    I've played this game a few times. Its essentially King of Tokyo the fully cooperative game.

    We just got the Star Wars reskin of this game and we really loved playing it for the first time yesterday! It reminds me of Cosmic Run: Regeneration, which we also really enjoy. Assigning dice, rerolling others, earning cards that help you mitigate rolls -- what's not to love! So fun.

    Seems fun for the level of the game. I like when Sam described it as “not every game is winnable”. Feels kinda like movie. “Out of 14 million possibilies I saw us win 1”. People expecting this being high strategy you’d have to question. Some people you just can’t please.

    USAopoly has a great opportunity to flesh out the "Rising" game universe. Thanos Rising could just be the first gamein the series. I, for one, would love to see some new "Rising" games to be released such as Magneto Rising, Apocalypse Rising, Dr. Doom Rising, Kingpin Rising, etc. What an amazing chance to put some great Marvel Universe games out, and if I had my choice I would say that they should be able to be mixed and matched if desired. The collectible aspect of having a large model of each villain in the games would be really nice too. Here's hoping that they will work on getting the rights to more of the Marvel Universe and putting out more for the "Rising" line of games.

    I like Tom's idea of distributing the villains more. I hate games that have so much variance in when the "bad cards" come out that you could in theory lose in the first turn.

    Wow a lot of hate for this game. Not every game is super strategic heavy game. It is a fairly quick game and the randomness doesn't hurt it for me. Yeah the randomness of drawing the bad guys early sucks. But you lose quick and try again.
    The one thing that makes me like this game so much is that it is a movie tie in game that is actually pretty good.

    If Legendary had this artwork i think I'd like it better. just more my generation I guess but I still would rather own Legendary for my co-op Marvel game slot on my shelf. deckbuilding > dice rolling.

      Tig Biddy legendary went with movie stills in the Spider-Man homecoming expansion. I’m not for it. I don’t think I’m the only one since in my game store it’s the only expansion available. It’s just laying there for weeks since I’m waiting for dark city and other expansions.

      It seems a bit high, but not excessively so. I definitely seen worse. The miniature may not be needed, but I like having something like that on the table because it is so eye catching. I'm considering adding HeroClix into it when I get it just to have even more heroes out on the table.

    • @TheFilbert13
      @TheFilbert13 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I feel the opposite. I think the miniature adds a lot to the game. When playing board games I want the coolest components possible it adds a lot more to my experience.

    • @adamholt5395

      Filbert McFibs it's superficial though. You could easily substitute it for a pointer and the game would play the same.

    Winning by taking out 7 of the 10 villains in the deck seems....lame. You don't destroy Thanos? You don't really do anything to stop him? Just killed a few bad guys and its over? Seems anticlimactic!

    • @jumpyg1258
      @jumpyg1258 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I can tell you don't know much about Thanos. None of the characters contained in this game can destroy him.

      Of course, silly me. Thanos giving up after 7 of his 10 little minons are destroyed is much better than any other way they could have come up with to stop Thanos. My mistake!

    Looks like there's a Star Wars and Harry Potter reskin for this game. A shame that I', not a fan of any of these themes but I think the game looks solid. Would totally get it if they made a Samurai Jack - Aku Rising reskin for the game.

  • @XRay44

    Randomness isn’t a bad thing in games. Jeez. Whenever I hear someone complain about randomness and luck in a game, all I hear is “Whaaaa! I can’t control every little thing and it makes it harder to win when I don’t know everything that’s going to happen! Whaaaa!” Ugh. Stacking the deck to keep it from being so random? Seriously, Tom?? C’mon.

    • @thedicetower
      @thedicetower  6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      My apologies for Whaa-ing. I don't mind randomness, but sometimes in this particular game you get a setup where you can't win. If you think that's fine, then more power to you! I just would prefer to restart the game, is all.

    • @XRay44
      @XRay44 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Would you stack the deck in a similar co-op (like Pandemic) though? To me, it would dampen the challenge if I knew going in that an Epidemic won't break out until after the 5th round or 10th round or so. At that point, you're not really playing a game. You're following a script. Plenty of co-ops are sometimes "un-winnable". I know Pandemic has kicked my butt many more times than not, but I would never try to intentionally alter the game to my or the group's favor. But I don't really play to win at all costs. I'm more about the experience and the fun. If I'm having fun, I don't even care if I win or lose. If I win, that's gravy. I think randomness adds an unforeseen challenge that must be overcome and keeps you and the group on your toes. I don't get why so many gamers are vehemently against it, other than I think it may be a side effect of the increasing popularity of Euros. Gamers now expect zero randomness out of Amerithrash games these days. It's sad. :(

    • @PandaOfElastic
      @PandaOfElastic 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      In Pandemic you literally DO stack the deck to space out the Epidemics. It's part of setup.

    • @Vascariz
      @Vascariz 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's just bad game design. E.g. why not time enemy timing (with some variation if needed), variability is what enemy comes out.
      Also Tom gave it 1.5 thumbs up... not sure how it's wahing... I prefer honesty.

    • @neilgooge
      @neilgooge 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the majority of gamers who don’t mind randomness tend to be players who aren’t as good strategically in a game, or just want something light hearted or “fun”. It’s not an insult, but that tends to be the way it is, it’s different play styles and so different preferences.... also, randomness tends to feel sloppy in most games, its unconsidered and an easy out for most ideas. Given more time, they could have made this more strategic, the basic premise is nice, the execution feels sloppy... that’s why the randomness feels bad here. It’s the stacking randomness that isn’t great... dice, and cards... it’s why dice masters always feels... cheap. You’re just left at the whim of fate when when you’re stacking randomness. At that point you’re pretty much just going through the motions rather than actually “playing” something.
      But as I say, it’s a preference... it’s not a case of waaaahhhhhhh... it’s a case of some people just don’t find that fun, and when reviewing it, why wouldn’t you point that out.
      Plus... I will say, both of them liked it... randomness or not.

      Sam here...as they always say: "Looks can be deceiving." I mean, that IS a real saying, you know. I agree it doesn't look like much, but it is deceptively simple. Honestly, King of Tokyo didn't look like much to me at first glance, either, but it turned out that I love the game. I'm not equating this one with KoT, mind you, but they are both deceptively good in a similar fashion...imo.

      RadeTcg- literally that is their entire business plan.
      Their games cost money because of being IP-rush-to-markets. Every now and then (nothing comes to mind) they will succeed.
      I honestly will play this if someone else buys it. And I will enjoy my time.
      This game is meant for people seeing it those Mall Toy/Game/Edutainment stores. I am actuallu impressed by the effort and most of the mechanics involved in this game.
      I would echo Dice Tower, for the intended audience, it is a success.
      We play Scythe, Star Wars Rebellion etc.. Why do we need an USAoploly game to be good? Pay for quality not IP.

    Marvel Hype wins again. I have watched many playthroughs of this and it is extremely similar to Doctor Who Time of the Daleks(not reviewed by Miami Dice), a game i really enjoy. Extremely challenging. I am not connected to that theme. Because this theme is so popular this game gets a rave. Whereas Dr. Who gets dissed by the DT High Three on the latest 24 hour game marathon. Put any other non ip theme on this and i can hear it now: OK but nothing new. Disney Strikes Again. The IOI of the entertainment world!
