Thanks a period before I was born. Smokes all around awesome. Correct if im wrong but tipping rubbish over the side without a weighted bag would show a sub in the vicinity ? Again thanks these guys real heroes.
I've watched a half hour so far and it's almosy boring. Perhaps it picks up later. The best WWII submarine movie I've ever seen is Das Bot about the U Boat service. It is so realistic you an almost smell the sweat and diesel. Great movie if you've never seen it.
Hard to keep track of what is going on. Much of the dialog is very technical, but you get the basic ideas. The number of dials and wheels and switches is bewildering. A modern day submariner would probably faint dead away looking at it. :) Note: I have no sound so am going by the CC so I assume most of what I am missing is actually there. :(
This is an excellent movie giving an idea of what life was like in these old diesel boats. Nice to see that the crew aren't going around in smart uniforms and are in 'pirate rig'. instead.
I have always wondered how so many sailors in these submarines didnt get claustrophobia¿ It is a real thing and no fun. I experienced it once in a sub basement of a highrise building. I had to get out of there fast.
Our heros spot a U boat, what does the Captain do orders hard to Port. So now the sub is going in circles to the left. By some miracle with no input from the captain the sub is pointed bow on to the U Boat but misses with two torpedos however the deck gun is also pointed at the U Boat. What is our genius captains next order, hard to Starboard so now they are going in circles to the right. Again by some miracle they are now running parallel and have to turn the gun which had been already pointing at the U Boat to Port. But now instead of bow on to the enemy they are broadside to them, the last place one would want to be. Just nice of the U Boat to also keep broadside to our heroes. At that point I turned the movie off.
The sub wasn't going in circles. Shortly after the command Hard To Port, the commander issued midships - and you saw the helmsman do that. So the sub made a sharp turn left to intercept the enemy vessel. The rest of the confusion is probably due to film editing.
@@keithammleter3824 The helmsman replied "steady as she goes" which means holding the course the captain ordered. In fact instead of hard to Port the captain would have looked at the compass and ordered the helmsman to steer such and such degree. The whole sequence was done for dramatic effect. No real captain would have acted in such a manner.
@@philbellamy5556 Under most circumstances a sharp turn resulting from Hard To Port should be avoided as it puts strain on the submarine. However when manouvering at periscope depth or on the surface in order to attack an enemy vessel, Hard To Port (or Hard to Starboard is not an unusual command. The commander is not concerned with compass headings and is watching through the periscope. British WWII submarines were pretty slow on battery power, only about 9 knots, so in order to get a hit, the commander and crew had to react pretty fast or the opportunity was lost.
Header does say ,1943. That was a time and world so different from ours that we could never understand. And I suppose all the crap filmed today is so realistic and believable. There's something called Netflix, probably more your taste

Nice views of HMS Tribune
Thanks for posting
Very realistic and atmospheric.
An excellent film and well produced.
Interesting period piece that shows a part of the British Navy not usually the focus of WWII movies.
Oh the privlages of rank. Love the captain in his civies while at the helm in the coming tower.

Quite realistic. No drama. Just going about their duty

The captions weren’t even close. I was waiting fot the Norwegians to tun into German saboteurs.
Hip Hip Hooray. Excellent movie.
Most enjoyable 😉
Depth charges and all water tight doors OPEN!
Good catch. Also, while loading the fish, smoking lamp mostly def would not be lit.
Great❤
At least there's no kissy face mushy stuff😂

Thats why subs is a volunteer service 😊
Most are weeded out during sub school and the psychologists.
Yeah the probably do a lot of training and wouldnt let you do it if you couldnt handle it.
Great flic but the sets don’t do justice to the size of a wwii sub
Minute 18. Old to be a SBLT unless re-upped
Thumbnail not exactly accurate
❤❤
Thumbnail in colour, film in black and white!.clockbaith
Clockbaith? Film is a black and white marvel! Colour would ruin it.

Total rubbish but what would you expect from a happy propaganda film for the nation. Britannia rules the waves but at a Sunday picnic pace.

Really awful video quality.
It’s black & white, colourise it and remaster with AI, or I won’t watch it.
That'll show them
Nobody cares what you watch but you….😊
You sound like the kind that demands their underwear but stains be colorized and textured... Clumps and all.
