@@E_L1000 The simple answer to that question is ‘yes’ . There are many examples where a coal fired power plant has been modified to burn other ‘fuel’s’ . But this generally doesn’t work well because a boiler works best on the fuel it was designed for. However having said that, Drax power station (also in the UK) has converted 4 of its 6 coal fired boilers to burn wood pellets. This is the only former coal fired power plant still operating in the UK. But it is only profitable due to the subsidies that it receives.
@@philburton2901 Thanks! What about burning normal household waste in cogeneration plants? Is that common in the UK? Is it feasible to convert from burning coal to burning waste/garbage?
@ As far as I know, co-gen plants are not common in the UK. Burning domestic waste in a conventional coal fired power plant would not be possible. Most coal plants use mills to grind the coal into a very fine powder which is then blown into the boiler. This fine powder burns inside the furnace like a gas. This enables the boiler to produce very high pressure and temperature steam. We do have quite a few new power plants in the UK which burn household waste. They have become commonplace near many towns and cities. This is mainly due to increasing taxes on sending waste to landfill, rather than for their electricity output. They have been specifically designed for burning waste rather than any other fuel.

Everyone doomposting in the comments doesnt realise the uk has 35 gw of capacity of gas then with everything else we'll be perfectly fine and wont suddenly collapse just because we arent burning coal.
These plants are coal, which is significantly more polluting than any other energy source. The human deaths/MW are higher than any other common energy source. Coal releases more radioactive substances to the air than nuclear. The UK grid can now do without coal, so it makes sense to stop using it.
The UK is moving away from coal energy production because it kills more people/MW than any other source. The UK is generating more wind, solar, and gas these days so doesn't need coal.
Why is British industry, and power generation being systematically destroyed? Why is industrial production going overseas? Why is UK Power so damn expensive?? NOT GOOD!!
Generation must meet demand. If a plant goes offline then something has to match its output. These plants have been offline for a while, so clearly existing generation is adequate.
We don't drive around in 50 year old cars. Every power-plant has a design life, and the longer you use them the more goes wrong and breaks down. Did the brits not learn anything from Germany and destroying power plants?
Germany has nearly 1/4 production from coal, what are you on about?
@@RyanJ_ They shut down all of their nuclear power plants and switched to Russian gas. Then the war happened, pipelines blew up on top of gas being quadrupled in price and now Germany is in deficit with its power production.
@@thesayxx This plant isn't nuclear
@@RyanJ_ I know its not nuclear. Do you not see the correlation between whats happening in this video and what happened in Germany?
@@thesayxx No, the energy replacing this is going to be largely domestic wind, solar, and natural gas. Supply must meet demand, and UK generation has clearly allowed for the loss of these coal plants.
How much radiation is there?
And now they are burning rubbish to make steam
Така сама робота доведеться робити із зруйнованими електростанціями в Україні які постраждали від російкив обстрілів ракетами🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬. Потрібно буде розбирати завали і будувати по новому
Does Brown and Mason keep all the recycled materials?
Brown & mason should not post their videos as TH-cam kids. It diminishes their actual audience.
Fred Dibnah was better tho. I think we can all agree on that
Why are these being destroyed are the coal or nuclear. Because of these are nuclear this is dumb.
such poor audio matching. peace
Absolute joke we are going to have no power stations left talking about going electric without these powerstations we are fucked
yep make you right...
@@asamitchell7948 some might even think it’s sabotage to destroy cheap base load power, which is the backbone for economic prosperity. At least there is the green dystopia and expensive energy rationing to look forward to.
Generation has to meet demand, so clearly we have enough generation. These power stations have been offline for a while, and the lights are still on.
@RyanJ_ the way they are decommissioning power plants and expect us to switch to heat pumps and electric cars the grid cannot handle the load as there is not enough generation to meet that demand.
It's never shown in the news but we are screwed if the government doesn't build a few more nuclear powerstations only way to meet demand.
Really when a small storm appears the green energy is wrecked what then replaces that nothing it’s a blackout no backup plan
sherrie i borrowed your bronco for the day ok, claire its cool anytime
Leave it to the British to make a process harder than it needs to be😂
Those mini skid steers need to be tracked.
Great point 👍😂and so spot on 👍
Maybe look again at the confines in which they are working. Then consider the wear and tear and the exceptionally aggressive environment in which they are working. Then think about the cost of tracks versus solid wheels. And then, for good measure, understand that some people know exactly what they are doing and actually do it = ) Lets not forget the the Brits have been doing "industry" since before pretty much everybody ever... = )
@@JohnSmith-ud9exbut he's commenting on TH-cam so he must be an expert!
Why has this been fastened up when you talk etc
Waiting for the vid where you watch this in the comfort of the com centre, where remote op’s control the AI humanoid robots cutting it down. matter of time……
will be waiting a while
Turn up the damned sound!!!!
What a total waste of hard earned taxpayers money.
Can't see any electric powered plant on there, only diesel powered!
What a waste of a perfectly good energy source.
Coal kills more people than any other common energy source, so probably a good idea to use the other ones before coal
I hate audiotrack, first of all I want to see an English video with English sounds 2. Why tf is he synchronised by a woman
The sad thing there is one getting built in tilbury and there taking down till one
what i tell u these scripts dont matter who they say to is its weres it from that matters, half these names are dead, incarcerated anyways.lmfao. vrooooom
As impressive as the demolition is, it's not something that should be happening, absolute stupidity 🤬🤬🤬
