They are not ahead of their time, they were the time. They're the ones who could actually sing and lent their talents to more popular and visually pleasing acts. This was them blowing the roof off the place. This song was huge!
Exactly this was the sound of the time. Respectfully, BP, sometimes a song is just a song. I don’t hear you complaining about male bands and artists from the same era if they had scantily clad women in it. Not an attack on you, bro. But the vocals were great. Made a fun time for us at the dances.
We danced our butts off to this! We had a club on Sunday nights that was come as you are and I’m serious when I say most of us had just come from the lake. We’d been sailing, 18’ Hobie Catamaran in my case or water skiing and smelled like sweaty coconut! We cooked out and smelled like BBQ smoke but who cared!!! Guys went in bathing suits and tank tops and girls went in their bathing suits. I wore my bikini and a pair of very loved (old) short short cutoff jeans shorts, my bikini top and maybe borrow a tank from my boyfriend. We’d party and dance and no one was expecting a fashion show cause it was come as you are! It was a different time. We were good young people just having fun with our friends. We all showed up to school or work the next morning not necessarily feeling that great due to the weekend of sun, sunburns and a few drinks but we still were responsible and showed up and then fell into bed right after we got off! It was a wonderful fun time that truly can’t be explained or repeated. I’m grateful it was my era and it’s especially great to see you (for example) giving it a shot at learning what earlier generations got to enjoy and realizing that behind the now much older, more wrinkled faces are fun people. Martha Wash & Izora Armstead were the backup duo for Sylvester in the 70s, best known for his hit “You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real).” This song was the Weather Girls’ only song to hit the pop charts, topping out at #46, but clearly its impact has grown way beyond that! The Weather Girls had a handful of songs that were hits on the Club charts. Martha Wash would later become known as the singer for several hits but wasn’t credited on them. The group Black Box had the songs “Everybody Everybody” and “Strike It Up” featuring her singing. Videos for the song and live performances featured a model lip syncing her vocals. There was a lawsuit and they settled out of court for not giving her any credit. Probably most notably, some demo vocals of hers were used as the hook on “Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)” by the C&C Music Factory and the video featured a model lip synching the vocals. Deja vu, Martha Wash wasn’t given credit again. Another lawsuit, another settlement. Clearly, being a bigger woman worked against her despite having an amazing voice.

The duo was renamed The Weather Girls in 1982 after they released the top-selling single "It's Raining Men", which brought them to mainstream pop attention. The Weather Girls released five albums and were heavily featured on Sylvester's albums. After disbanding in 1988, Wash transitioned to house music as a featured artist on several successful songs. Her success on the Billboard dance chart has earned her the honorific title The Queen of Clubland,[3][4] with a total of fifteen number-one songs on the chart to date. Wash is also noted for sparking legislation in the early 1990s that made vocal credits mandatory on CDs and music videos. Starting in the late-1980s, her studio vocals were used in several successful dance songs without her permission or proper credit. Models lip-synched to her voice in music videos and during live performances, obscuring Wash's contributions and hiding Wash's size as a full-figured woman.[5] As a result, she was denied credit and royalties for many of the songs she recorded. This included multi platinum-selling song "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)". Subsequently, in Rolling Stone, music critic Jason Newman described Martha Wash as "The Most Famous Unknown Singer of the '90s".[3] In December 2016, Billboard magazine ranked her as the 58th most successful dance artist of all time.
Brings back great memories of dancing on the speakers in the clubs in Hotlanta. Love this song. I am so glad you reacted to this. Your face was priceless!
One of the funniest vids I’ve ever seen😂😂. And it’s purposeful-they are making fun of themselves-not taking anything seriously at all. Love it!!! You can’t say it wasn’t entertaining 😂😂
Used to roller skate to this big time! Love this song and it brings back so many memories of the 80’s. I’ve got a great big smile on my face. Love your reactions, thanks for sharing.
I remember when they were "Two Tons Of Fun" ! ❤ They charted on the dance charts with other songs. This one was written by Paul Schaffer, band leader on SNL in the early years and David Letterman. He's an amazing musician.
I haven't read all the comments from everyone else, but I have to mention that in the first Magic Mike, this song was one of the first, if I remember right, that Channing Tatum and company danced to.
This is one of the most amusing music videos produced in the US. My oldest son was six when this came out and was in hysterical laughter every time it showed on tv (in Kenya). My daughter, then four, was disgusted and walked out in typical pre-school-age high dudgeon. 😅
Trenchcoat and a speedo? Prince wore exactly that on Midnight Special back in the late 70’s. The jockstrap (little less than a speedo) was purple velvet. He sang 1999 and Little Red Corvette. Fearless performer.
So fun, and this is the second reaction in as many days I've seen to this song... I don't think they had another because how do you top this??? LOL Thank you so very much :D I'd forgotten how funny this song is :D
This was one of the songs we'd crank on the radio and we'd be 5 teen girls stuffed in a VW convertible singing and laughing as we cruised the beach. It was so much fun. In fairness, it worked because it rained teen boys. The 80's were a different time. This was their biggest hit but they had a dozen or so throughout the 80's and 90's... I think even one or two in the 2000's.
They started out as a back up duo for Sylvester. Then went on their own as Two Tons O Fun, which was later changed to The Weather Girls! They were amazing and had to fight to get recognition on a lot of stuff they worked on!
If you believe that, you need to listen Salt-N-Pepa - "Shoop" and "Whatta Man (Official Music Video) ft. En Vogue". These are two other man-loving anthem.
Loved this back in the day, these girls can sing. And my little comment, all I want is to be treated like an equal human being. These ladies are proud of who they are, and are not second choice for anyone.
I believe they were originally called "Two Tons of Fun" but changed the name to match their hit song. Also, she's the voice of "EVERYBODY DANCE NOW" but didn't have the right look for that song, so she never got the credit.
I was in my thirties and a little too old (and a mom!) for the disco, but I sure remember bopping in my car to this one. It was hilarious, uplifting, danceable - and the video was so outrageously campy! Serious '80s vibe, a time when my then-husband's best friend (Steve, you nut...) insisted on taking us to a local, very popular male strip club just to see my reaction. Not my thing, really - but those were the times!!
They have over 20 albums, under 2 names - originally, they were called Two Tons 'O Fun - and while tjis was their only Top 40 radio hit single, they had a lot of songs that did very well in the Dance Charts. In 1983, they won a Grammy (for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocal). Over the years, the members of the group have changed several times.
They are not ahead of their time, they were the time. They're the ones who could actually sing and lent their talents to more popular and visually pleasing acts. This was them blowing the roof off the place. This song was huge!

That smile you get as soon as you see the thumbnail, because you know you’re in for a real treat…priceless 😊
I remember the 1st time I heard this song. My friends and I had this on our driving cassette. Yep, I'm that old and still love it. 😂😂
And as risque as this was, it got a huge amount of airplay on MTV (when they did actually play music)!
This song always made me smile.
What are you talking about?!!! I/We love you, men! And I love this song! I'm French and the song had a huge success in France,
I remember when they were "Two Tons Of Fun" !
I’ve always loved this song! The Weather Girls could wail!!! This is a fun song!❤
This is such a fun blast from the past. They have great voices. You do need to let Lady Pegasus watch this.
BP, the way females were portrayed in 80s videos, this was MILD!
A club classic that always turned the whole place out!
This is one of the most amusing music videos produced in the US. My oldest son was six when this came out and was in hysterical laughter every time it showed on tv (in Kenya). My daughter, then four, was disgusted and walked out in typical pre-school-age high dudgeon. 😅
OMG 😂 Awesome memories. Loved the reaction as always, just priceless 😂 God Bless
Love this!
Trenchcoat and a speedo? Prince wore exactly that on Midnight Special back in the late 70’s. The jockstrap (little less than a speedo) was purple velvet. He sang 1999 and Little Red Corvette. Fearless performer.
Always loved this song. So much energy. We always had it in Jazzercise. Nothing shocking or unusual at the time. A great song.
Great fun and clever lyrics. And those voices., wow.
Omg, in what an insane time we are living at, right now. Men in speedos are not acceptable? Poor USA.
LMAO😂🤣😅 I had never seen this video before - just heard the song in passing here or there, ya know? This was a HILARIOUS reaction and video review!!!
Never realised how funny this was before! Thanks BP!
Never knew this song actually had a video with it 🤣🤣🤣
So fun, and this is the second reaction in as many days I've seen to this song... I don't think they had another because how do you top this??? LOL Thank you so very much :D I'd forgotten how funny this song is :D
They were also known as two tones of fun. I loved this song when it cam out It was played all of the time on MTV and HT1
I love this song 🎶 always request it at dance 🪩 clubs. Love the throwback feeling
C.C. & The Music Factory, Black Box, Weather Girls.....Martha Wash is the Bomb.
Deserves to be in the R&R Hall of Fame.
They started out as a back up duo for Sylvester. Then went on their own as Two Tons O Fun, which was later changed to The Weather Girls! They were amazing and had to fight to get recognition on a lot of stuff they worked on!
This is right up there with the song "I Touch Myself"...bold, brave and in your face!!! 🎵🎼🎶🎸🎤🎙🎧🎹🥁🔥🔥🔥🔥
If you believe that, you need to listen Salt-N-Pepa - "Shoop" and "Whatta Man (Official Music Video) ft. En Vogue". These are two other man-loving anthem.
I love your reactions. Thank you
This is absolutely an amazing and fun song 🎵! This can just get you up and moving 🎉😊
I'm laughing so hard at your reaction. It was worth it.
Loved this back in the day, these girls can sing. And my little comment, all I want is to be treated like an equal human being.
These ladies are proud of who they are, and are not second choice for anyone.
I'm old enough to remember when this first came out!! I LOVED IT!!!!🤠💖
Perfection! The video and song is camp and utterly glorious!
I believe they were originally called "Two Tons of Fun" but changed the name to match their hit song. Also, she's the voice of "EVERYBODY DANCE NOW" but didn't have the right look for that song, so she never got the credit.
Great fun dance song back in the day actually celebrating men! ❤😊
I had to see your reaction to this fun and fantastic song!
Love this, some damn good looking men. Plus, they can really sing.
