took this equipment to a repair shop, cost me $40 bucks just for an assessment, repairman said cannot fix it and parts no longer available due to discontinued model. Came home search youtube saw your video and ordered belts from amazon, cheap. followed your instructions and now it works like a charm. such a waste going to the repair shop. Thanks for doing this, very appreciative.
This is so perfect! I have a Sony RCD-W50C, and the Deck B tray wouldn't come out. I was about to give up, until I came across this video. Now, it works! I can't believe you were able to shine a flashlight into the slot to open the tray! Very well done tutorial.
Thanks for providing this video - I obtained a set of belts from Amazon and fix was very easy. Curiously, my model only had 3 belts on the left side but replacing them did the trick.
Great instructions for belt replacement!! Did that with no problem. Gears got out of sync and can’t get unit to read for “TOC” or function correctly. Help!
Hello Robert. I think it's going to be difficult to troubleshoot this via the comment section. I didn't have this same issue either. The good news is that you can access the service manual for this unit which goes into great details about the disassembly process which may offer some insight into getting your gears back into sync. I did run into a similar issue on a different unit and in the end I just had to play around with moving the mechanism to various positions and reinstalling the belts to get everything back in sync. Here is the link to the website with the manual. Good luck to you. www.manualslib.com/manual/1139103/Sony-Rcd-W500c.html?page=18#manual
Thanks for this...I knew my long belt was shot, but didn't want to start taking things apart unnecessarily to find the two hidden belts. Do you have a source for the belts that you prefer and know fit properly ? Thanks.
Hello. I buy the belts through ebay in bulk variety packs usually and they run between 8 and 12 dollars. I have not purchased any recently so can't refer you to what vendor I used. In this case, do an eBay search on 'cassette deck belts' or 'cd player belts' and you will find several being sold in packs of 50 or 100 or even more sometimes with a variety of sizes included. For this deck, the belt width is 1.2mm and are described as 'square' . Sometimes you will see 1.5mm used as well and I can't recall if this deck had any of those. Most often they are 1.2mm. The lengths are what you will just have to experiment with by trial and error. You can measure your old belt lengths by folding them and measuring end to end to get a rough estimate but what I find works best to to just try what looks right and if it grips the pully without slipping and isn't crazy tight (too much so to load down the motor a lot), you should be fine. Cassette decks are more finnicky when it comes to picking the right size and even rubber quality. CD players are not too picky. Good luck!
I see the drive looks like a regular cd-writer drive for pc. Most of these use the same parts. Check the part no. of the optical pickup. i believe it is easy to find something similar.
Hello. I'm not sure on the specific sizes. You can find them on Ebay by searching with the unit's model number and the word 'belts'. I see there are people selling them as a set. I also have bought bulk belts on Ebay that come with multiple sizes and just find the closest one to the existing. Easiest would be to buy the set that are made for your unit but it usually costs a little more going that route. Good luck!
My unit was shot. Nothing would open or play. Opened it up, the rubber bands have no elasticity at all. Like they melted or something. Kind of a shitty design for the whole functionality of the unit to relay on some thin ass rubber bands.
@ringydwm I agree. The good news is that it's not hard to clean up all that sticky crap with some isopropyl alcohol and qtips and replace with new bands for low cost.
@vintageav I opened it right before bed last night. Will have to look into it when I have more time. My dad has the same unit so will be worth looking into for sure. Thanks for the video, will be coming back soon again to watch
Man you just saved me $300. Thank you for the in-depth no frills video.
@@castIexyn you are welcome! Thank you for the feedback!

Now that I know how to fix all 6 belts, how do I replace a burned optical block in the B side recording drive cuz mine won't register a disc.
