  • Paul Gessner has some incredible tanks to show off in this latest video with Remy - including one of the most unique filtration techniques ever. This Eco-Wheel provides algae scrubbing, wet dry filtration, "selective" protein skimming, wave surging, calcium reactor, water cooling, and many other processes and runs off of ONE air pump. You can read all about it in our latest article that drops soon on Reef Builders: reefbuilders.com

    Jake would be proud - thanks for keeping RB alive, it’s one of the few places one can get good info and not solely marketing.

    Great video!❤ One thing Jake used to do at the end of videos where he visited someone’s reef tank was he would ask them for their one biggest piece of advice or guidance that they could offer to the viewers. Maybe something you could keep alive from the Jake era? Anyway, well done content and super interesting! Keep it up!

    Love that RB is bringing all these reefers together to keep jakes memories and education alive!

    I was lucky enough to actually see one of the bio wheel tanks actually in action. I don’t remember the exact year but somewhere around 98-99. It was a beautiful mixed reef in a shop in Nashville Tennessee. This was also the first time I saw a school of Banggai cardinalfish. The memory stuck with me. It’s a really cool design. Wish I had bought one.

    That's awesome. I have been running a bio wheel for years in my sump and have had good results I never realized I had it sitting under my grow light. I'll be installing a window on the lid of the wheel. Awesome!!!

    This would be an amazing opportunity and product that I'm surprised hasn't caught more attention and innovation. I've got enough parts and junk laying around I like I might attempt a simple prototype. When he said kind of like the old bio wheel I instantly thought of the old one oh the old eclipse hoods obviously upscaled. If if I've learned anything about being in the hobby for 20 years we reef heads are very innovative!

      I had a feeling wheels would be turning! (pun intended) Obviously there are some drawbacks to this piece of equipment but if it's gonna replace an entire sump AND it works? Seems like a good play for an algae scrubber company.

  • @jt4567
    @jt4567 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well, even this isn't required for biological filtration, the live rock can do all of that, except grow algae but sometimes that isn't necessary either. The term "Berlin System", which is what we are basically doing with our aquariums consists of only two things: Live rock and a protein skimmer. Many filter systems can last a long time, the problem is the manufacturers come out with things they say we need and their products aren't even around for more than a year. I had my 200 gallon aquarium going for 12 years on a wet/dry trickle filter and then a Berlin system for the remaining 18 years and then took the aquarium down after 30 years so for me it was two filter systems in 30 years.

    Uhmmmmm doesn't that wheel in a separate box outside the main display qualify as a sump 🤔
    or maybe I can take a "sump", relocate it above the tank, and it's no longer a sump...
