Titanium is light an very brittle because it doesn't flex.. look at a titanium connecting rod like nascar uses there discarded after 1 race..that's a 3,000 dollar set of rods

Titanium if allowed into karting will trump the costs of what tires have done to the karting. It will not help karting as much as the damage and cost increase this material will impact and the average non-sponsored racer will just be pushed out of the sport completely. Think about the damage the tire wars caused. 20 years ago most local track in NC had 15-20+ entries per class on average. Now you see half that at best and half of the adult classes are run by factory support drivers. The average driver that does it for the love of racing, have moved onto other things so they are not making a house payment a month to afford their hobby. Only a few ever come close to break even cost vs winnings and less have a year that they ended in the black.

Just talked with someone who had completely changed out to Ti. Said it saved 10lbs but doesn’t think the cost gained him that much in performance. There will be a rush to have it then people will figure out the cost doesn’t equal the results and back to standard they’ll go. Those who can will, and those who can’t will feel pride when they beat higher priced stuff. Imo.

Thank you. Definitely could have used the weight break in that class.

Most run a ti axle with a steel sleave to pass the magnetic check....easy... also all nuts bolts studs .... can save easy 20 pounds on a kart....also carbon seats, bolts, pans, cachcan guards, body's, I've even seen experimental carbin berfbars with a metal.sleave.....

As an engineer keep in mind a titanium axle will flex quite a bit more than a steel axle.

Really? I assumed stronger yet more brittle? At least that’s what I’ve always know it to be. Kinda like carbon fiber type tendencies.

I just had a couple quick questions. I was wondering if you could help answer them. I’m a x uMP dirt modified driver. Are used to race go karts 30 some years ago back when it was stock appearing flatheads I am really interested in getting back into go karts and in the series of RWYB or UAS but my main question is getting into these go karts again I weigh 328 pounds by myself what would be a good go kart set up for a person that is my size to get back in a go kart racing and UAS wise chassis, wise and motor wise thank you

I’d look for something a little more ridged something with .095 wall tube built for heavier drivers. As far as power plants I’d probably go for something like a 450cc MX engine or Jawa. No matter what your going to be heavy (I’m not poking fun) some of us will have a hard time getting enough left weight in the kart that I think you’ll be fine. Those are heavier engines and I could suggest a 250 two stroke to save weight but the torque of the 450 suits heavier driver better. IMO.

I ride Phantom personally but any major manufacturers going to be a good choice. Kinetik, Charger, UltraMax, Millenium ect.
