New Hymnbook Debuts at Media Event

- The first batch of hymns have been digitally released in the new hymnbook of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Titled “Hymns - For Home and Church,” these songs were unveiled at a media event in the Tabernacle on Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah.

I love to see the guitars. Also good to hear how one of the hymns can be harmonized. Is there a full recording of the event somewhere?

Yes the newer songs in Primary are sooooo good. I pray they include "Choose Him Again" and "I Will Be What I Believe". During home church in 2020 our kids would sing "I'll have faith like Brother Joseph" and we would just be overcome with the Spirit and cry

It’s amazing to know how singing in unison brings the spirit in our sacrament meeting!
There is a new complexity introduced in some of the new hymns, like "D.C al coda" and "to coda.” I can't navigate music with that strangeness, so with those pieces I’ve had to stop singing. What used to be plain becomes arcane. As with the rubrics in CFM, the Church seems to have a new romance with involved or academized things. Academic gimmick.

My question is there are so many wonderful hymns already, children’s songs and now new material, how heavy is this book going to be? Or are they cutting lots of our beloved older music to make it not too unwieldy?

What beautiful additions to our hymnal. I’m so grateful for the lessons I learn and the Spirit I feel from our hymns.

We should have the words projected up on the wall behind the pulpit so people can lift their heads when they sing and their voices would fill the congregation we dont need hymn books and we need a chorister who practices the hymns every day at home so they have learnt the words
You need more than words to be projected, you need the musical notes as well for the 4 different parts, unless you want every hymn to be sung in unison?
I just bought the old hymn book when I was at the temple..
