I’m about to hit 30,000 miles on my model 3 SR+, no issues to report so far. Nice video Dave!

I found your channel for the Lightning content, but the random ham radio shots that pop-up is really cool. 73, KI6NAZ.

Nice video Dave. Does your F-150 Lightning precondition the battery while driving to a DC fast charger?

I took my lightning in to see if my dealer could push the newest updates to me I've been hearing about, but Ford hadn't given them access to them yet so that was unsuccessful but they did perform the wiper motor recall for me even though that hadn't become an issue with my lightning yet. Ford needs to give the dealers access to the new updates immediately as they first come out. Then instead of waiting for OTA updates you could visit your dealer to get them pushed to your vehicle.

Thank you for another great video. I sure enjoy your videos. The lightning looks like a good truck but I think I will stick with my model Y. Please keep the great videos coming. I learn more from your videos than I do from others. They have everyday information, way more than others I watch. Thanks again.

I think the military aircraft you saw was an RC-135S Cobra Ball reconnaissance aircraft based out of Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska. Lots of information in the RC-135 Wikipedia page on all of the variations.

Dave, There is a 50kw EvGo behind Jax outdoor gear as you are leaving Ft Collins on 287, top up there for an additional 20 miles.... I've charged my Lightning there before

Very good real world indicator of what's going to happen when you drive an EV in extreme cold. If you choose to believe the press, Ford seems to be a bit more susceptible to the effects of cold weather than most others. Would you agree with that, Dave?

It is a recall on windshield wiper motor for ford lightning. They replaced it right before I received my lightning.

Since you have a garage full of EV's maybe you could compare cabin noise. I believe there is an instrument that measures noise level (decibels). It would be cool to have a chart comparing EV cabin noise levels in a numeric format. Maybe it would help Tesla get their cabin sound levels lower. Safe travels. Stay warm.

I can't imagine how much energy those huge wind generators have to produce before they can actually start making a profit from them. And even after they are paid for, the maintenance must really be expensive.

Are you showing that F150 will barely go 100 miles on an 80% charge in cold weather. Terrible.

    • @mowcowbell

At 1.6kw per mile efficiency, pretty sad.

    • @rusticroads
      @rusticroads ปีที่แล้ว +4

Huh? At 18:09, he reached 80% charge, and had 97 miles to his next stop, and was estimated to arrive at 40%. Extrapolating that, he could go 200 miles on an 80% charge (based on the recent driving conditions and the drivers behavior). This is borne out at 19:06, when it shows 199 miles of range.

@@mowcowbell Not really when you figure it is built on a standard F150, not some tiny, ugly, tiny tired thing. After years of seeing EVs looking like a nightmare, Ford built something that actually looks American. Also, they are just getting started. Think about the 1st VCRs. $1200 and too big to put on a TV stand. the last ones were barely bigger than the tape, could be held in 1 hand and cost $29.95. EVs are just getting started, it only gets better from here.

@@mowcowbell It is a pickup truck and regardless of the type of powertrain, efficiency is never their selling point.

Going 75mph into a 25mph headwind at 20 degree ambient with the heat on (in the video he said they had just turned it off) the truck was showing 1.2 mi/kWh. That’s 125 miles at 80%. Not great, but better than 100 for sure. With the heat off and using the heated seats and steering wheel from the trip 1 earlier in the video, they were getting 1.6 mi/kWh. That’s 167 miles on 80%. If they can manage 1.6 mi/kWh then 210 from 100% should be possible.

That comment is like saying , glad I didnt buy the first model T by Ford. 1908 Model T cost $850. The average U.S. worker 1908 made 22 cents/h and had an annual income of $200-$400 while a Model T cost $850, or 2-4 times annual gross income Now tell me again that a BEV is expensive! In the course of 15 years the price of the Ford Model T went from $850 to $260 . Same thing will happen to Electric Vehicles. Its all about mass production and competition. Give the electric car time to ramp up.

@Dan Barksey I came from a 2017 F150 to the lightning. It does everything my old truck did just better in almost every aspect. Including towing.
