I love this guy

Agree! Andre just makes me happy and improves my day. Thanks Andre!!!!
I wish he would shut up for one minute, he pauses the video constantly to add some nonsense comments.
He doesn't always do that. It can be annoying, though.
same!
When she was going on and on about how Germany doesn’t have bagels…. 👀 (Who’s gonna tell her?)
Oh I know! I think people pointed it out in her comments.
Yea... she got about halfway through that part and my brain just went, "oh.. oh no 😅"
@TexasVagabond She is an idiot, she acts like if she personally hasn't seen something it doesn't exist or is impossible.
I thought the same thing. WOW
I was thinking the same thing!
yeah there's a reason they don't really have bagels in Germany - about 80 years ago they got rid of all the...bagel makers
Funny that...
We all thought it, you said it
I'm going to assume she doesn't know bagels are a Jewish food.
Right, and just a bit of research would have greatly helped her not be so insensitive. 😅
Maybe the German should do some research about why it’s so tough to find bagels in Germany.
It's always funny to me when Italians bash on "American Italian food." Historically, when the first large wave of Italian immigrants got to new york they left because there was no opportunity at home, they were poor and hungry. They got to America, and even the sweatshop workers could afford meat. Italian immigrants on average spent more on meat per month than on their rent. For two reasons, the first was because they could afford to now. The second was there was enough to go around and people weren't starving. So all of the "American Italian food" that gets mocked by "Real Italians" are literally just making fun of the dishes their ancestors would have made (and did) if they weren't poor.
My grandmother had to adjust her recipes when she moved to the US, there was a greater variety of ingredients ... of higher quality. She took advantage of this and produced a superior meal.
As others have commented, storm doors are typically sold with screen inserts for the summer and glass ones for the winter. But even those that are only glass have 3 functions: 1. The air space between the doors works like insulation, helping keep excess heat and cold outside. 2. During the day, you can open the main door and let sunlight in through the storm door without lettings bugs in with it. 3. If you live in the north, storms sometimes blow snow into piles (we call them "snowdrifts") against the bottom of your door. Your main door opens inward, so without a storm door that snow will fall inside the house when you open the door. But if you have a storm door, it opens outward and will push the snow away.
Many storm doors have a section that opens like a window, and that section has a screen in it.
My storm door has security glass.Harder to break the glass. My neighbor's has weather glass, more insulating than regular storm door glass.
Medical ads and ads for lawyers and doctors are just accepted. The ads for drugs began years
It also protects the paint on the door from the weather .
As an older man, I've been writing checks all my life, but now I pay almost all my bills online. I really only write checks for my rent, but if I were to buy something important, or lend money to a friend, I'd definitely use a check. It gives you an immediate receipt as proof of payment.
💯 everything she said about technology is available in the USAMERICA.
Landlords want checks for several reasons. Some do not want to spend money on electronic payment equipment. They want a paper trail, because let's face electronics break down and do not leave a trail.
You have not had to use a written check in the USAMERICA since the 80s. If you had a job back then, you had the option of direct pay (checks), or direct deposit, and a debit card.
You also did not have to go to the bank since the 70s (ATM) has been available for a while.
The purpose was to keep workers from crowding banks at 4pm on Fridays.
Watching your reaction to the young German girl about 7 things she had not seen until she came to the USA, I have a couple comments. 1. You should think of the US as a large country with OPTIONS...pay by check, online, via Zelle, etc, debit/credit card, automatic payments through your bank, money order (purchase at some grocery stores, Walmart, etc) or bank check (purchase at your bank), the last two are more secure for the receiver.
Other options: flavored coffee creamer, multiple flavors of cookies, chips, bread, cereal, etc...because we are a country of immigrants from many countries.
We have big cars/houses and small ones, condos, apartments, mobile homes, etc.
Some choose to live where it's always sunny, some prefer colder climate and a large portion of us like seasonal changes. Many just live where their job is, no matter the weather.
Advantage of a storm door in addition to regular door: a) you can use screen in the frame when you want fresh air and/or sunshine coming in, without the insects or you replace the screen with a Plexiglas or glass panel when it's colder.
You can also lock the storm door so when someone knocks, you may feel safer and less vulnerable by opening the inner door to see who is there before allowing them access.
Just my insights, thanks for "listening". I do enjoy your videos, thank you.
"bagels are sacred, especially in NY."
30 seconds later: "bagel is just another type of bread."
Yeah... She's not allowed to complain about American bread anymore 😆
Edit: 15
And those doors usually have screens and plastic windows. The screens are obvious, leave the main door open and have a good breeze. She mentioned glass windows, which would be a bad idea. Storms can throw around sticks and other debris, the the storm door can help prevent damage to your standard door, which could potentially even have breakable glass windows.
We don't have just sweet cream cheese, we also have savory cream cheeses like smoked salmon cream cheese, and chives flavored cream cheese, etc. We also have regular of course.
hate, hate, hate ads for prescription drugs ... they dominate the tv ads and I think they should be outlawed. And I can't tell you the last time I wrote a check. My 85 yr old mother still uses checks but its just because she is uncomfortable with anything else.
My apartment complex’s management office has yet to move into the 21st century. Their only online presence is through the major third-party apartment finder sites, and they don’t offer online rent payment, so I have to write out a rent check monthly.
Sorry but I like them because it helped find a drug that fit better for me. I get they are annoying but think on the other hand
Sorry for you but the First Amendment allows them to advertise. If you don’t like it the best way to stop it, is to let the broadcaster/network know you don’t like them and rather not have them aired the on their station.
Do you have diarrheabetes? Ask your doctor about new Plavosmoxen. See if Plavosmoxen is right for you.

"The First Amendment protects speech from government interference. In a 1976 case regarding pharmacies wishing to advertise the price of their drugs, the Supreme Court ruled that this protection extends to commercial speech, speech that advertises a product or service. This opened the floodgates for corporate speech-and is why you see ads for drugs today." - Professor David Vladeck of the Georgetown University Law Center
The thing about glass storm doors is you can open your main door and let more light in. It's like adding an extra large window to your room.
Storm doors are glass and aluminum, most house doors are wood. The storm door protects the wooden door from water, snow , ice and wind. Our house doors open inward so the storm door (which opens outward) lets you open your door without the weather coming in.
Water fountains are usually cold, which we tend to prefer in the US. Tap water isn't chilled or filtered.
Yes! This! It's always really cold and most of the time tastes really good. Nothing better than being thirsty or hot and finding a drinking fountain while out and about.

often times a storm door is also a screen door, you can switch it so in the warmer months you put in the screens and when its cold you switch to the glass, it adds an extra layer of insulation and also you can open the main door to have a look outside without snow/rain/cold air blowing in to the house. Also Bagels are a jewish food in origin, which is why they are so great in New York bakeries (those bagels in the super market are just crappy bread in the shape of a bagel if you're a NY'er like me) - and they were very common in Germany and eastern europe when there were jews living there.....

You are right about NY bagels. Boston has pretty good bagels too. 😋

Ummm who's gonna tell her that the water in the water fountain and bottle filling stations IS tap water?? She'd rather use water from the public restroom?? I personally haven't drank from a water fountain since I was a child, but I would do that before getting water from a public restroom. Ewwwww
Some drinking fountains do have water filters. Not all though.
@@rtyria More don't than do. And filters need to be changed. I've never seen anyone changing the filter in drinking fountain.
FYI: One new thing I've seen on other channels recently to not have to need deal with customs on shipped gifts is that they're using the Amazon 'wish list'. There you save items you might actually enjoy to receive & others can view your list also. They can select to gift an item that is on your 'wish ' & it ships the same as if you had ordered it yourself. Yes, packages will simply seem to just appear. I hope this helps.
[Edited for clarification] She's is not old enough to realize that there was a time when they didn't SELL bottled water to carry around with you. [there are exceptions] But in GENERAL.
how long ago did who not have water bottles? really curious about this comment
@@Jliske2 - like prior to the 90's. We drank from glasses, water fountains, straight from the tap, the occasional to go cup, the hose.... there were no bottles for water, disposable or like the Stanley cups. That is all fairly new. I didn't even realize for like 10 years I was sharing the same glass of water every night with my cat! Now I have a nice reusable cup with a tight lid!
@@Jliske2I’m in my 50s and when I was growing up water fountains were everywhere and bottled water was rare. There certainly weren’t special-purpose portable water containers unless you want to count thermoses and canteens.

She can't be more than 30....And I'm not making a comment that she is young and it's a fault. When she was a kid, they had it. So of course it seems weird to her. it was not until the 1990's that "bottled" water became ubiquitous. Yes there was bottled water. I'm not saying this is an absolute. There are always exceptions.
I was born in 83. Even in the 90s it wasn't very common for people to buy water unless they were expecting a catastrophe lol
It's called a Drinking Fountain. In storm doors the glass is on tracks so you can slide the glass up and expose the screen underneath for ventilation. She's been here for 5 years and she's still a little confused about some things.
I think the terms drinking fountain and water fountain are a regional preference. We say water fountain here. Edit: I found a map showing where we say drinking vs water fountain and a very small area says bubbler which I've never heard. Look up Inverse media Slang in Different Regions of the U.S.

The advertisements for prescription drugs are the really bad part, it's the fact that drug companies send representatives to the doctor's office and cut deals to give the doctor a cut of the amount of prescriptions they write for a drug company
Yes, and I don't think the advertisements for drugs is meant for us anyways. They are targeting doctors. I know I will never remember the drugs they advertise. So that is another sign about just how much money they are willing to waste just to advertise to less than 1% of the target audience.
Wish they would just advertise in professional journals and direct mail to doctors. These minute long commercials with a cast of 20-30 people singing and dancing. The amount spent on costumes, sets, ( design, construction, lighting, locations) actors, vocal coaches, choreographers, musicians, and the cost of air time, and producers, directors and whole behind the scenes crew seems better spent on research or figuring out how to cut costs.
I'm a doctor. I've never heard of such "deals". What these drug reps do do is offer to take the doctor out to lunch or other very minimal inducements. Also, for some small numbers of prominent doctors, mainly researchers, they offer payment for giving lectures to other doctors promoting certain drugs. Frankly, during my career (before retiring) I always avoided them. I found them more an annoyance than anything else and most other doctors I have known feel the same way. They just take up your time. The one exception is when they offer free samples of their product you can give to patients as "starter" samples (to use pending filling a prescription) or to patients without insurance that covers drugs.
@@kevinerose No, they are meant for you--so you will do as they say and ask your doctor for their product. If you have the condition they are targeting and aren't doing that well on whatever you are currently taking, you will remember the product and may very well ask for it.
@@jimwilcox2964 The courts have said it's free speech. The companies have a First Amendment right to advertise. And obviously it works or they would agree with you it wasn't worth the cost and stop doing it. Feli never heard of such ads because other countries don't have a First Amendment.
Cream Cheese on a cinnamon/raisin bagel is a personal favorite for breakfast.
I love strawberry or blueberry cream cheese on blueberry or mixed berry bagels. One of my favorite kinds of bagels is cinnamon raisin. I always had to choose between peanut butter or regular cream cheese on them, until my grandchildren decided to split up their bagels and share, and discovered a mix of the two toppings is the best. 😀
And with cinnamon sprinkled on top...yummy!
I love that combo too - though I prefer garden veggie cream cheese on my cinnamon raisin bagel -- the contrast just adds an extra layer of YUM!
I haven't used checks in decades. As a Walmart cashier I find that checks are usually only used by the elderly or scammers.
28:09 - and wind as well. Just using a nice door doesn't work as well, because the wind, rain, and snow, will beat the hell out of your expensive door, costing you money. The glass doesn't wear like paint or wood stain. A storm door will also improve your insulation.
She lists cream as "coffee creamer". Cream is... well, cream. From a cow. For coffee there's light cream and half-and-half (cream and milk combined for less fat.). "Creamers" are all NON -dairy products.. NO cream at all. They use vegetable based oils to get a "creamy" texture. There are powdered and liquid creamers in many flavors. Some are reduced fat.
Vegetable oils, except for a few good ones, are lethal.

There is another problem with online transfers to pay bills in the US. Many companies charge a "convenience fee" for paying online (I have seen it range from $1.95 to $3.95), whereas a check only costs postage and an envelope, maybe $0.70. I still sometimes do it for the convenience, but the fee is deplorable.
The only time I see fees for paying online is if you use a credit card, and even then only my rent does that. If you use your checking account's routing number (like I do), I've not paid a fee for paying online. I guess I depends on who you're paying?
Credit/debit card processors also charge a small fee for every transaction made. I know of a bakery in my city which has never accepted electronic payments in the 42 years they have been open due to that fact. A charitable organization I belong to has recently purchased the hardware for a card processing option. It's called a Square. The processing fee we will pay the processor is $0.23 on every purchase. Some local businesses are reluctant to add this charge to their goods or services.
plus you can't kite online payments
When you have crazy weather like we have in the US, you will realize the need for a storm door.
Storm doors also allow the front door to be open without letting in cool or hot air. We can see outside, let the light in, and lock the door as well. Storm doors help mute noise, protect the front door and entry way from the elements. Many storm doors have the option to remove the glass and pop in the screens according to seasons. Also, there's a pneumatic spring gadget that attaches to the door and the door frame which closes it automatically. It has an adjustment that allows us to keep the door open with a simple adjustment when needed, like when bringing in groceries or packages.
Andre, the flavored Philadelphia cream cheese is good, but if you go to a bagel shop or deli in America you can find store made cream cheese with more flavors than you can even imagine. I live near a place that makes an amazing cinnamon apple walnut cream cheese from scratch. You can eat it with a spoon right from the container if you’re craving sweets.
I put cream cheese on any bread or cracker.
We Americans don’t usually throw away something that works just because something new comes along. So checks work. For some things, nothing works better.
The storm doors are there to protect your wood door and the paint on it. Also, you can open the wood door to let in light, while leaving the storm (glass) door closed and the bugs, or heat, or cold, or rain out.❤️🐝🤗
I love watching foreigners react to my culture!
A lot of drinking fountains were phased out during the pandemic due to shared germs.
An advantage of screen doors & storm doors is deliveries. When I lived in an apartment complex where my door opened outside, merchandise I ordered would be placed between the doors, so that a thief had to actually open the outer door to steal it. When the complex remodeled the building exteriors, the outer doors went away. So many packages developed legs & walked off (a metaphor for being stolen off my porch) that I had to switch to having deliverines sent to a cousin whose front porch was uphill from the street.
Also, since my windows were very hard to open, I opened the front door & kept the screen door locked. Not only did it allow fresh air & keep the bugs up, but also the stray cats! I once watchef a homeless cat hop through the bottom panel missing a mesh screen. There was a scream from the renter, & the cat came racing out, followed by a towel wrapped woman who'd probably been in the bath.
Bagels weren't part of my diet until my high svhool class started offering bagel sales. The reason that bagels are scarce in Germany is that they're a Jewish bread; & the US got a large influx of Jews fleeing Europe in WWII. Cincinnati is one of the inland cities they settled. A blueberry bagel is made like raisin bread: you mix the fruit in the batter, shape it, then bake it. I don't like cream cheese, so eat mine plain. My favorite bagels are plain bagels & egg bagels (which have a more yellow color because of the egg in the batter.)
Storm doors are made almost entirely of glass. It's so you can open the wooden outside door and be able to look outside and brings in lots of light. They're used in cooler weather while the screen doors are used in warm weather.
A screen door in the summer converts into a storm door in the winter. Dual purpose.
Yes, you can generally swap the glass for a screen. Some glass has a sliding mechanism with a screen behind it, like double-hung windows but thinner.
@@LiveFreeOrDieDH
We just got new storm doors with the screens built in: door has two equal panes of glass top and bottom, but reach up and pull down the top pane over the bottom, and the screen follows it down from its place hidden in the door’s top frame-really handy beim Lüften…
The storm doors don't add to the structural integrity of the door. It protects the door from surface damage from exposure to the weather.
Two doors provides a thermal break. If you only have a single door heat will leach through the door outside or the heat will get into your house easier.
I don't know anyone who doesn't absolutely hate those drug ads. Yes, it really is that bad. They're all over the airwaves, they're long, and they go on and on with the possible side effects. It wasn't always like this! When I was growing up, prescription drug ads were illegal.
I stopped to use one of the blood pressure machines at Walmart last week. I had to sit through a drug commercial before the machine took my pressure.
@@maureenshoevlin8968🤦🏼♀️
So they aren't functionally any different from any other annoying ad then? In fact, they are often better than other ads because they usually don't have a massive volume jump and are usually just a person talking.
Storm doors protect the outer surface of the main door, the paint or finish, from being damaged. Places with frequent strong winds and precipitation will tend to have storm doors.
Checks. The county of my residence in the US charges 2.5% to citizens who make electronic payments, so we pay with checks
I pay online free with the checking account and routing number.
I'm a landlord. The reason we want rent payments in checck form and mailed is because the postage mark on the envelope is government proof of the day you paid rent. So in a court case, there is no "he said she said". The post mark proves to the court that you were late on rent. The reason we want a check is so, again there is documentation of the amout you paid. If you try to pay with cash, the tenant can claim they paid the full amount and there is nothing to prove otherwise. It's all about documentation if (or more likely, when) you go to court to have a tenant evicted.
I'm in California and all of my landlords have requested to be paid by check and our county taxes are paid by check. Also I work for a painting company and 95% of our payments are by check and mailed to us, by the customer's choice. They have the option of paying via our online portal, but they choose to pay by check instead. I handle checks every day. However, it is true that you will not see people writing out checks at the supermarket like you did 20 years ago.
I had a very sketchy landlord years ago who insisted on being paid in cash.
I write checks every single time a company or govt (hello property taxes) wants to charge consumers what is supposed to be the MERCHANT fee for using a credit card. They rename it a "convenience fee" when they are the ones being "convenienced" by not having to manually process checks. I refuse to pay the 3-4% Merchant fee for them, so I have a checkbook and I use it! When I'm in stores, dentist, etc. and they want to pass THEIR fee on to the customer, I pay cash or write a check.
I worked in corporate banking for years and getting companies, letting individuals to pay electronically was a challenge. I think it was about 2006 (ish) before the number of electronic payments in the US exceeded the number of checks (in the US its "check", not "cheque".
Totally agree with you on landlords, but when I rented my last apartment in 2003, I asked if I could pay via transfer. I told it was likely I would be traveling and this ensures you get paid timely. Reluctantly he gave me his bank acct info and I got it set up. I was in that unit 12 years, at about the 8 year marked, he contacted on something, but also mentioned that direct deposit (payment) thing is great. I don't have to do anything and the money is in my account! 😂🙄 So it's possible (yes, it was in CA!)
I actually pay some small local companies in either check or cash. Some give discounts, since credit card fees do add up. It's funny because right now I use more checks/cash then maybe 4-5 years ago.
I can't remember the last time I wrote a check.
I can't stand her. You still need a prescription from a doctor; you can't just go buy it. She's so self-righteous.
Also ignores the fact that US patients basically subsidize foreign patients in countries with price caps.

A storm door usually allows more light to come into the house. We can leave the "main" door (which is usually solid wood or metal) open and keep the "glass" door closed. Also, many storm doors can be made into "screen" doors in the summer and then the glass gets put back in during the winter for extra insulation. We also have a sliding screen for sliding glass doors. Wow - I must say I am really surprised that Europeans don't have these. They just seem so logical to me. BTW - I just used cream cheese to make a cherry cheese pie.

The law on prescription drug ads is that if you mention the benefits of the drug, you also have to list all of the potential side effects. So sometimes you get ads where it just shows people out doing stuff but doesn’t actually tell you what the drug is meant to treat. Then it says “ask your Doctor if Cyzzkrus is right for you”
I've never really thought about it before, but it does encourage people to talk to their doctors about options.
storm doors are about preservation. keeping your door dry goes a long way to preserving it, no matter what the quality of the door is.
As far as storm doors, Ohio is a lot colder in the winter than Portugal. Additional insulation matters.
We've had flavored coffees for a few decades now
In the "70's we had 'international flavored coffees"
a bagel is bread that is first boiled, then baked. They are really good with cream cheese, smoked salmon etc.
You need to add red onion and capers to that bagel for the best experience.
Checks aren’t commonly used in the US normally. But you can run into older men and women who prefer them. And if they’re in charge of your rent, then yeah. You have to pay according to what they say. I did also have this experience when renting an apartment in a building mostly filled with older people. They like and are more familiar with checks and can get set in their ways.
In the 60's and 70's it was a ritual every spring to change the storm windows and storm doors to screen windows and screen doors, and then in fall to change them back for winter. The front door didn't have a screen/storm door (which was used only for company) but the side door did. The door stayed the same and the glass was switched out with the screen, but all the windows were completely separate from the screens and they were lined up in the garage to be switched every spring and fall. Each window had two heavy hooks above that the windows had brackets to fit into, and then a hook and eye on the inside on the bottom to hook it closed (the house was built in 1928). In the middle of the 70's we got aluminum-framed storm windows that also had screens and they were permanently attached, and they were operated up and down the same as the sash windows. That's what is still common now, with some variations. The glass storm windows and doors helped tremendously in the winter protecting from drafts and keeping the cold out, and protecting the inner windows from the weather.

Water fountains are disappearing because no one cleans them. The tap water may be OK but the taps and sinks in bathrooms and the plumbing may be questionable. The reason checks are still a thing is because the credit card company (debit cards are backed by credit cards) charge the business between 2 - 4% of the amount of the charge. I've seen people intentionally mess with them. My school had a kid that got caught peeing in the water fountain just because he thought it would be funny

The pharmaceutical companies have paid off the government to allow these commercials to raise sales. They have also given a kickback to the doctors to prescribe more of the medication even if it isn't needed. The advertisements should be banned.
Some adults are able to research a drug and knows whether or not they need a certain drug. Consumers aren't stupid. And if you have a doctor who has sense, he's not going to prescribed a

screen/storm door also allows you to interact with someone at your door and maintain a physical barrier to entry.
You can't get the medication without a prescription from a doctor. You can't just go to a pharmacy and purchase.
not all advertised drugs are prescription.

I don't like those Ad's at all, there are a lot of things I could say about them the least worrying is her reason why they are not good things. There is big money in Big Pharma, these guys even send reps to the doctors and try to make sales to the doctors to put their patience on their meds over others or even if not needed in some cases seriously. There was a problem with doctors getting cuts at one point which they say is illegal now however what's not illegal is for the Pharma company to pay for Doctors to visit and island paradise for a weekend and have a "meeting about why the Doctors should prescribe their drugs ect." So there is alot of corruption even though you get a dirty look when bringing this up because a lot of the public are not brave enough to consider the realistic chances the illusion they have created for themselves about the health industry may just be that illusions which keep them feeling safer.
The storm door ( all glass ) is meant to increase insulation in addition to giving the option of allowing sunlight in with a closed opening.
Flavored cream cheese is pretty amazing. Slap some on a bagel.
I would find it very interesting to watch you react to some of the "Adam Ruins Everything" or "Jubilee" videos that have cultural themes, like people with disabilities or the history of suburbs (or really whatever interests you :D ). Thank you for making your content, you are a bright spot in the internet that brings sunshine to many!
According to Wikipedia: A bagel is a bread roll originating in the Jewish communities of Poland. Bagels in America are many times associated with Jewish cuisine such as a very common breakfast meal: bagels & loks, which is a bagel topped with cream cheese, smoked or brined salmon, red onions, capers, and optional fresh dill. Online, I found many bagel shops in Berlin, Germany. Maybe the lack of bagels in one's life is more a function of WHERE you live and what communities you live near?
Storm doors can be an added level of security, also. Since they lock, you can answer the door and talk to the visitor while the storm door is still locked. In fact, they make storm doors with security in mind.
Most screen doors are also storm doors. In the summer, you open the glass, exposing the screen, allowing the air to flow. In the winter, you close the glass, giving extra weather and heat protection.
Get better doors? Our doors are fine, and expensive. When they are exposed to rain, wind and snow they may need repainting or even replacement over time. Weather conditions can be brutal in the US, as you well know. "Storm" doors are an extra barrier to keep out the cold AND the heat. I live in Florida. We often have weeks of incredibly hot weather. I have storm doors on both entrances as added insulation from the heat.
I'm American, born and raised and I AGREE WITH YOU. Medical advertising should NEVER be allowed to be shown to the general public. Many years ago, this was not allowed in the US. The problem is with the drug manufacturers. They became crazy greedy for sales and gained enough power to overrule anything against them from the US government. So they are largely uncontrolled today.
Gotta love it when someone has only ever visited/ lived briefly in one small part of one of fifty states, but thinks she knows everything about how the whole country is.
She shows how young and ignorant she is.
What part of the lower 48 isn't like what she said?

She’s lived in the U.S. for many years. Once again, ur just an ignorant American who thinks they know it all.
Water/drinking fountains were popularized over a hundred years ago, when temperance groups started installing them to provide alternate sources of clean hydration other than alcoholic beverages. Before public water systems began to be widely available, readily available and free water was hard to find in cities and towns. Even after cities began pumping water throughout the infrastructure, finding some when you were out and about could be difficult, unless you were willing to pay for a sit-down meal with a beverage.
ummm no. Checks have your account number AND bank routing number at the bottom. The ONLY time I used checks was to pay rent before I purchased my home. It was cheaper to use a check as the apartment building charged 5% for using a credit card (because the credit card companies charge the vendor). Other than that, people use their ATM or credit cards. Or do money transfers with an app of choice like Apple Pay.
I thought the same thing. I hope someone in her comments informed her that her checks have the account and routing numbers on them.
We Americans do put cream cheese on any type of bread or crackers. We do not require it on bagels.
I love this channel. It is so funny seeing how you react to things we take for granted and makes me appreciate my country even more. Thank you .
I like the Philadelphia Cream Cheese with Smoked Salmon.
Softened cream cheese mixed with dry Ranch dip mix (not dressing mix, shredded cheddar and FINELY diced red and green peppers. Spread on a tortilla then rolled up and wrapped to chill in the fridge so the cream cheese can firm back up. Finally slice into pin wheels
I do not know how to slice into pinwheels . . .
Still watching. Best wishes from Tennessee 😊🇺🇸
Scallion cream cheese on an ‘Everything Bagel’ used to be my “go to.”
Blueberry cream cheese is incredible
Agree and on a strawberry or blueberry bagel
Storm door can be extra security door. Got to get thru storm door first
when i moved into my house some years ago i did buy several items which i felt was a must; a storm door for the front which does have a screen that all i have to do is lower the glass to allow fresh air in, also a screen for my sliding glass door
I love seeing your reactions. You crack me up. Thank you for your American love and honest reactions. Keep it up. A couple notes:
1- Bagels with flavored cream cheese is wonderful. I love the fruit bagels with fruit cream cheese with slices of fruit. For example a blueberry bagel, strawberry cream cheese, and with slices of strawberries, bananas, or other fruits on top. Delicious!
2- The glass storm doors (I still call them screen doors), do offer storm protection, but I have never thought of them that way. They also act like a large window. So if you want more natural light and/or to see out doors you open your main door and keep the glass door closed. Just like a window. But when you want increased privacy you close your main door.
Haha I think every American has tried blueberry cream cheese and blueberry bagels. It is super normal here. Cinnamon raisin bagels, onion bagels, Asiago cheese bagels, bagels with garlic sesame seeds poppy seed and onions on, we got it all.
Fun fact - most blueberry bagels are made with apple bits colored and artificially flavor with blueberry flavor. Unlike muffins, bagel crumb is too dense to use the berries.
Everything bagels with plain cream cheese. Can't miss combo
That Cinnamon Crunch bagel from Panera is 🔥.

Actually, there are 6 time zones in the U.S. - Eastern, Central -1, Mountain -2, Pacific -3, Alaska -4 , Hawaii -6 hours from eastern time zones
You forgot US Territories. Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 is on Atlantic Standard time and Guam 🇬🇺 is on Chamorro Standard time. A difference of 16 hours. 😮
Cream Cheese on Bread - I was born and raise in New Jersey on a Dairy Farm, across the river from Philadelphia and not too far from New York (the name "Philadelphia" was a marketing ploy, the product was created in New York), and We've always put cream cheese on a lot of different things. Cream Cheese is def not just for bagels, so her friends are the ones who are a little weird.
love the stuff on your background! it's really fun
Flavored creamer and flavored cream cheese is a MUST! Whenever I fly ( in Austin's Airport heading back to Phoenix) I always get a raising cinnamon bagal with strawberry creem cheese to eat in the plane. (Only a 2.5 hour trip so it helps at that half way mark)
Item #1: They have to say "Ask your doctor about…" because you can't buy them without a prescription. And that's exactly why Ads for prescription medicine should not be allowed here, either. All it does is encourage untrained people to go nag their trained doctors - and it encourages doctors to get kickbacks from the pharmaceutical companies, who also bought off the politicians so they could air those ads.
I don't like arbitrary government overreach attempting to controlling my life.
I totally agree, I work in health care. the last thing any doctor wants to hear is how you know better because you saw an ad.
Doctors are already inundated with drug salesman, some offering sweet perks btw... that and the television ads should be illegal.
and why prescriptions cost so much.
It's not the doctors getting kickbacks but the hospitals and insurance companies. The doctors can only do what these two organizations allow them to.
Don't kid yourself most doctors have to look up on a computer what medicine to prescribe you. As if they know them all - some times you can be more informed than them. They just choose the one at the top of their list or what is most popular. Blindly accepting a doctors recommendation is foolish.
Yeah, water fountains prevent the accumulation of plastic bottles.
A "storm" door also helps to insulate your house from heat or cold.
In much of the northeast and some Midwest, where they get a lot of snow, they have mud rooms (See Lost in the Pond), which is sort of an insulating room where you usually store your outdoor gear (boots and coats) so you are not tracking in mud or snow. Storm doors are a mini version to shelter from the weather part.
She's so wrong about checks. The account number is literally on the check, so her reasoning is way off. Also, she must be dealing with really old school people. I couldn't tell you the last time I wrote a check. She definitely screwed up if she got an IRS refund via check. You can definitely get it via online banking. She just doesn't know what she's doing, as per usual.
I’m not fond oh Feli, she is such a whiny little thing.
She’s young, which I shouldn’t hold against her, but geez. My first trip to Europe I was shocked the train station toilets only had holes in the floors, and it was Switzerland for heaven’s sake. My third trip was to Munich. Only thirty years ago, the showers were awful, the rooms were cold, there were no ATMs, and there were a whole bunch of places that wouldn’t take credit cards. I loved Munich, and I’m glad they are more modern now, but before she complains about the US, she should talk to her parents or something. And in everyone of her videos she complains about the US. 🤦🏼
I like your background better than hers. It shows your personality!
Only 30? Also I don’t know where you and all the other likers of that comment heard her complaining bout the US but ok? 🤥
@@abrahamirl21 - She always does, perhaps you should listen a tad more actively.
And if you think 30 was a long time ago (although, I might be reading into that comment), then perhaps you should look into history. If that is not what op you intended to imply, then you might have been a little more specific, but I will apologize for not understanding what you meant.
It's better to have a check to pay for a bigger job, like if someone were to repair your house in some way, you pay with a check so that person has an actual physical payment.
That person takes it to the bank when he wants, which usually can take 1 or 2 weeks and that means you still have your money in your bank until that moment. It's like a delayed payment instead of instant. It's good.
In the Midwest, storm doors are very necessary. Having two doors provides a buffer for keeping out the winter storm weather. Most have the option to convert the storm door to a screen door, to allow the cooler outdoor breezes to come in.
I like your background that shows your personality and likes!
This looks interesting. Haven't watched yet. I'll be going through it point by point in this comment. Let's see what she has for us today.
1) Prescription Ads.
Yeah, those are real, but honestly most people under 55-60 years old don't even see television commercials anymore. We use streaming, ad blockers etc. Even before that, we had DVRs like TeVo that allowed you to skip commercials. Most Americans under the age of 45 have actually NEVER paid for a cable TV subscription (76% as of 2023). The few exceptions are sports fans (some cable channels have exclusive deals to cover specific teams, etc). And some people get it bundled with their internet. But all TV ads these days skew to the Senior Demographic, or very young children. And Seniors are the prime market for prescription medications, so there are a LOT of those ads, especially mid-day. I find it odd as well, and think we should ban such ads, but realistically, that isn't going to happen any time soon.
By Law, they actually have to list more cons than pros in those commercials, so you get a long list of side-effects, which is kind of funny. But for every good thing they say, they have to disclose at least one potentially bad thing too, so it is very unusual for a commercial, and would seem incredibly odd to someone from outside the U.S.
2) Regional Ads
Yes and No... Again, the age demographic is skewed, and most of us either never see commercials at all, or have the ability to skip them 99% of the time. But regional ads do exist. A big network will leave ad gaps which a local affiliate who distributes the signal to a specific region can plug in their own ads. Local ads actually generate a lot of revenue. Imagine a local car dealership for example. They wouldn't want to advertise to people 2,000 miles away, so national ads are not helpful to them at all. But there are thousands of dealerships who all want to reach just their local demographic, and they pay a higher rate for that. So they save money individually by going with a more targeted ad, but all those local ads collectively end up paying the network orders of magnitude more. There's huge money in local advertising.
3) Flavored Coffee / Creamer.
Yes, it exists. It probably shouldn't, but it does, lol. The truth is we drink so much coffee, if everyone drank good coffee, there wouldn't be any left in the world. The flavoring allow these companies to sell lower quality beans that are often much more bitter and have weaker aromas. They can cover that up with flavorings and make a lower quality coffee drinkable. Starbucks isn't famous for good coffee, they have good syrup to add to the coffee, lol.
The Creamer is just a byproduct of people getting used to the flavored coffee and wanting to recreate that flavor.
More options for everyone, so that's fine. Everyone can drink whatever they want.
4) Sweet Cream Cheese
We have it, it's good. It's like cheesecake. It's not my go-to option, I don't buy it in the store, but if it's served, I'll enjoy it. You CAN buy it here, it's very common. I think she said she's in Ohio though... not the place you go for food, lol.
Germany does have Bagels, that's where we got it from. Although, the best quality Bagels are found in Jewish Bakeries... so, yeah.... maybe that's why they're more common here now, lol.
5) Water Fountians
This depends on your region. In Arizona they're all over the place. Here in NY, they're rare to find. There usually is one in most major stores, tucked away in some corner, but they exist.
6) Checks
This is virtually obsolete. They are still used in business to business transactions. Personal checks still exist, but mostly because there are consumer protections against checking fraud specifically built into our laws. You don't see a lot of people using them in daily life. Occasionally you'll see some 190 year old lady in the grocery store checkout line writing a personal check before loading up her horse-drawn buggy, lol. It's antiquated. They exist, but it's just a relic of the past. They were very common when I was growing up through, up until about '94-'95. I still have a checkbook I got with my bank account, I've never used a single check from it, and I've had that account for decades.
One of the main reasons they still exist here is that we transact lots of business in other countries, and there is no universal banking system yet. More methods of payment means more options. Try sending money to Tanzania for example, it's a pain in the ass, lol. You can do that with a check because banks will honor it.
7) Screen and Storm doors.
Yep, they're awesome. The main door opens inward, the storm door opens outward. If you've ever opened a door only to find there is 6' of snow piled up outside, you'll appreciate them real quick. The snow doesn't just fall into the house. Granted, it's a pain in the ass to open them, but most U.S. houses have multiple exits, and snow piled like that is usually wind-blown, so the doors on the other side of the house will be clear.
I would add on #6 - I'm "older" (not quite a Senior) but am completely comfortable with online payments, using Venmo with my friends, etc. HOWEVER, I refuse to pay "convenience fees" to any company or govt agency for paying online. Do you know how much a 3% fee is on property taxes? A LOT of $$$!! No one is getting extra money from me when cc's are more convenient for them (not having to manually process a check). So I happily mail my taxes by check, bring a check to my dentist's office (only way to avoid the fee), and bring cash to stores that want to charge me their merchant fee for using a cc (I'm not insane - you won't see me holding up a line to write a check!, lol)
Love your background! Cool to see all the things on display that you enjoy!
Storm doors do protect from direct weather, but also provide an air space for insulation which helps reduce hot/cold temperature exchange. And yes, most have windows on tracks that can open to let you use it as a screen door. It also allows you to tip the window out for cleaning.
No bagels in Germany.?.. wonder why 🫤
I did Nazi that joke coming
They don't have pretzels either. lol
Storm door reason; we were experiencing our 2nd hurricane in a month. The stop sign from across the road was yanked from its pole and embedded into the front door during one particular gust. If I had a storm door, it would’ve saved me around $800. Does that make sense to you now ? We have some insane climate compared to you.
In truth, the storm had stripped the shingles and it was raining in the living room all night, so the door was a minor event. Besides, the refrigerator from 6 houses down made a bigger noise when it wrapped itself around the tree in the front yard(kind glad I didn’t get to experience that hitting the house). Anyway, storm doors can be handy.
why so salty?
Love your backgrownd andre!!! I have always noticed your comic books, etc.!
