I bought this LP when it broke thinking it contained the song "Benedictus". At the time, I thought "Hero and Heroine" was Benedictus. I made that mistake which turned out to be one of the best mistakes of my life. This is one of my favorites of all time: in my top ten, withouta doubt.
John Hawken, the keyboard player here, was a member of Renaissance in their early (pre-Annie Haslam) days. Thinking of keyboardists, Rick Wakeman was part of Strawbs before he joined Yes.
Strawbs have made some truly beautiful music. A Glimpse Of Heaven, Flying, Shine On Silver Sun, Golden Salamander, I Only Want My Love To Grow In You, and Tell Me What You See In Me are all good examples. Though it's a sad song, So Shall Our Love Die has a wonderful melody. The Golden Salamander: "My golden salamander, You must take me as I am. I cannot change my colours, I am but a simple man." -Dave Cousins
Very common for 70's bands to have a long instrumental introduction to set the stage for what is about to come. Like reading a book ... It builds up so we'll.
I have loved the Strawbs music for a very long time. Dave Cousins is a master lyricist/composer and he has always managed to get excellent musicians into the Strawbs band to compliment his compositions. His songs usually have the themes of soft/romantic, dramatic/rebellion, and politico/religious, and I love them all.. On this album (Hero and Heroine) my favourite tracks are 'Hero and Heroine' and 'Round and Round', pure excellence.. So glad you got into this track Cynthia.. God Bless
Thanks so much for playing this. I have always loved The Strawbs for their Union Man song, because I am a trade unionist, but hadn't realised how much other fantastic songs they had🎶💙✊
A wonderful song from the most under rated of the progressive bands. Others you should try are You and I When We Were Young, The river/Down By The Sea, Tears and Pavan. Remarkable stuff.
I LOVE these first reaction videos, to see people expanding their musical knowledge. I was an all-night radio DJ for years, playing amazing things like this from midnight-to-6 a.m. nightly. Every night I would approach what I did as if I were painting pictures with sound. It is amazing what music will seque into the next when done right. Had the highest rated show in the city for years.
Straub's have been one of my favorite groups for many years. I've seen them live three times every time wonderful. Some pieces can be a little on the dark side but absolutely wonderful music
It’s great to see young people getting into the classic music! Thank you for helping to spread the word. Suggestion for other Strawbs songs to listen to: Benedictus Glimpse of Heaven The Promised Land Shine On Silver Sun The Weary Song Another Day The Man Who Called Himself Jesus We’ll Meet Again Sometime Hanging In The Gallery For a long multi-part magnum opus like this one, try Ghosts or Down By The Sea.
I like the album From the Witchwood, I think it was released in 1971.I will just say camel breathless I know you will like it.Stay safe young lady and all the best from England.
Oh my dear Cynthia... I enjoyed it so much discovering this beautiful song together with you... your facial expression resembled exactly mine while listening to this song. I knew the band Strawbs, but haven't heard THIS particular song from them... what a wonderful discovery. I love it so much, when I can discover and enjoy new music together with you, my dear. Talking about relaxing songs... try out Al Stewart "Year of the cat"... you will love this song, too, I'm sure... although it's a midtempo number, it's very smooth and relaxing... and Al Stewart's voice is very soothing, too. Hugs and kisses : Your friend Gerry
@@AmbroseCynthia Just gonna sneak in again and agree with troedelgerry about this and ... Year of the Cat ... a must listen :) keep doing what you do Cynthia.
Cynthia, you're bringing new music us! Beautiful song, never heard it before, thankyou! As always a lovely reaction. Thanks so much for reacting to this song
Isn't it wonderful how good music can be to listen to when there are real words and well written music. I love your emotional reaction. Please try the ultimate pink Floyd. Please start with dark side of the moon and prepare for a journey. Cheers
Just about anything this band has ever done you will adore, with one possible exception. Their track "Part of the Union" is very unlike their other material. It was very popular at the time, and I guess is quite a clever protest song about the industrial unrest in Britain at the time, butI wouldn't reccomend that. Suggest you try a live version of "The River/ Down By The Sea" next.
One of the most beautiful songs in Prog Music. Calming, ethereal and moving.
the whole album is a masterpiece of beautiful music
I love the Strawbs! Haven’t heard them for years and years…thanks! I had this album when it came out. Brilliant.
They’re still making great music! Their most recent album, ‘Settlement’ (2021j is awesome! ‘The Ferryman’s Curse’ (2017) is also excellent.
@@georgewatts5505 thanks, I will check it out. Didn’t even know they were still around!

Beautiful. Don't know the group myself. Awesome video. You know how I am with nature scenes. I got lost in the instruments. The music was so peaceful
Me too Orin
Hey Cynthia, you'll like the early King Crimson. You need to hear," Epitaph ", and " I Talk to the Wind ".
TH-cam keeps blocking king Crimson’s songs

Yeah, I agree somewhat. It isn't like Strawbs. But, it is a great pro-union song you can stomp your feet to.
Thanks for doing Strawbs! Please try "Carpet of the Sun" by Renaissance.
Strawbs went first class all the way every way.
The very pretty song of the history ♥️
Wonderful instrumental!
Long gone the days of which dreams were made, naive in the glow of Evergreen.
I love Strawbs!
gave me goosebumps
I know It makes you cry
Beautiful
interesting choice... more progressive rock ... I suggest you listen to a song called "S. F. Sorrow Is Born" by the Pretty Things
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Try Glimpse of Heaven
