Lots of respect for the lad on the big red. When so many opt for the magic button, the bloke still kick starts a single pot 4 stroke. And that aint no easy task on the trail :) Suppose his gear pedal was loose quickly wearing out the shaft and the level itself. These all should be areas to check before a long ride... yet there's always that gremlin that escapes you and bites you back in the rear end in the trail :) Great stuff boys.
Pro tip, regarding the gear lever. Aluminum can. Cut the can into strips and build up the spindle. This will get you out of trouble but DO NOT rely on it lasting too long. Something to keep in the back of your mind for next time.
A tip for cement water crossings on a bike, always follow the car tracks, the slime will be worn away there so you won't slip over.
