This documentary is the best I have seen on the 4-Day Inca Trail. And I have seen over a dozen videos! Great work. Thanks! It is very informative in many ways.
I just finished the Inca trail. I am 53 and in good shape. I trained hard to get in even better shape to walk the trail. Day one isn't too bad compared to the rest of the trail. Day two is very hard. Day three and four aren't much easier. Bring a good pair of walking sticks. Its like climbing a crooked stone step ladder for six hours a day. More if you choose to do the trail in three days which I strongly advise against. Who wants to start their day at 2 am. Why rush? Please follow the advice of our guide who told us that we would be doing everything, "Slow, slow." Be in the moment every step of the way. Look around every few steps. Absorb the details. Smile at yourself. You are there. Be there. Think of nothing but what you are viewing. Its a very special place.
BlueShaman'sFriend I'm turning 62 just before we leave for Brazil, walking the inca trail early September, training on hills and stairs, we have poles, I walked the 4 day Milford track in NZ, my only problem was a blister between my little toe and the next one, so I have socks with individual toes, and fleece which is wrapped around and stops blisters,so hopefully we'll be OK. Just need the weather to be kind
Someone told me going barefoot at home helps as it builds up the pads on the bottom of your feet. I would agree. You will fine. Remember, lots a lots of people complete this trek. Our guide said the only thing that can stop a trip is torrential rain. He said then it becomes to dangerous. You are going to have the time of your life!
this is great I was there in 1981 and a lot has changed, they have worked hard on the trail and you guys have put together the best video I have ever seen on this region love it love it well done
Did this trek a few years ago all four of us in our 70s , we were called the Scottish Grannies by fellow walkers. Had an amazing trek with wonderful guide Heidi and great support guys caring the heavy gear tents etc. Love this video Happy Memories
+Rose Atwell Thanks for your comment, the music tracks are as follows: Yarihuanqui: Musica Andina B.J.Thomas: Raindrops keep falling on my head Kalamarka: Wawitay Wara wara: Musica Instrumental Andina Gheorghe Zamfir: The Lonely Shepherd Inti Illimani: Dolencias Wayanay: Virgines del Sol Pan Pipe Spirits: Don't Cry For Me Argentina Altiplano: El Valle de La Luna Incantation: On Earth As It Is In Heaven
Thanks for uploading this wonderful video of the inca trail. Great views, I especially liked the thanks the tourist gave to the porters, they really do a great job, and I think they don't get paid as much, they are poor people from that area, they are really the heroes of this treks.
That's very true, Meli s. The porters work hard and do a fabulous job making their clients' trek special. It is nice to acknowledge the fact and give them a good tip.
Nicely done Martin Critchley! I love visiting Peru but have yet to do the hike. Planning to in the near future. Thank you for sharing this adventure so that someone else can plan theirs!
I share my enthusiasm with the owner of this video for I myself experienced the challenging 4 day trek and surpassing the Dead Woman's Pass to Machu Picchu. The experienced was amazingly beautiful, life changing, gaining new friends from all over the world w/c you shares passion for the love of nature ,learning what is left behind by those who came us first and stepping in their footsteps .I highly recommend to whoever didnt experience this yet ,don't let it pass ,you will be amaze what this trek to offer ,not only the country is beautiful but also the Peruvian people specially the people in the Andes mountain or Sacred Valley and the people who lives in the Peruvian Amazon.
Would u give some numbers on the cost of this 4 day adventure? I want to travel and hit it too but I'm thinking it could cost more then I can afford...
+Cofra Vega idk if your still curius or not but the group im doing it with costs 1900 but theres a few extra things involved. ive seen groups as low as 800
+Cofra Vega depends on what you want ,if you just like to hike Machu Picchu the cost is lesser than a thousand or less but if you combine a trip to the amazon and galapagos then it's much more money.I travelled solo and when I booked, I asked for 1person accommodation for the hotel and tent accommodation to Machu Picchu so I payed a little extra.
The secret of the incas 1954 movie introduced me to this mystical wonder of the world. I may never go there with respiratory and cerebral palsy but this video is just wonderful thankyou.
A truly incredible snapshot of a insight into companionship, from strangers to friends, its heartwarming. My son and partner are out there right now and hope they both experience what seems to be a fantastic experience of a lifetime.
What a journey! And and what a great piece of film work. It's great to see you getting the recognition you deserve. I take it that your fellow traveler was crying when she spoke to the porters because of her admiration for those people? Well done! Paul
Hi Paul, Thanks for your kind comments. We're just glad that we managed to get enough film together to make a record of this amazing trek so fellow travellers can see what lies ahead of them. The Argentinian lady in the film made a very emotional speech as she presented the tips we had collected to our Quechua porters on the final night. She found the second day especially hard and nearly gave up. One woman had already dropped out of our group. However, she proved to be a real trooper and carried on to finish the trek. Lovely memories.
What an incredible video. I will be traveling and hiking to Machu Picchu as a gift to myself once I graduate in 2 years. I got emotional at the first site of Machu Picchu thank you for sharing I felt as if I was tagging along (:
Go for it, Linda! It's great to look forward to something and dawn over Machu Picchu is a a sight I will never ever forget. I wish you a great trip on the Inca Trail and many happy memories :-)
Thank for your reply. I love to learn about the places where concerning the old history, as the high peaks pureearth is my beautiful world, (like Tibet, etc.)..Thanks again for video.
martin critchley Our daughter just started her Inca Trail climb today and having watched you video, felt we were right there along with her ( in the comfort of my den office, of course)! Looks like a great time and thank you for posting your journey!
Great video! When I was in Peru during 1998, I did not get to walk the Inca Trail. However, since watching your very well done video....it's definitely on my list of treks to do! Thank you again! Katherine
+Katherine Harris Thank you for your kind comments. We would have liked the video to be less wobbly in places but when you are in a group then it is difficult to stop and set-up a tripod. The Inca Trail is well worth doing and we didn't find it too hard; especially if you are used to all day or multi day walks.
Incredible video, gives a real feel for how tough the trek really is - hitting my 50th this year, this trip has long been a dream, feel I need to get myself a lot fitter before I set about booking but 2016 has to be the year, can't wait any longer. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for sharing your experience. That hike looks so incredible to experience. I'm not into hiking but maybe someday I can experience something like that. I'm planning a trip to see Machu Picchu but I'm not planning on hiking it. I found your video and wanted to see what it looks like before I see it with my own eyes. Thank you again for sharing, very scenic and beautiful there!
OMG...what a venture to experience..wish I was there....Mother Nature in the raw touch by modern civilization and hope that it will remain so for centuries to come...Three cheers to these brave men and women for this spectacular video...
My son has just landed in Peru and is on his way to Machu Picchu. Thanks so much for this video - gives me an insight into what he will experience. Wow!!!!! (a little jealous)
Thanks for your comments. Glad that you found this useful as before we went we couldn't really find a video which encapsulated the whole route. Good luck with your trek in May.
Truly phenomenal. I was in Cuzco and Machu Picchu just two weeks ago. I didn't do the trek but will return to do it. Congratulations on taking the leap and setting off on what appears a life changing trip.
Wow, what an amazing video. Wife and I did the trek in November 2012 and it was a roller coaster--the second day I asked myself I paid for this? But it was an amazing experience when it was done and I am glad we did it. Your video brought back lots of memories--you had great weather, it was cloudy and wet (slippery too) when we went. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks a million for this wonderful video! I hiked the trail in 1987 when i was young and you did not need a guide . U rented a tent and bought food in Cuzco main square. The second day to the highest pass was challenging but with coca leaves it helped. Hiked to Wayna picchu but remember how steep and dangerous was the hike . But the icing on the cake was to arrive at MP early morning before anyone and having the place to yourself sort of! I guess a lot of people hike it these days Great video , brought a tear to my eye for wonderful memories.
Thank you for posting this. I've been meaning to make this trek and a couple summits in the area. Really helps push me to get this higher up on my adventure list.
This is nice video of the 4 days Inca Trail trek to Machu Picchu. I had the privilege of doing it twice thus far, and plan on doing it once again in a couple of years, when my kids are old enough to join me. Paying for a service that will get you tickets, meals, tents and a guide is well worth it. We even had a couple of happy hours upon arrivals to our camp sites on the second and third days.
Really good video, and very useful thanks. We're doing the trail in August and although we feel pretty ready for it, it's great to be able to prepare ourselves just that little bit better, having now also tagged along for the ride with you both on this film! Some nagging questions about weather, camps and kit now answered! My next strategic decision will be about how to manage battery life on camera and GoPro! I'll give your blog a read in my tea break tomorrow.
Thanks, Christian, we're glad you found the video useful. We took along a solar powered battery charger that was attached to one of our day packs which ensured that we had enough juice in the cameras to take shots of Machu Picchu! Best of luck with the trek. Enjoy!
Excellent video! Wonderful visual guide to hiking the entire Inca Trail and useful for those of us, like myself, who are training and preparing to hike it in May-June 2023. Thank you!
Great video, really makes me want to go there and do that again :) Though Day#3 music really gives you the impression of the slog it is, personally #3 was harder than #2 but that's imho.
I can't wait for 2015 because my cousin and I are going to Peru. We are trying to see the seven wonders of the world. We already went to Cancun and Brazil and in 2016 we are going to China, Rome and I don't know the other places and we are staying there for a month and t machu pichu a week. I'm 12
Hi Martin, we are going to the same place, for the same trek in 3 months. Your clip is just amazing.. we visited your blog and it is so good inspiration for us, a couple who will travel for 6 months.. :-)
Awesome! Thanks very much for sharing! :) Greetings from Ireland! :) I love flying my Q500 for some aerial footage! :) Thumbs up from me! Well done! :)
+Drone Girl thanks for you comment. We have been following your youtube channel and have just brought a phantom 3; but I need to get a lot of practice flying in Ireland before we take overseas on our treks. Martin
thank you so much for sharing this.... this middle age woman is headed to the trail in 6 weeks and i am both excited and petrified.... hard to find equivalent mountains to climb in virginia when you live at sea level!
We live in Ireland where our highest mountain is just over 1,000m but you can still get a really good work here to build up your stamina. We did lots of traverses across our mountains which gives you plenty of ascent and descent. Few of our hills have tracks so the terrain is pretty rough. We did fine and we're middle aged!! Have a simply lovely time Lisa. Best of luck :-)
martin critchley thanks for the encouragement! Heading out to hike in the blue ridge mountains for the next three weekends so hopefully that will help!! did you have any altitude sickness?
Lisa Jones No, Lisa, but we made sure that we spent a few days in Cuzco beforehand. That's no hardship, as it's a lovely city with lots of interesting things to see and do :-)
This is amazing. It's like watching a sequel to Lord Of The Rings. This is different from all the other trek roads. Here you get rewarded with an amazing view of the Inca City. I feel sad to say that I only know it from Google Earth.
Great to see this - I hiked this trail in 2001 at 50 easily the oldest in my group. This video really recaptured the experience. I remember the different sections really well - most especially the extraordinary effort of the approach to the first pass on day two! The only disappointment for us was that, when we arrived at the Sun Gate after all that effort, Machu Picchu was completely enshrouded in mist. Otherwise what a fantastic experience.
Glad you liked our film and congratulations on doing the trek. Neither of us were spring chickens doing this but we were way faster than those half our age!
rcwward what month did you go? I know it’s impossible to predict when the fog / mist will be present, but I’m assuming it’s less likely in the dry season. I’m trying to plan my trip around that
@@donesy125 We did this in April, see our blog for more details purplepeakadventures.com/blog/2013/8/the-lost-city-of-the-incas-hiking-the-inca-trail-to-machu-picchu
Another great video! We did this hike in May of 2010 and your video brought back some fond memories. If you ever decide to hike the West Coast Trail or the Nootka Trail, look me up and I'll give you some pointers. I have hiked each a number of times..
Thanks for your kind comments. We've been to SW Canada a few times and even camped but have not done any trekking Maybe someday we will get back there as we loved the landscapes. Martin and Sharron
Wooo well done!! I did the Inca Trail too. Was so hard. Your video is awesome! I have a a bit of a vlog on my TH-cam from our trip, I would love your advice about editing it as I’m pretty new to this. Good luck with your future travels. 😊
Hi Martin great video, I am going to do the Salkantay to Machu Picchu trek in September . Planning on bringing a 35L backpack for the trek do you think this will be sufficient?.
+simon campbell . Simon, glad that you liked our video. I would say that 35 litre pack is fine as you only have to carry personal gear such as waterproofs etc and maybe packed lunch on some days. The porters carry the rest. Hope you have a good trip and don't forget your walking poles (especially for the descents). Martin
Fantastic video. I am going to Peru next year, but will be trekking to Choquequirao and from there to Machu Pichu. I was absolutely blown away when the woman from Argentina thanked the crew and told of her admiration for the experience. I heard these mountains, views and people have that effect on people. Which tour did you guys use? How did you handle the altitude? Again, awesome video. Amazing experience!
Thanks, plodej. If you want to know more about our experience on the trek, read the our blog: kernowclimber.blogspot.ie/ No problems at all with the altitude as we spent some time in Cusco beforehand to aid acclimatisation. We booked through Peruvian company, Intense Peru, who used a local company, Camping Tours, for the trek. All was tip top, and we were very happy with both companies' service. Enjoy your trip to Peru next year :-)
Hermoso video Martin. Que alegría que hayan disfrutado la experiencia de pisar suelo Inca. Espero que mis compatriotas los hayan tratado bien, porque como sabes, en todo lugar hay gente buena y gente mala. Les envío un abrazo desde Perú. (Beautiful video Martin. What joy you have enjoyed the experience of stepping Inca ground. I hope my countrymen have been good, because as you know, everywhere there are good people and bad people. I send a hug from Peru.)
We didn't have time to explore the city and also climb Huayna Picchu. Plus, you have to book this climb months in advance as the numbers allowed to ascend the mountain each day are limited.
What a fantastic adventure! What would those who lived there 500 years ago have thought of these strange looking hikers from the future? And Cortez? Fascinating history and engineering of this secluded old city. A must see for any world traveler.
Fantastic video and definitely one for the bucket list . I was halfway into the video before releasing I'd seen your videos somewhere before, then it dawned on me. I had asked you awhile back about what equipment you'd used on your Mourne Mountains video. I actually put your Mourne Mountain video on the other night for my 5 year old as he loves hiking, then tonight I seen this video in my recommendations. I'm looking forward now to going through and watching more of your travels. So far your videos have been excellent viewing . It's also got to be great for both of yous looking back on those fantastic memories.
Thanks for your comments and glad you enjoyed some of our videos. Most of our videos are filmed in 4k with Panasonic cameras but the Inca Trail video was done a few years ago with lower resolution cameras. Martin and Sharron
Nice video. I think I have 10 years on you and suspect the Gringo Killer would knock my knees out, so may have to do the trip by train. I wonder whether the path ran close to sheer drops ?
Chiny91, the only section that ran close to a precipitous edge was the final section on the last day en route to the Sun Gate. This section of the track has experienced some bad landslides, it's narrow and isn't in the best of conditions. Several trekkers have died by slipping off the track as they tried to push past other people in their rush to get to the Sun Gate. We were cautioned about this by our guide. For what it's worth, I suffer from Morton's nueroma in both feet which causes excruciating pain. I took anti-inflammatories and painkillers and tried to move as quickly and lightly as possible down over the steep sections to spare my feet. It worked. I did the trek no problem.
Hey Martin! Thanks for the video. Can you share how you booked this trek? Ie/ through Trip Advisor? Or just showed up and joined one? Will HOPEFULLY be going to Peru in April 2016 and would love to add this Trek into the whole experience. Thank you!
+stacyk100 Thank for your comments. The Inca trail is very popular and the number of trekkers each day is limited. You have to book in advance with an authorised operator. See www.incatrailperu.com/inca_trail_tour_operators.html for more details. We used a local company, Intense Peru with whom we booked over the internet - www.intenseperu.com/
David, thanks for your comment. We used a Pentax K-01 dslr and a Panasonic FZ200. Both hand held. At times it might have been nice to have a tripod and since the trip I have brought a Sirui T-025X carbon fibre tripod which we used on a recent trip to Patagonia.
I truly enjoyed watching this video! What an incredible experience this must have been! One question though ... once you arrive at Machu Picchu .. how much time do you actually get to spend there before you must leave?? Only a few hours or so?? Perhaps an entire day?? Am curious and thanks ...
Day 4 is a very early start, with only a couple of hours walk to the sun gate, so you get to spend a long time at MP. Maybe 4-5 hours before catching the coach back.
Many thanks you share this film and time with us. My wife and I walked by Inca Trail in 2014. We will never forget it.
Leonel Poltosi Thank you for your kind comment. Glad you enjoyed the trail as much as we did!
This documentary is the best I have seen on the 4-Day Inca Trail. And I have seen over a dozen videos! Great work. Thanks! It is very informative in many ways.
A lovely video, thank you for sharing, also great to hear Burt Bacharach singing again! Those Inca steps look like hard work, well done!
I just finished the Inca trail. I am 53 and in good shape. I trained hard to get in even better shape to walk the trail. Day one isn't too bad compared to the rest of the trail. Day two is very hard. Day three and four aren't much easier.

Lovely and comprehensive video. Thanks for taking the time to do such a beautiful job. We plan on going next year and this was very helpful.

B.J.Thomas: Raindrops keep falling on my head
Kalamarka: Wawitay
Wara wara: Musica Instrumental Andina
Gheorghe Zamfir: The Lonely Shepherd
Inti Illimani: Dolencias

Fantastic video!! Very informative, lovely landscapes and colours.
Great adventure :)

Wonderful trail and works. Will do it in October.
A wonderful trip, finis coronat opus: the end coronates the hard working, reflects a successful life. Thanks.
Definitely on my bucket list.
fantasztikus egy világ, ahol az Inkák éltek!
Imi arányi imre glad you liked our video and please subscribe to our channel for more upcoming videos. Martin and Sharron
Stunning. Fab video fab place.
+William Moir Thanks, William. The Andes are really amazing.
Great presentation of the wonderful tour , Machu Pichu the wonder of Seven wonders. 🤝🙏💐
Thank you very much
Wow looks so beautiful and peaceful...
txdap it’s a great walk
Enjoy!
@@Kernowclimber do you mind telling me which solar powered battery pack worked best for you ?
Excellent video! Wonderful visual guide to hiking the entire Inca Trail and useful for those of us, like myself, who are training and preparing to hike it in May-June 2023. Thank you!
Thanks for your comment and good luck with doing the Inca Trail
Gracias, que hermoso viaje .
Great video, really makes me want to go there and do that again :) Though Day#3 music really gives you the impression of the slog it is, personally #3 was harder than #2 but that's imho.
Glad you like the video and congratulations for doing the route
Great video! Thank you for sharing your beautiful experience.
Cate Hamad thanks for your comment.
Have you done the trek?
Not yet! Next year... I'm very excited!
Good luck and have a great trip!
Thanks, Francois. Happy and safe travelling!
Amazing :) looking to go Machu Picchu I don't think I will do the inca walk.
Beautiful and breathtaking journey. Really amazing to see the trek and distance our ancients walked.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for sharing this...we are going there in July!
Have a good time
Fab video! Thanks for sharing! Reminds me of our trip :-)
Que sensacional! Quero agora!!
Best of luck :-)
martin critchley
thanks for the encouragement!
Real WeAreAllAmericans glad you liked our film. Hope you get to visit Machu Picchu sometime
Really amazing!
Lovely video! Going to do the Inca Trail myself in a couple of weeks, extra excited now
Thanks, glad you liked our video and hopefully it gave you some idea of waht to expect on the route. Good luck with your trip. Martin and Sharron
Wondarfull;tanks for this video.Congratulations thats Cool..............
Beautiful, full of life, background music superb
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it
Beautiful video
Great video .. The porters .. amazing... cooking a great meal ever stop .. incredible kudos to them carrying all the weight
Wooo well done!! I did the Inca Trail too. Was so hard. Your video is awesome! I have a a bit of a vlog on my TH-cam from our trip, I would love your advice about editing it as I’m pretty new to this.
Good luck with your future travels. 😊
Thanks, a lovely video!
If you want to know more about our experience on the trek, read the our blog:
kernowclimber.blogspot.ie/
No problems at all with the altitude as we spent some time in Cusco beforehand to aid acclimatisation. We booked through Peruvian company, Intense Peru, who used a local company, Camping Tours, for the trek. All was tip top, and we were very happy with both companies' service. Enjoy your trip to Peru next year :-)
Great video Martin, going there next year, can't wait now!!
Hope you enjoy it as much as we did. Running the descents greatly helps!
Cheers, will give that a go :)
Fre, we have nothing but fabulous memories of Peru and its people. Peru is a very beautiful country with an amazing culture and history. We loved it!
Kernowclimber Genial, me alegro mucho. Un abrazo a la distancia y a donde vayan la siguiente vez, disfrútenlo igual, almas libres.
Kernowclimber hermoso video pero ¿porque no fueron a huayna picchu?
We didn't have time to explore the city and also climb Huayna Picchu. Plus, you have to book this climb months in advance as the numbers allowed to ascend the mountain each day are limited.
What a fantastic adventure! What would those who lived there 500 years ago have thought of these strange looking hikers from the future? And Cortez? Fascinating history and engineering of this secluded old city. A must see for any world traveler.
Thank you very much. Glad you enjoyed it.
This is amazing! :)
mmm nice, will be there in March 2014
It worked. I did the trek no problem.
another excellent video guys!
Eccezionale!
vengan a nuestro perú, es hermoso!
We used a local company, Intense Peru with whom we booked over the internet - www.intenseperu.com/
very good, amigo what kind of camcorder you used please, good recording
David, thanks for your comment. We used a Pentax K-01 dslr and a Panasonic FZ200. Both hand held. At times it might have been nice to have a tripod and since the trip I have brought a Sirui T-025X carbon fibre tripod which we used on a recent trip to Patagonia.
MUY BONITO VIDEO SALUDOS A LOS ESPOSOS. ALGUN DIA VOY A IR POR ESA RUTA. SALUDOS A TODOS.
hermoso realmente una maravilla Machu Picchu quede muy impresionada
elsa alandia glad you liked our video and please subscribe to our channel for more upcoming videos. Martin and Sharron
Hi Martin, love the video and the adventure. Could you tell me what is the name of the song at 14:14?
The song is called Dolencias. Glad you enjoyed our video!
Thank you Kernowclimber, yes not only did i enjoyed your video and soundtrack but soon i'll see Machu Picchu for myself :-)
Thank you
