This appears advice for deep water. With new shallow water season, you can cut up to 50% of your weight in decent wind or currents.
Ok. What reels and rods to use?
Hey guys I'm pretty sure that's the law in California, only two hooks. In the old days we used to rock cod fish with ten hooks. then it was four and now it's two. It's not the boats asking you only to use two hooks, they would rather you use more and limit out faster so they could get home sooner. All boats want you to catch your legal limit and no more tan that.
Ten hooks? Thats like commercial fishing!
I'm gonna put hook guards on all my friends hooks as a prank.

Thank you for posting. In your video you state that in California the maximum is two hooks per pole. I bought my 2015 fishing license and picked up a copy of the regs. On page 43 Section 28.65 it states "Any number of hooks and lines may be used in all ocean waters and bays." They list some exceptions but if I stay south of Point Conception and on shore can i use 3 or more hooks and several lines? Please advise....

All I know for sure is that you can only use two hooks on one line in Southern Cal. I'm pretty sure it's the same in No. Cal because we film up there every year and that what the skippers always say. from a boat I don't think there is a limit of the number of rods you can fish with, but I'm not sure about that.
sport-fishing.com Just got off the phone with CDFG. Unless you are fishing for salmon or other protected fish, there are no restrictions on the amount of hooks or lines we can use in the ocean....
sport-fishing.com I usally fish out of Hooks Landing (805) 382-0402 out of Oxnard and others. I have always been told the same thing 2 hooks per line. Is this a universal boat rule? Its not in the regs....
dlvmark I read that the restrictions for rockfish are different, and you can only use two hooks for rockfish. That's why you can use an Alabama rig for calicos and stuff even though it has 5 hooks.
Con Cos Thanks that clears it up. Istill think that more then 2 hooks are ok for rock fish but dont fish for ling, cabezon or kelp and rock greenlings... I good with two hooks on a boat and multiple on shore. It was a little confusing at first, thanks for clearing this up.
