Makes perfect sense it’s a spindle bearing, I’m as guilty as the next builder as they almost always look good and get ignored, or the bearings are gone or rusted tight and that’s the only reason I notice them. I’ve got a small box here of 10-bolt D44 and D60 spindle bearings I have ignored over the past 20+ years.
In 2006 I clocked a Dodge 208 onto a TH400 for what became the Pushmobile build, (it still exists but with an Atlas 4-speed now), there were only three or four folks that machined clocking rings then and most said it wouldn’t work, that I would loose too much spline engagement. So I welded up, redrilled and plasma cut a very pricey stock GM adapter (the 32spline GM input gear drops right into the Dodge208) it worked perfectly. In 2014 I retired from teaching welding (20+ years), bought the Atlas 4-speed as a retirement present and sold that D208/TH400 combo for some serious change to one of our local GM wheeling folks because he dislikes slip yoke transfer cases as much as I do.
I realize this is long, in 2015 I was in NC with Pushmobile at Badin Lakes, Uwharrie for the Carolina Full Size Jeep annual invasion, wish I would have known about you folks, it was a long trip from Tucson, AZ but I met some great folks there, saw some pretty country and wheeled some decent trails, an extra day to meet some like minded fab folks would have been fun.

We mud raced for 15 years and I ran Dodge 208s behind turbo 400s. So I have done the 32 spline input swap a few times myself. Thanks for watching.

LMAO... I basically live in Lizard Lick but they don't have a post office so I have a Zebulon NC addy. Got a G20 just Saturday (1/13/2024). Shorty with the 4.3 and hope to eventually bring it to your guys for the swap. I will bring Lizard Lick T-Shirts for all!!

That noise sounds like an axle spindle bearing. Been years since I had a 10 bolt apart, do they have a bushing or roller bearing in the spindle? Nice find on the T/C mounting bolts! I wouldn't have thought the gear hub inside would hit the bolts either!

I just talked to the mechanic he took it to. You hit the nail on the head, that’s what it is. I have all the parts here to fix it. Shipping them to him and he is gonna take care of it for us. Not a big deal to fix, just sucks that it happened. Thanks for watching and commenting.

@@theswimshop4x4 glad to hear that was it, simple job to do! I've heard this noise a few times over my 30+ years as a mechanic 😁
