  • I couldn't go past Birmingham without taking a ride on Air Rail!
Air Rail is one of my favorite transit trains. It might only go half a mile at 20 mph but there is something about it which is so awesome.
It is pulled by cables, so it is basicly a horizontal lift.
Sadly, Air Rail has stopped playing the Air Rail song when it moves.

If you ever come to Italy, be sure to visit the Minimetro in Perugia, since you like that sort of "trains"! It is similar to the Air Rail, but has lots of very small carriages and they are detachable from the rope (the rope runs at constant speed) and has also 7 stations and an underground section. :-)

Why are those trains cable driven rather than have the motor mounted directly on the train.

And these replaced one of the first MagLev trains in public use.

Built on the site of the world's first commercial Maglev system (which lasted from 1984-1995), the concrete support structure was also used by the maglev system.
The maglev was not any quicker and had smaller carriages. It can be seen in this video:

This is wild guess but I think the trains are made by Intamin. If you don't know then Intamin is a manufacturer mainly known for designing Roller Coasters and Monorails.

Very unusual! Its like a maglev train, but pulled on cables! If you dont write in the description that its pulled on cables, then i might never guess that its not a real maglev, and only looks like a maglev!

+133travelguyIndo 8 Also in mainland Europe they beep (some of them just produce a ~500Hz tone for 3 seconds before they close the doors)

Who drives a lift? COMPUTERS! CABLES!
Many trains in the world are starting to have automatic mode.

Hi +Beno, I was watching this Urbex video ( which I know you enjoy doing yourself ) and I noticed some old lifts and lift motors you may find interesting. Check it out.
