I was privileged to see Paul Lynde in an act opening for a theater production of the Odd Couple with all the original cast in Pennsylvania back in the mid-70s. Always loved him! Thanks for uploading!
I remember Paul Lynde saying that his mother never cooked anything that was considered healthy. He said: "If it was green she'd cream it!" To say Paul Lynde was funny is a gross understatement. The man was hilarious!
Pat Carroll is the only one of them who's still living. I really miss Paul Lynde. He was absolutely one-of-a-kind. Everyone cites his appearances on "Hollywood Squares", but he was also hysterically funny on both "Bewitched" and on his very own series (which can be viewed on TH-cam--why they din't renew it is beyond me). When he and Agnes Moorhead went at it as Uncle Arthur vs. Endora... well, it doesn't get much better than that! LOL
I think it was impossible not to laugh whenever Paul Lynde was involved. He had such a unique comical character, he was also a very intelligent human being as well.
It seems Pat Carroll knew (and probably everyone else on the show too) that Paul was gay. That's why she laughed hysterically when he said "I know it's hard to believe" he was playing a father in the show. He always gave little hints that he was gay but it mostly went over everyone's head.
I noticed when Paul was announced, everyone on the panel applauded politely. I wondered who the person on the end was who rudely didn't even look up or acknowledge Paul's entrance. I wasn't the least bit surprised when I saw that it was Henry Morgan, probably one of the most miserable TV personalities of the 1960s and 70s. At the end when Paul's accomplishment was mentioned, everyone again applauded on the panel, but Morgan just stared seemingly uninterested. Henry Morgan was despicable and rude.
Paul was intelligent and probably was bored with most people who were fake and ordinary. He did the best he could during the times he was living in. And did better than most people at the time.
I believe Paul was surpressing his sexuality and ate from the stress of living with that secret. He never seemed happy and looked uncomfortable going on about it here. xo, Paul...RIP.
How ironic Paul and Meredith didnt get to see 60, and Pat Carroll is still with us well into her 90' s Genetics and being happy aren't blessed upon us all.
I know he used to be an asshole in private life, especially when drunk, but on screen, i just like the guy. May you rest in peace Paul Lynde, you funny bastard!
I grew up in this era as a bit of a chubby kid. If the other kids made fun of me, I usually laughed it off, even though inside I was fuming! It would only motivate me to get more exercise, or not have that bowl of cereal in the middle of the night. I was a horrible eater. My Mother was a fantastic cook, but I preferred to eat pb&j sandwiches, cookies and cereal! He really is right and implies that good and healthy eating should be something you are doing so it's not a shock when you go off it. These days, this would be considered fat shaming. Which for me, and in my time, was actually a good thing.
Wow--Paul Lynde and Henry Morgan on the same program! Both were terrific wits and (in their personal lives) cranky curmudgeons; but they're from another era.
Those were the best times. As time moved on into the early 1980s, we lost so much of our freedoms. I never remember worrying about money, and I could always find a job or some way to make money. We also were not at each other's throats the way people are now, and we were friends with everyone, not just people that "looked like us."
lisabolo26 Yes Lisa, I think that everyday. It is so sad. I loved the 1970's, less the fake energy crisis and the Vietnam War, other than that, it was a much better time.
his later years....he died when he was 55...being gay back then was probably the hardest thing you ever had to do in the society that he lived....he was intelligent and clearly before his time so his experiences with people must have been either horrible or just plain boring....sad he should have lived now...he would have enjoyed himself....love you Paul.....rip sweet boy
Sandra Lee well he was a nasty person when he drank even some of his best friends said so but cant say he wasn't a genius..maybe his rage came from him being gay in those times and he certainly coins the term queen..so it was hard for him to be who he truly was...they would put him in sitcoms as father and married which was kind of ironic..nonetheless he will always stand out as a comic genius and revisited by many thru his genius

Ooohh, are you lucky! That’s fantastic. 👏🏼
Paul's laughter is infectious.
Paul had a very sharp mind and tongue, he's unique in comedy history.
Indeed! He was a rare comedic talent!
jonnybbiker high IQ! I adore him!!! And Steve's too funny omg!
A lot of people don't realize Roger from American Dad! is completely based off of Paul
I can remember when i wanted to stay home from school so i could watch hollywood squares in the seventies!
The days when comedians were actually funny! God, what I'd give to have that back!
The good old days of Game Show Network. I miss those days. Thanks for sharing this
Paul was so great! I love how Pat enjoyed seeing him!
I remember Paul Lynde saying that his mother never cooked anything that was considered healthy. He said: "If it was green she'd cream it!" To say Paul Lynde was funny is a gross understatement. The man was hilarious!
This show was based on What's My Line and Steve Allen was on the panel. Paul Lynde was an amazing comedian. Truly ahead of his time. RIP
MindoverMS He surely was ahead of his time!
So true! He is definitely my favorite person ever. I wish hadn't passed so soon in his life.
@MINDoverMS this a “reincarnated” version of I've Got A Secret which aired for the 1972-73 season.
Gary Moore was the host of I've Got A Secret in the 50's and then Steve Allen hosted it. Then Steve took it over in the 70's.
Pat Carroll is the only one of them who's still living. I really miss Paul Lynde. He was absolutely one-of-a-kind. Sadly Miss Carroll is now no longer with us. :(
Pat Carroll passed away in 2022 at age 95. She was a funny and fantastic television and Broadway actress.
I LOL'd at Paul's comeback to Richard's imitation of him, "It's Alan Sues".
I used to get them confused 😅
I think it was impossible not to laugh whenever Paul Lynde was involved. He had such a unique comical character, he was also a very intelligent human being as well.
It's always fun to see Richard Dawson do his Paul Lynde imitation on Match Game!
I was just going to say, he does it spot on.
@@miss_midge_ Wonder if Paul ever watched Match Game when Richard Dawson was a panelist.
Paul Lynde way back in the early 1970s identified obesity as a disease. He was so far ahead of his time.
Paul Lynde, so funny and sexy. I wish he had lived to see how times have changed. RIP, my junior high school crush.
Definitely funny and sexy
I have never seen this so thank you very much. The man just makes you laugh no matter what and I thought Pat Carroll was going to fall out her chair.
that voice made him so famous.
It seems Pat Carroll knew (and probably everyone else on the show too) that Paul was gay. That's why she laughed hysterically when he said "I know it's hard to believe" he was playing a father in the show. He always gave little hints that he was gay but it mostly went over everyone's head.
No. People would not mention it because it would have destroyed his career.
It was very much an "open secret" in Hollywood.
I was thinking more that everyone knew but didn't care because he was funny and snarky.
Paul Lynde was great
Paul Lynde was a comic genius. There'll never be another one like him. The blonde lady on the panel looks so familiar, but I can't recall who she is.
I think she was Peggy Cass
Oh I see comment was 2 yrs ago, I'm a little late here
Meridith McCrae from petticoat junction 😀
She was in petticoat junction!
Pat Carroll laughing is too funny.
Pat knew Paul was gay and that's why she was laughing so much when he said he plays a father in his show.
SHE WAS A VERY FUNNY WOMAN ON MAKE ROOM FOR DADDY FOR YEARS
I think everyone knew he was gay
The GREAT Paul Lynde
It was Pauls voice that made him famous.
Paul was loved by all his buddy’s
I noticed when Paul was announced, everyone on the panel applauded politely. I wondered who the person on the end was who rudely didn't even look up or acknowledge Paul's entrance. uh, Henry Morgan wasn't in this video...
Look again.
Yes he is. Who would you say that is at 1:25??
Yes, Henry Morgan the humorist (not to be confused with Harry Morgan the actor)
I'm thinking he was homophobic.
OMG That reply @4:00 Only Paul could mean so much by saying so little.
I miss the good old days.
Paul Lynde was so funny and always made me laugh and still laugh on old You Tube videos !
Paul rocks the comb over!
I like many I'm sure adored Paul.
Paul was intelligent and probably was bored with most people who were fake and ordinary. He did the best he could during the times he was living in. And did better than most people at the time.
Those were the days. When gay was interesting.
I think in Paul's case, it was from alcohol and smoking.
Pat Carroll is still alive! She is 92 (11/19/19)
And still alive now 95!
Died this summer 2022
I know he used to be an asshole in private life, especially when drunk, but on screen, i just like the guy. May you rest in peace Paul Lynde, you funny bastard!
I saw him in a bar in Madrid Spain back in the 70's , he was drunk and was very annoyed and a bit obnoxious that only a few people knew who he was.
jonnybbiker Fk u I heard ur an ahole gossiper!
I think paul used to drink his dinner more often than not
Yes.
2:22 - Does Steve say to Meredith "Nice to see you both" ???? (referring to her bosom) Anyone catch that??
John Browneyes No but that's Meredith Macrae I'm gonna review tho thanks John!
Ok...I thought he meant both Paul and Mere on the same show/ in the same room.
Oh, I wondered where Id left Pat Carroll
He cracked up at saying he played a father
pat caroll is a riot

they should put this game on buzzr
Wow--Paul Lynde and Henry Morgan on the same program! Both were terrific wits and (in their personal lives) cranky curmudgeons; but they're from another era.
318 Gentleman from the Devils brigade and Hogans Heroes.
Rare clip of the Allen-led I've got a Secret.
what happened to paul lynde
Notice the music at the end.
Wow! This was 1972! - I thought it would have been late 70s rather than early on.
I would love to see Henry Morgan in drag!
The music at the end: "This is the start of something good."
Paul was so funny. He MADE Hollywood Squares. Too bad he was a miserable alcoholic in his later years.
his later years....he died when he was 55...being gay back then was probably the hardest thing you ever had to do in the society that he lived....he was intelligent and clearly before his time so his experiences with people must have been either horrible or just plain boring....sad he should have lived now...he would have enjoyed himself....love you Paul.....rip sweet boy
vatonorteno why'd u have to say that! Maybe he was very depressed kook!
