- Romania's Best Street Food! This week we’re finally trying street food in Bucharest! The goal is try to find both Romanian and international street food in the city.
We start things off with what we hear is a Romanian favourite, covrigi, which is similar to a pretzel. You can find them all over Bucharest, on street corners and bakeries (we got ours at a place called Luca). We get one that’s covered in sesame seeds.
The next dish we tried was not Romanian but it sounded like one we had to try in Bucharest, a hot dog! There was a few different options but we decided on the one named after the country - the Romania Hot Dog and it was delicious.
After this we headed to a place we’d seen in a few places throughout the city that only serves fries called Cartofisserie. We got one order plus a couple of sauces to go with it.
After taking a bit of a break we headed out to small street food shop to get some pork tacos. Anyone that follows us regularly knows how much we love Mexican food and these ones did not disappoint!
Next up was another dish we heard we absolutely had to try while in Romania, a dish called Mici or Mititei. They are basically small cylinders of ground meat. We also got ours with some Romanian cheese.
We didn’t want to finish the day off without a dessert, so we headed to a nearby food truck/kiosk that makes pancakes/crepes with different fillings and we opted for Nutella. It was the perfect way to end a delicious day!

Unfortunately it was so rainy! The mici can't be eaten without mustard. This is the ritual, with mustard and bread... Plus beer if you want!

Hey, great to see your video. I'm Romanian-Canadian, I lived 34 years in Romania but the best "mici" I ever had are are made in Canada, from Balkani (romanian store) near Montréal :). It was a big surprise for me, too.
don't force the note buddy...i'm Romanian too.... in Montreal but the best mici I have had in Deva market place called mici of Bulbucan.....ok I understand it's all about taste. I've have tasted mici of Balkani and they are very good. for the New Year Eve I Will enjoy it for sure....LA MULTI ANI 2021

at minute 2:43 you said that it reminded you of something in in turkey named Simit, and if you look at the bag you have in your hand ,the shop name is Simigeria Luca , as in Simit (turkis)/Simiger (the guy who makes the simit) + arie ( romanian suffix added to represent a type of job) . So "Simigeria Luca" is "Luca's Simit cooking place" so it is a Simit from turkey,they gave us all in the balkans alot of cooking recepies and took our wealth ,but whatever :))

You will find similarities in romanian-turkish food. We had some beefs with the Turkish empire few hundred years ago... So basically if Turkish families established in Romania, they brought some turkish traditional foods. Same thing you will find in Transylvania, for example, where you will find hungarian influence (I'll only mention "gulas" )... :)

@Made in Resita Some time ago you mean "junk" food, not bad food :))) And it's not just from a romanian point of view, everywhere on earth the street food is considered to be high in calories and overfried.. But it's pretty cheap and tasty. I'm in Romania myself and not all of us look at the street food as junk food. Actually, not even to McDonald's, we love Mc ;) :))
what part of Canada are you from, I'm a Romanian living in Canada, Toronto, and they have Romanian stores where you can buy "mici" the prepared meat and you can cook it yourself , on the barbeque. I liked your vlog makes me miss home

I've told you food is very tasty. Don't worry about calories, enjoy the moment, eat as much as possible of everything and try to compare with other food. Mexican, or chinese food is, as everywhere adapted to the local taste, to sell it. After the feast do some walking, and extra calories are gone in no time. I wish I was there to try all the food.

That covrig (a single one; covrigi for more of them) IS really good. They got it from a place that makes the best. ;) I personally like it whiter like theirs (softer, not very crunchy), but my fiance likes it darker (more cooked, crunchier). And "burned" was ok to say, though it's not the bitter, nasty kind of burned. it looks burned, but it's really not.

5:25 Cartofisserie seems like a hybrid play of cartofi (Romanian for potato) & pâtisserie (French for bakery), soooo a fancy chip shop...
9:30 Mici / Mititei are very similar to čevapčiči / ćevapi (Mmmm, Yum) found in Balkan States but the mix of meat can differ & sodium bicarbonate (E500) is added...

Fun fact, or just weird coincidence, but we have several pretzel/pattiserie places named after Apostles/Evangelists: Luca, Paul, Matei, Petru, Ioan, and possibly more in the future (found a small one called Marcu). (In fact, some of them are named after different people, but this is a coincidence too good to not roll with in the future).
You won't find better dough-based stuff than in these places, except maybe small-town bakeries but those are pretty locallized.
