he was from lakeside and I managed dominos he would order after his fight and was humble snd and nice. he seemed shocked i knew him and gave me an autograph.
Norris? He was always disliked by the boxing press, for some reason. Think it was his habit of issuing challenges to smaller fighter yet never considering a move up to middlewight himself. Since Norris always made 154 easily I always thought that was a harsh take. Always came off as a real nice guy and is the same in retirement from what I can tell.
Good fight. Curry was really gassed later in the fight, almost like he maybe had some underlying cardio issue where he just didn't have the endurance. He looks like he's in good shape, it's not like he's all fat and slow, but if your legs give out around the 6th or 7th round, you're not going to make it far.
he had weight problems already . he did not look fat but he was dehydrated . they weighed in on the day of the fight back then too . you had a few hours to rehydrate .
Norris was like sugar ray Leonard, fast, accurate, combination after combination ! Norris trained very hard in the gym, burnt out early, like Tyson, super nova kind of brilliance ! Not longevity but fantastic for a time.
Tyson became youngest Heavyweight Champion at age 20, won 3 titles and became undisputed heavyweight champion from 1985 to 1992. .. He went to prison in 1992 and his record was 42 - 1 . He did 3 years of prison which did diminish his boxing skills, but after 3 years of prison he still managed to win and recapture the WBA HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP against Frank Bruno in 1996, then he won another IBF HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP against BRUCE SELDON . He didn't have enough prime ability to beat the HOLYFEILDs and Lewis' s after 3 years of prison, but he still beat some tough top contenders after prison such as BUSTER MATHIS, CLIFFORD ETIENNE, BRIAN NEILSON, JULIUS FRANCIS, LOU SAVERESE, BRUCE SELDON , FRANK BRUNO & ANDREW GOLOTA............. So in a 20 year career, Youngest Heavyweight Champion, Undisputed Heavyweight champion, Destroyed hall of fame great MICHAEL SPINKS , 2 Time Heavyweight Champion after 3 years of Prison, and his record was 50 - 6 with 44 KO's.......... I think The Honeyghan fight Messed Don Curry up and they should never have took that fight at Welterweight, He was struggling to make the welterweight limit and should have gone straight up to Light Middleweight, They underestimated Honeyghan who was on the up and unbeaten at the time it’s a shame cos he really could have gone on to even greater thing’s but I don’t think he ever got over that Loss and getting KOed by Mike McCallum , He was one of my Favourite Fighters back then and a fine sportsman , As for Norris he was a very very Dangerous and Clever fighter and Very Durable, and been in with the Best of his era ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
And he was really beating McCallum more than anyone had up to that point. The right hand buckled his knees in the second round. Donald is also my favorite fighter but he committed a cardinal sin in boxing standing still, no moving and keeping his hands down
Imo Curry would have knocked him out in 2 or 3 rounds if the fight took place pre 86 or even the curry that fought Mccallum, but after the honeyghan then Mccallum fights Curry was never the same again.Sometimes in boxing nothing recedes like success,Michael Nunn the same to a lesser degree.

@@paulburns1333 Haha, you must have been the only one except for Lloyd that thought he had any shot against Curry then! I remember reading the Daily Mirror (UK newspaper) preview beforehand and the gist was this: that Curry was a mile above Honeyghan, who was considered a strictly European level fighter and would be outclassed in 6 rounds. Whereas I thought that was a harsh assessment, I'd watched a lot of Honeyghan's fights on the way up and he'd shown nothing to suggest he would give Curry any trouble at all. Fact is, Curry who was as a sharp and fast a fighter as you'll ever see (don't know who you were watching!) had none of that against Honeyghan. Lloyd was a reflexes fighter and the Curry we'd seen up to that point (and the Mccallum fight, actually) nails him, under normal circumstances. Unfortunely for Don, he fought like he'd just run 10 miles in a plastic suit and spent an hour in a sauna beforehand (which, considering the insane amount of weight he had to drop to make the 147 pound limit, may not be too far from what happened). Zero snap, speed, sluggish reflexes, absolutley nothing that were his usual standout qualities. Anyway, I know Lloyd bet on himself to win that fight, so I hope you did likewise. Obviously this was at the end of Curry's career, and this wasn't the same guy that just cut through Staffird, Larocca, McCory, etc. But he gave it all and showed how much heart he had in this fight, and made Norris earn this win.
Two near-perfect fighters. Beautiful balance and posture
Is that 'I pity the fool' in the background? 19:23 They're both like a poor mans version of Ray Leonard. Come to think of it Ray should have fought Curry as his comeback. But I forgot how fired up Terry was in '91. Really good year for him.
12:00 Norris blocks before punching, brilliant. block/punch again 13:13
I'll always love Norris for kicking crap out of Leonard! Especially the shot he hit SRL with when he was on the deck. Egomaniac types need that!
33:25...
One hell of a right by Curry...
The commentators saw Norris was hurt.
Even Currys corner was telling him loud and clear...and he didn't t follow up...???
27:53 Here too
The sign of a faded fighter. He looked good in spells in this but he couldn't sustain it and was having to go all out to stay competitive.
De La Hoya had a similar issue when fighting Pacquiao. That spark and killer instinct was just gone by then.
he was from lakeside and I managed dominos he would order after his fight and was humble snd and nice. he seemed shocked i knew him and gave me an autograph.
Looked like he hit him when he was down--something Norris was good at.
He lost two fights to Troy Waters, doing the same thing.
Michael Cobb it was Luis Santana not Troy waters
@@michaelcobb7097 Luis Santana not Troy Waters
I would say that's pretty much LONGEVITY
George foreman should have been excused from the broadcast when he said Norris is no finisher. What an idiotic comment.
Great fight man infact just top draw quality technical fight
I don't know why but I'm always reminded of Meldrick Taylor when I see Terry Norris. And vice versa.
Very humble
If you would close your eyes when Terry speaks . You could of swore it was Billie Dee Williams speaking lol
Donald is also my favorite fighter but he committed a cardinal sin in boxing standing still, no moving and keeping his hands down
Curry would have the edge in his prime. He was hurt but Terry landed a good right after Donald was down. Big no no!
terrible terry norris!!!!!!!
The Matriarch of my family was a woman named Alice Gibbs. Donald Curry and I both called her Aunt Jewel.
The fact is that Curry was damaged goods by the time this fight took place, just like Mugabi and Leonard were by the time Norris fought them.
He didn't retire Sugar Ray Leonard, Ray had one more fight against Macho Camacho.
Knowledge Somemore True, bad decision on Ray’s part.
@@charlesanderson1422 Yeah Ray thought Macho Camacho couldn't hurt him. Sugar Ray was always calculating, he thought Terry Norris had a glass jaw. I give both Norris and Camacho credit because they both knew they had to win by K.O. or by a wide margin because Sugar Ray had to be dam near dead to lose a decision.
@@knowledgesomemore3564 yep and Ali had one fight after Holmes, what's your point there?
Curry's prime was 84/85 he was a beautiful fighter then. Not so much here.
I remember Donald Curry being such a great fighter but then he ran into Honeygan and we never saw the same Curry 🍛 ever again
All I remember was people saying how good Curry was. Never agreed. I fully expected Honeyghan to beat him and was proved right despite the odds.
@@paulburns1333 Okay but Honeygan was not that great either didn’t even make it as champ as long as Curry
I think your reasoning was about as far off the mark as is possible for anyone who actually watched boxing in the mid-80s, but a broken clock is right twice per day, I guess 😅
I agree One of the Greatest of all time who fought Julian Jackson in his prime. NORRIS BEAT GREAT FIGHTERS AND NEVER DUCKED ANYONE. HE WOULD HAVE BEATEN chavez but not Salvador Sanchez.
Salvador Sanchez was a featherweight. Norris would have destroyed chava. That’s not even a fair fight.
MAANNNN, I Was Surprised To Hear Anybody Mention The Great " Salvador Sanchez" 😉👍
He is lucky he faced an over the hill Leonard. In his prime, no contest.
Boo hoo
He was foutunate to fight Curry past his prime and I'm a fan of both
No one made them fight past their prime. They thought they were still good enough, they were wrong and they lost.
@@markcynic808 Spot on.
Despite how their records looked both men fought like lions
Terry left him laying at the ⛱ It was such a nice view! 😆
Why do we need announcers?
thank you
George says Donald Curry seeing double how would he know that stupidity
Shame both these fighters have brain trauma now.
Who needs modern day sports ?
I miss these old fights.I used to Love watching boxing on Wide World of Sports on Saturday afternoon/evenings before you had to pay 50+ bucks for every decent fight...Bob Arum and Don King ruined boxing
wish we could have Terry Norris vs Jermel Charlo prime for prime
So young Jimmy lennon jr🥰
In 1976 I went to wrestling in San Diego and Jimmy Lennon SR worked the card.
Lampley said he was cruising to victory but he got iced in 2 rounds smh 🤦🏿♂️😂
That's what happens in boxing if you get caught with the punch there's nothing you can do it's over it was a good fight donald there comes a time when boxing comes to an end,God bless.
Foreman was correct. Norris was on his way to greatness. How he didn't make it, I have no idea.
Wasn’t Curry shot?
yes - finished at this stage
Too bad donald the cobra curry didnt train as hard as he should have....he got lazy and loyd honeygan made curry pay for it...and curry simply lost it by this fight...curry lost his edge his zeal....
Don had a cancer ...
and he hits another guy when he's down on the canvas !
MI PREGUNTA CUANDO MURIO DONALD CURRY?
How about getting ko by julian in do you know me talk
Norris made a career on beating up blown up welters and past their prime fighters
Great fight ! Old champion against young one . Both fought their heart out. Norris was fast, accurate, combinations, movement but his defense was a little suspect. Don't know if he could beat a young Sugar Ray or Tommy Hearns or Hagler.
I know these two greats and also julian jackson wilfred scypion marvin hagler frank the animal fletcher money fighters of the 70s 80s
Didn’t duck no one
😓 I just came to hear how he use to sound!!! This is so sad!!!! Brain Damage
Terry Norris #1
He beat an old man not Leonard
im a huge terry norris fan he was awesome but had a glass jaw which made his fights scary to watch because even when he was dominant one punch could stop it. Julian Jackson damn hf you haven't seen it go watch
BOTH KNEES ONDE FUCKING GROUND...WOW...A DISQUALIFICATION TO ME
2:49 plastic suit... no no.
why not?
@@uncletony6210 are you a pro or an amature boxer
