Every time I stumble back upon this clip, the phrase "No, no you wouldn't would you... BUT YOU MIGHT." proceeds to float around in my head for weeks afterwards.
Ironically, it's British politeness, particularly of some Baby Boomers, that makes this sketch work. He's charmingly desperate not to offend and also has an inate nature to look on the bright side.
Got here from a link on Quora, in a post about people's reactions to others with disabilities. I have never watched this show, is not my kind of humor, but this sketch does illustrate how awkward some people can be in such situations
Comedy is all about provoking a reaction... it's about starting a conversation...and ultimately the chance to change perception...and it might! Ya know!

Steve Pemberton is such a gifted performer.
Both are
They’re all three the finest comic actors of their generation. I regularly rotate through which is The Best.

He sounded like he was slipping into Tubbs voice in parts.

I've rewatched that bit a thousand times. I love how worked up Steve Pemberton gets. He's spitting and frothing at the mouth :D

Kaluthrica , same ( came from quora ) . I think this sketch horribly forced and primitive, and I usually love british humor.
Kaluthrica me too, from quora

STOP TRYING TO HELP THAT MAN.
Every conversation with your Mum but with a guy called Simon which we didn't have. (well actually did my best mate one summer but she didn't know him)
I preferred the blind guy one.
Ben Milns "did they write it down for you in that bumpy writing ?" 😂😂
"How d'you shave???"
IS there a vid of the blind sketch on TH-cam? Can't find one
ive looked everywhere but i cant see it
That's what'll happen to you if you don't stop fiddling with yourself. Didn't stop me though did it!
I'm sure there was no canned laughter originally..
Only in seasons 1 & 2. Since afterwards, they got rid of the laugh track.
It was all in front of a live audience
It's not "canned laughter", it's a live audience. It was always there.
too too much hilarity

Screw what today's PC brigade says.
Today's "PC brigade"/Cancel culture would not understand this and take it completely at face value, find it offensive and get it banned.

This scene IS PC, that’s the whole point. It’s not making fun of disability it’s making fun of the awkwardness that can surround people’s disability

No they won’t, because it’s well intentioned and actually a very politically correct scene.
