Wow, so great to see the underlying concepts of the hand actions explained rather than just static "magic shapes". I love the way the Mook Jong is secretly an automatic self-correcting tool. They never tell you that. The people who created Wing Chun were ingenious.

I have seen many instructors, teachers and sifus (including my sifu) say that these 3 hands are the core of wing chun ... But it was never explained to me very well ... By reading, sparring and practicing a lot I found and/or came up with most of what this video speaks of, even the definitions of diferent planes rather than lines, bong is a transition and never stays, etc ... Most of this is what I have been teaching to my few 3 students/friends that want to learn (even though I have not and never will consider myself a sifu) ... When I saw this video I related to everything and I want to congratulate you for your great lesson, deep inside analysis of the principles and intention of the techniques beyond the shape of the funy hand that everyone focuses on instead of keeping the elbow down, forearm, piercing intention and purpose behind the technique ... If I was living closer I would defintly sign up to train with you ... Regarding the 3 hands, I kind of came across a "rock - paper - scissors" ratio between them ... The forward central inside and under energy of a "tan sao" is controlled by a forward over outside energy of a "fok sao" ... the "tan sao" can change into the "bong sao" and with its outside elbow you can overcome the "fok sao", but as the "bong sao" does not stay, the motion of returning the elbow down and rotating the forearm makes the "bong sao" transition to an attack over the "fok sao", and in response to this attack around, the "fok sao" will change into a "tan sao" to counter and the initial roles are inverted, now original "tan sao" is in a "fok sao" and a "fok sao" is in a "tan sao" ... What are your toughts about this "rock - paper - scissors" relation that crossed my mind?

cachutas Rock Paper Scissors is a cool analogy. I like it. Thanks for your appreciation 🙏

Good mention of the tan, fook, and bong as piercing actions, there is a forward ‘pop/snap’, instant force.
On Rackemann wing chun channel he mentioned that Lo Man Kam said that the wing chun techniques are verbs, they are motion, not static holds. There is much more power and disruption force by that little snap or pop versus just sitting there absorbing the impact.
Also there is a slight spiraling of force as you do various techniques.

Matthias633 Thanks and I couldn’t agree more that Wing Chun techniques are fluid actions, not static techniques.

Do you mean that you attack the attack with on / off energy?

Master David Leung in Oregon has taught this for decades about the 3 techniques of WC that differentiate it from other Kung Fu styles, as well as various ways to use each, just as you demonstrate. Good stuff.

I have been a fan of martial arts since I was 10. I do not live in an area where wing chung is offered. You are a sifu master. Thank you for making these videos sir. I really do appreciate it

Training these techniques helps in real combat situation. I'm talking from experience, cos alot of people say that wing Chung is no good, but they can't even throw a straight punch, let alone peform a bong Sao. I don't care what anyone says if you cut sick on a someones centrline the pain alone will shock them how much power and accurate you can be. It can be devastating to someones vital organs.

Am I right in thinking the bong is better for blocking with the elbow or driving the the centre chest close up although it is optional to place other moves.

Bong can transition you either to the inside or outside line

Question: on-line I see a lot of Tan Sau applications on the outside of the opponents arm. In my practice, this seems to work more effectively. Is that an incorrect application or just an acceptable variation?

  • @MrNpalapas

i dont really mind if it was a tan or a fook as long as i knew the principle and form and there comes out the technique.

Angel East Love it! Wing Chun is it’s concepts, not it’s techniques. When you learn a concept, you know the essence.
