of work and a long journey!!!
I bet this would work great in a Reuben Sandwich as well!
Where can I buy this vegan meat
Oh, wow, very delicious
Not steak sauce sounds like a product I would buy at Omega Mart.
Why don't you ship your sauce to EU? 😞 I'd like to try it....
I'm thinking gyros 😋
I wonder if you could cook this in a smoker to add that extra meaty kick?
You totally could, I did actually smoke this, not in a dedicated smoker but using a very common smoking technique!
Great video!!! Looks absolutely delicious, where can I get that meat from.
I live in Norway - don't think the sauce or the 'meat' will get here 🤣
Please tell me the veef slab is gluten free😮
Chunk is made with water, cultured soy protein (defatted soy flour, soy protein isolate, gluten), coconut oil, natural flavors, beet juice concentrate color, iron, salt, vitamin B12.
Wow! This is truly mind blowing! Congratulations!
Have you previously made your own pastrami?
I ordered the Not Steak Sauce and it was Amazing! Highly Recommend!!! Also, Cant believe I won the giveaway! Going to be trying them out for 4th of July!
YESSS!!! Thank you so much for ordering and I am soooo stoked for you to try your steaks!!! Enjoy!!!
oh man! pls adopt me into your household
Those are wood chips not chunks. Better to use larger pieces of wood and don’t soak as that just adds steam rather than smoke.
yeah! I used chunk wood charcoal and topped them with the soaked wood chips!
sauce srache home of the slopy joe guaranteed to to make a the sauciest of sauce staches also when is chunk going o sale to the public caus when i saw the thumbnail i thought you had gone back to meat lol ithoght we would get the sandwhich that made you go back to meat

Kind of unaffordable tho :(
I grew up watching Mike Hammer. I started eating pastrami because of him. I want the vegan one.
Good luck with the sauce!
Doesn't pastrami sandwiches come with Swiss cheese and/or sauerkraut?
I'm pretty sure you made a vegan swiss cheese once upon a time on this channel.
Oh. my. deliciousness!
Make a video on how to replicate it please!
😢no overseas love😢
That chunk steak looks great, but I don't trust companies that require me to sign up for spam and subscriptions before they show me their prices.
also they're based in tel aviv ... not a good time to be giving those folks your information
@@dannimays7325why not?
💯 thanks for saving me the trouble.I was going to look into it to see if any unhealthy ingredients, etc- but it doesn't even matter if you need to register.I don't do any websites that don't give prices up front.I don't need some company selling my info for profit all over the internet.I signed up one time, looking for sheds to turn into a small house. The next day and until today, getting zillions of phone calls and emails from every possible unrelated company trying to sell me things.
@SauceStache, @5:15 or so in, you said, "ground coriander or cumin." Those are SO not the same, so which did you mean? I found most of what you put into the marinade just nasty. I hate cinnamon and ginger and what-not in my savoury foods, which explains why I never liked brisket, I just never understood why it tasted so nasty. That's like everybody putting maple syrup in fake bacon recipes. Bacon isn't supposed to be sweet, and maple makes it nasty. I hate maple syrup touching anything savoury on my breakfast plate, especially eggs, when I ate eggs, because it ruined everything. Anyway, this fake meat looks amazing, but I will definitely not be trying this recipe.
I also noticed that and was a bit confused. Coriander and cumin are very different flavors.
I completely agree. As soon as I heard cinnamon in meat, I lost my appetite. Same with almost every dish these days being spicy hot.I can't have anything even remotely spicy so most of these foods are a big no for me.
really? I expected to learn how to make vegan pastrami from scratch, not just learning how to cook it ? i didnt expect that
Why do vegans make food that looks like meat? Why don't ye just eat meat 🤷
Use some common sense. Most vegans never said they don't miss meat. Most will tell you they went vegan because of animal cruelty. So many Vegans who miss meat still want dishes that are close to meat. Why is this so hard for meat eaters to understand???
What in the hell would you have to do to salt to make it non-vegan? Whatever it is, it would drive up costs. I can't imagine there is a premium market for adulterated salt.
TF did I just watch
Good effort, but i prefer the real one.
eating a cow while watching this, 10/10 would recommend
Vegans cope. Man, i like your food because i like vegetarian foods. But a lot of these dont taste or feel similar to the foods you try to replicate. I think your videos would do a lot better(And vegan foods in general) if you stopped trying to emulate meat.
Yeah try this and come back and tell me how this doesn’t taste exactly like meat.
Look it up, find a restaurant that sells this and prove me wrong
Also I don’t care what you think would do better.
I’m doing what I want and what I enjoy. 😉
Bogus comment; apparently you haven’t tried much of what he does. Or you’re just playing ignorant.
I agree. There are millions of the most delicious plant based foods around the world instead of just keep adding these processed junk food fake meat, full of soy and wheat most meat eaters would avoid.I thought the whole point was to coax meat eaters to switch to no longer be involved in the horrid animal torture. Something changed big time along the way. It's no longer what it started to be. Meanwhile, look up foods from India,Africa, etc, that are just delicious, easy to make, healthy plant based.
Chunk steak: water, cultured soy protein (defatted soy flour, soy protein isolate, gluten), coconut oil, natural flavors, beet juice concentrate color, iron, salt, vitamin B12.
Such ersatz emptiness may be appropriate during worwa3 but, until the shtf, I'll stick with rodding flesch, thanks. Atheists.🙄
Oh my goodness! Among the things I miss is pastrami ❤ I want to come to your house for lunch 😂 I’m so envious… I am SO impressed with how much plant based is coming on, I have some seitan in the fridge I started making 2 days ago, it was meant to be beefy looking but it’s more chik-n-y, you are a true inspiration, thank you.
It's just crazy how far plant based meats have come, this is even more impressive than I could have imagined, really was.
Thank you so much and good luck with your beefy seitan! ( sometimes its ok to just pivot, ive been surprised with textures when I was going for something else)
@@SauceStache thanks ☺️ Im going to try to get hold of some already done gluten for my future experiments 😂 I hate mess and WTF method is too messy for me! It seems that’s the way people are going now, just need to source it here in England 🏴

Hey Mark, is there a way to enter this contest without needing to create an Instagram account? I've deliberately avoided making one because I do not want to support Meta, and non members are blocked from seeing your page. But I definitely DO want to support you. (love your cookbook btw!)
I guess that is a no.
and for those of us thrown out from Facebook and Instagram because we don't follow their socialist agenda.
Hey Sauce Stache, have you ever done an experiment/taste test using beefsteak mushroom? It looks ridiculously like red meat and even bleeds. 😮
You should of stated in title ,you cant buy it, I wouldn't have wasted time watching! Thumbs Down!
you can buy it, in bulk, and I assume you have to be wealthy to do so. I steer clear of such manipulative companies. Seems they are teasing the public by offering it in limited restaurants until it phases out. Just like impossible burger did. When it finally came out to the public in supermarkets, it was and still is, super expensive, unhealthy, processed junk food.
As a vegetarian, you asking Monica her opinion always feels like you have her at gunpoint 😂
You need to show off that beautiful dog.

Glad you enjoyed it
Hope you will make your own Version. I hate it to see food i could never get here in europe
Any chance you could try this with Juicy Marbles? At least we can all buy that.
Why use curing salt? It's used to make meat to not spoil and I don't think it's needed for vegan meat. There's no decaying carcass here. Curing salt contains sodium nitrite which when heated creates carcinogenic nitrosamines. Which is probably one reason why processed meat is so bad for you, worse than processed vegan meat which usually never contains sodium nitrite.
It's a detectable flavour element, in that the flavour of cured meats comes in part from the chemical interactions of the curing salt. So if you're replicating the flavour, you probably have to use the same salts. The very lack of nitrites is one reason why vegan substitutions are often deficient in their simulation of the original article. Good replication of meat lowers the bar to entry to the vegan lifestyle for former carnivores, which it ideal, since the objective is getting people off of meat. Even a nitrosamine rich vegan diet is omitting meat, and once someone is eating vegan and has ways of moderating the withdrawl from meat, they can then work on expanding their diet.
This is what confuses me about some of Stache's videos. At times he treats meat analogues and substitutes as if they're the real thing. Part of the reason curing salt is used in cooking is to impart a reddish color when the nitrite interacts with the myoglobin in the meat... And unless I'm wildly mistaken, there shouldn't be any in that slab.
He's probably just following a typical recipe to see how well it can be an easy substitute for everyone
@@josephpotter5766 is it worth getting cancer over? plus all the salt and other chemicals in vegan meat, marinades, etc, you may as well just go back to eating meat.
YUMMMMMMM. I'm so jealous lol
You are amazing !! Keep it up:)
just like in the wine and champagne business you should get sued for calling it 'meat'
hahahaha its wild how mad people get over the dumbest things.
MEAT is defined as a few things. In the English language words can have multiple usages and different definitions. Are you telling me you are an adult and have never in your life heard someone calling something the "meat" of something? Like the "meat" of a grapefruit?
If I was SELLING this, which I'm not and I was calling this pastrami on the label without any other defining wording then use it would be mislabeling and I agree with you, but its always super common to see this labeled as vegan meat, plant based meat, or soy or gluten meat, if you are too stupid to understand what that means thats your fault not mine.
Grow up. You should get sued for being so easily triggered by a video
I just want to be able to buy the chunk foods meat 😭whyyyy must you tempt us like this
