I was surprised that the sub (in the movie) went down as deep as 1,000 feet (on purpose) and survived. I have a good friend who served aboard submarines in the 80's. As a fictional novelist of Navy warfare books, I have asked him many times about the maximum depth our subs can get to and never received an answer. He's a credit to all who served, are serving and will serve in the United States Navy and the Silent Service.
A similar episode was related by a crew member aboard a us nuke sub during the 80s where there was no commo with base or satellite. He went by the alias as "officer x" on the old art bell show. Gripping story!
In the Navy we never call a submarine a ship. They are called BOATS! He should have said SECURE THE BOAT. This comment is for continuity and originality. It would have been more realistic if he, the Captain said SECURE THE BOAT.
Submarines are really, truly amazing boats. I still find it hard to believe that something that big can submerge and stay underwater almost indefinitely due to nuclear power. The only limit is supplies and the crew. God bless the men and women in uniform!
@6:58, I believe it was good the movie script had that scene a part of the movie. Married servicemen and women serve WITH their wives and husbands. All to often we overlook everyone serves, Dads, Moms, children, Grandparents, everyone who knows the service member is away from home serving America are locked in arms knowing one day their service member may pay the ultimate price for our Freedom and they will be left with memorys and sorrow. Keeping America FREE 'ain't' FREE, it comes at a huge cost. GOD BLESS and KEEP America's service men and women, without their sacrifices our Freedom would be lost.

And I most definitely did not.
