Honey you do not have to have children until you are ready or at all. My husband and I decided after a few years of being together that we didnt want children. We much like you enjoy lazy days and going on trips and our doggies (4). I am super awkward around kids too but I love my nieces and nephews and that's where I pour my motherly insticts. Enjoy the early years of your marriage, see the world, meet different people etc. before both of you decide to have kids. Kids change the dynamics if a relationship a lot. Take care!

I had pretty much made up my mind about not having kids early in my teens. When I met my husband I told him that if he wanted children that I was not the right girl for him. He was OK with it. After we got married we talked about children again, but by this point we had been living together for two years and had been married another year and we decided that we enjoyed each other's company and our own leisurely lifestyle and that children was not something we wanted to add to our lives. My mom was not happy at first, but I made it clear to her (respectfully) that this was not her decision to make and that our happiness as a couple was far more important than her "need" for another grandchild. She finally got over it when I wouldn't budge to any of her arguments on the point. We have turned our home into our escape from the world and coming home from work and closing the door behind me is the best feeling. Enjoy your lives and don't allow anyone to dictate to you on whether you need to have children or to make you feel selfish or guilty for not thinking like them.

Same here! My husband and I both decided we didn't want kids. He's 15 years older than I am, and we both just feel we're not the right people to be parents. I feel it's not selfish to say, "we wouldn't make good parents". It's responsible to admit to that and not inflict it on a kid to have to grow up with two people who aren't really fit to take care of a child.

  • @seltzermint5
    @seltzermint5 6 ปีที่แล้ว +407

I'm really scared to say this on the internet but seriously, kids aren't for everyone. At 41, I am so happy every single day that I didn't have children, and am not going to (even though I have plenty of friends having babies at 37-42) ...since I still feel the exact way you're describing.

I agree, not selfish at all. In fact, with the way the world is today, I sometimes think it's more selfish to bring innocent life into when they are bound to suffer just because you wanted to preserve your gene pool. I had a few congenital defects that didn't manifest until I was in my 20's and found out there was a long family history. When they started to adversely effect my health, I decided I would never do that to another person by having kids.

I have 3 kids. My first at the age of 30 (I'm 37 now) and the best advice I can give anyone is DON'T RUSH HAVING KIDS!!! I love my kids more than anything but once you have kids your personal goals take a back seat. 26 is VERY young. Accomplish as many goals as you can, travel, enjoy and grow your relationship with your husband before you have kids. I wish my husband and I had more time together before we had kids. I got pregnant 4 months after we got married! Enjoy this time because it goes so fast! Also, the only person you have to live up to is yourself! Comparing one's life to another's never helped anyone. Ok, I'm going into "mommy mode". Sorry about that. Be brave and keep going. 💖💖💖

I wouldn't say 26 is very young. I had my daughter at 23. It really depends on who you are, where you are at in life, what you want in life. People need to focus less on the something as silly and trivial as age, and more on the things that matter, like your maturity and wants.

    • @ashleyspratlin1811

@@whossoul I 100% agree with you. Although I know a lot of women have a thing about wanting their _own_ baby... time is not running out. Even if you wait until you can no longer have children, there are babies born every day who need a loving mom and dad.

Girl, treasuring your free time is NOT selfish, it is just real talk! As a single mom of two, let me tell you I have had to rearrange my whole brain structure to find my way out of the morass of all consuming parenting in order to find myself again and get started on squaring away time for my own dreams, as much as I adore my children, I need to be myself! It's a real journey trying to rediscover myself.

  • @kittycute4

Ohhh Rachel please don't stress yourself out on having kids or not, actually it's very responsible for you to think that you're not ready for kids and think about what you really want to provide for your kids! In Hong Kong, women will be blamed by their parents if they don't have kids before 30 years-old, many women, despite the lack of financial support, still decided to give birth to a baby before their 30s so that their husband and their mother-in-law will be "happy". Turns out a lot of young mothers here in HK are depressed and cannot provide the best to their children, some even think their children are a burden to them.
I think it's cute when a couple grow old, they sit next to each other and pat their dog/cat, maybe have a nice cup of tea together. So please don't feel bad if you don't want a child yet, you're still young and there are still a lot for you to explore!
We all love you, please take care and if you really need a break from TH-cam, we can wait!
(Please pardon my bad English, but I hope you understand what I meant)

Def don't give into the pressure of having kids, especially when you're in a place of limbo. There is seriously no shame in waiting or not having them at all. Take your time (like you're gonna be 26? still very young), wait until things become stable and you are comfortable if you do want to have them. Anyways, this video was lovely, always love your GRWM videos

I had the same thoughts when I found out I was pregnant. I was terrified that I would lose my me-time and time with my husband... and surprisingly enough, our baby hasn't taken up our time like so many people say. He's a joy to spend time with and makes both of us smile... and honestly he won't be demanding literally every moment of my time at home until he's old enough to at least try to have conversations with us. And that in itself is a while off and fun. If you make out having a kid or two or three as a time taker and burden of any kind, they definitely will be. If you just treat them as someone you want around anyway, kids are actually pretty fun. I know others may disagree with what I've said, but as a woman who wanted to go to concerts, drink, stay up as long as I want, etc before my pregnancy, I was surprised just how much I like spending time with my baby boy. Anywho. There's my two cents.

After reading some of the comments below, I wanted to weigh in with the “you don’t have to be a mom” crowd. I spent many hours agonizing over what was right for me and what was right for my relationship. My partner and I decided that kids weren’t for us. We have been following our dreams and exploring the world ever since! I’m 33 and I don’t regret this decision. I adore children but I would have regretted motherhood. And giving up on my goals of traveling the world (that’s part of what I’m paid to do for my job- crazy, right?) I would have regretted that for the rest of my life. Do what’s best FOR YOU. ❤️

Rachel I don't think it sounds bratty to say that you like to be lazy and enjoy your free time. I made the decision in my teens that I don't want to have kids. I am selfish with my free time and that's okay. It's one thing we should be selfish with. You're so close in age to me (I'll be 26 in October), but you seem so much mature to me. Also I ❤Frodo so much.

I decided in my teens that I didn't want children. I thought about it again in my 20's, when I first got married. I told my fiance that I didn't want kids, and he was fine with that. When my friends started having kids, my husband and I decided it definitely wasn't for us. If YOU TWO don't want kids, don't have them. It doesn't matter what anyone else says.

  • @Gryffindame
    @Gryffindame 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

Rachel, It's not selfish or bratty to not what children yet. At all. I think its really hard to have children. I used to nanny full time and it was HARD, the amount of times i cried was insane, and i got to give them back at 5pm every day :P (it was also really fun and i LOVE the kids i nannyed with every bit of my shriveled heart) If you're worried about fertility when you're older, maybe you could freeze some eggs? then later you can try make a bean with 26 year old eggs, while you're in your 30s.
But i think people sometimes rush into having children, its great that you value your career, and you should, our lives don't lose value when you don't have kids before 30. It's your life too, not anyone elses.
My partner and i have decided not to have kids, and its difficult because we are judged heavily, and told "you'll change your mind when you're older" but i AM older, i'm 28 this year. But if you feel pressured into having children before you are ready, the person who is pressuring you is the selfish one, it's no ones business bar yours and Nick's. Just remember to focus on what you want, and work towards that too.
I mean, kids won't stop you from working towards your dream, they might slow you down a bit, but you can still get there :)
also, i totally understand those movie goals, I'm in New Zealand and would KILL to work in the costume department at Weta.
    Keep being awesome xx

Ah yes..that blessed age when you have to make all these important life decisions 😁
Not envying you right now! I felt like you about kids when I was your age (37 now) and for me, it just never changed. I have a 2,5 year old nephew and recently I‘ve become godmother to a little baby girl...and I love that...but doing the whole 24/7 mother thing? No, thank you 😎
I definitely recommend spending serious time around little kids before you decide...it’s not just the lack of sleep and having to give up so much of your time and energy to them (unless you can afford a nanny or have a family support system)...kids can be rather...you know....‘boring‘ after a while. Now who sounds selfish?
Not newborn baby’s, they really trigger a very strong emotional reaction and basically make your body drug you into complacency (even if you’re not the mother), but later on....uhhh. Playing 3 hours with a 2 year old....naming the same things over and over again while moving toy cars around. It makes my head shrivel up every time...and my nephew is the most adorable little boy imaginable. I don’t know how people do it.
Can’t speak to the TH-cam thing, of course, although I sure hope you stick around! I’m already looking forward to your spring lookbook 🤗. You’re doing one, right?? Pleeaaasee???
Personally, I would much prefer, if TH-cam was organized like a music streaming service. You pay a couple bucks each month and it gets distributed to the artists you listen to. Or something along those lines. Instead of the annoying adds everyone ignores anyway. They are just so badly made, for the most part. Advertisers don’t seem to get, that tv style adds don’t work for TH-cam.
I could totally see you working for Disney, though. You’re crazy talented! They would be mad to pass up on you.
Oh boy, I need to run! Hugs!

I completely agree.. well, I adore kids and mine are my life and my joy and my passion, BUT I understand that not everyone feels that way. The truth is that parenthood is all consuming (or should be if you’re doing it right). It’s not the kind of thing you can try and then decide “Ya know what? This isn’t for me after all!” Once you have a kid it changes your life forever and there is no way to walk that back. There’s not a single thing wrong with wanting to wait to have kids, or even *gasp* choosing not to have children at all.

    • @Finniganh
      @Finniganh 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Diane Shiffer thanks for sharing your view. That's the important thing to learn from others and do your reseaech. It's brave to take that chance to become a parent in my opinion. For me the risk is too great because I'd hate to become a parent and the regret that choice. I ask is people give considerable time to making the decision to become parents.

Oh man! I thought you were totally my age with the marriage and the house. You are only 26!? Most of my friends are still getting married and just having their first baby. We are just about to be 30, so girrrrrrrrl, SLOW YOUR ROLL! You can stop worrying about "getting started". However, I know everyone else has their own idea of life, but I just wish to relieve the pressure off of you. Please know that kids are not for everyone. You can also look into fostering older children and volunteering with children to get a good handle on what parenting is like. I love working with children, but I know I do not want to have them. You are not alone when you ride the fence about having them. Society plays weird tricks on us. Do whatever makes YOU happy. I do want to remind you I love your videos, makeup, hair, and costumes THEY ARE YOUR ART!! Please keep making videos and I personally would understand if you didn't make some for a week or two just to live your life. You are only human after all. It's like a good friend who lives long distance. It's just good to hear and see your face. Wishing you a blissful weekend. : ]

So my parents had me at 30 and my sister at 35, and they realized it was so much better than having kids in their 20s. They weren't old parents. Yeah, they were older than my friend's parents, but it never hindered anything. And I'm 29 this year. They coached softball, bowling, took us to band, camping, they were extremely active. I'm waiting until my 30s. 30s are not your 30s when my parents were that age. Don't feel pressured to rush into kids have kids when you want to when you can sit down and look at your husband and say "let's have kids, lets do this." Don't let your age get in your way. Yes, you do have to think about some complications if you do get pregnant 35+ but with all the medical technology and such, you don't have to worry so much as people have in the past. You do you girl. Don't let the world dictate how you feel.

Life is so overwhelming and scary but I think that’s just part of being human and an adult. Thank you for openly talking about these things because figuring your life out is so hard and scary and so many people are feeling the same way ❤️ it’s nice to know that I’m not alone either in trying to figure my life out

Let me tell ya, that whole kid situation is my life x10. I've felt like that for a long while and I am now 33, which isn't anything really but we do only plan on one if we do have a wee human. I just think about how life hasn't been ready for that to happen, and it's hard to think it fits in the near future too.. Either way I know with time you'll start your family when its ready. Just know I understand that weird pressure it comes with.

My partner and I are about your age, and even though we *e v e n t u a l l y* want kids, there's no rush. Not only all the responsibility it entails, but also the economy is shit for young people. Also, I take issue with the phrase "start a family". We both say that we're a family of two, that we became a family, because that's what it feels like. So, I consider you and your family a beautiful family of four!!

You have no idea how comforting this is to me. It's always interesting to find comparisons within yourself in complete strangers BUT currently 26, just had my first adult vacation to Disney, also significant other to a Nick, dog mom and ginger. I'm going through similar decisions and avoiding important conversations and it's just taking a toll and I'm glad that it's a normal situation that other humans go through. Anywhoooo, Good luck on buying the house and I think more look books would be great content 🙂

Family pressure and expectations suck but seriously, don't let them twist your arm or make you feel bad about kids. You may want kids in ten years, you may want them in fifteen, or you may not want them at all. Any of those options are perfectly acceptable as long as it's what YOU and your husband want :) That said, I think older parents are better than younger ones. 35 and 40 is still pretty young in my book, so long as you play it safe and feel healthy about a pregnancy. Good luck with your career aspirations first and foremost my dude, and thanks for being candid with us

Giiiiirl the kids thing is so real! I’m 25 this year and my fiancé and I are getting marrried next year. Growing up I always thought I’d have kids young but now I just... don’t...? I value my free time and my time with my friends and fiancé so much! It’s not selfish in a negative way- just knowing what you want. We’ve decided to wait until our late 20s/ early 30s to even seriously consider it and I am so happy with that decision. There’s no rush! All that “it’s harder to have kids after 30” is bull anyway since it’s based on a study from the 1800s. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Thanks for sharing with us! 😘

It is not selfish to enjoy free time. I'm in school until I'm 25-26. I for sure want to spend a few years just enjoying adulthood before raising a human child. Hopefully all works out. As a fellow overthinker, it sucks not having a good plan.

Dear Rachel, I adore your personality, I love your style, and I like whole aesthetic of your films. Your films gives your followers joy, so if making them makes you happy as much as we like to watching them, keep doing it darling!
I'm turning 26 this month, so when I watch you, I can relate to you in some way and find myself in some things that you're saying. For example when you talk about still being a big kid :) and when you talk about figuring your life, enjoying your free time after getting home from work, or being stressed about having kids. I personally can't wait to have them, but also I know exactly what you mean, when you saying that this topic freaks you out ;) Obviously having them will change our lives. But I deeply believe, that this change, although it could and probably will be tough, would make us happy, and will give us lots of love, strenght and joy :) Don't be afraid of being mom (I'm sure you and your lovely husband will make great parents, whenever you decidet to became them! ), but also don't put any pressure on yourself, and remember, that every change in your life needs right time. Listen to your heart, keep calm and make your dreams come true :)
I've been watching your films near a year from now, and I've been always thinking of write you a comment, but never did. This film makes me do it. I send you greetings from Poland!

It's crazy how so many females feel pressured to have children. I'll likely foster and may adopt, but I probably won't deliver one. I'm your age, but don't want to think about delivering for another 10yrs lol. Well known pg statistics are out dated. A persons health matters more than age. 30s and 40s isn't too old.

I just love your honesty. I totally over think and compare myself to others so I get what you're saying and I'm right there with you. It's not easy but it's also nice to remember that you can do things because it's fun, and I think with youtube if it's not fun, then you don't have to do it. Just like with anything else. So I hope you always have fun and do it because you love it. ALSO- so cool you wanna work at Disney- that totally was my dream in middle school. I wanted to go to art school for animation and work for Disney. Never did BUT its never too late either! AND- (lol sorry!) I CAN NOT WAIT TO SEE ALLOY FINISHED. Definitely do a Boston meet up... that would be cool. You've got so many sweet places up that way for folks to check out in general. I'd definitely attend... does that sound weird, hope not. Never been to Boston, just drove thru the state on my to and from home/Bowdoin college during my schooling years at school in Maine.

I'm 27 and I'm starting law school this year, and even though I've met the love of my life and I know he wants kids (EVENTUALLY) I still have no idea if or when I'd ever be ready for it...And the "time limit" on women to have children does totally suck but.. We all have our different journeys and there is nothing wrong with wanting kids or NOT wanting kids.

You are so amazing! Thanks to you I have decided to embrace the side of me that loves vintage. I have always lacked the confidence to pull it off put after watching your videos I finally decided to take the plunge. Thank you for being so wonderful and true to yourself. As some one who does live on the East Coast, if you ever decided to have a meet and greet I would most definitely be there.

Girl I feel you on the kids. 😥 I feel like I'm a big kid and I love my alone time. My son was a surprise for my husband and I (before we got married) and I love him so much, but you definitely are always "on the job". It's hard, because self care seems impossible a lot of days, but ultimately it's worth it and as they get older it becomes easier. C: You'll figure everything out in its own time! ♡

Thanks for being so real with all of your videos and showing your goofy side. I resonate with your appreciation for history and your humor. If you ever come back to California you’ve got a friend in me in San Diego 😉

Hey I was part of that group that went on rides after the meetup! We all kept saying how we don't have other pinup friends, so thank you for bringing us together ❤️

I turn 26 in June, so I completely get what you mean about that window of having kids “soon.” For me, I don’t want kids until I’m in my 30s if at all. My mom had me when she was 33 and she was glad she waited. She said she had a stable job, a home and had grown up in her 20s so she was ready. It was nice to have her tell me it’s okay to wait and not rush. I hope whatever you decide makes you happy. :)

Hearing that you're an overthinker, stress about kinda everything and have mood swings just like me but keep moving is extremly motivating for me to hang in there. Because after rain comes sun. - Oh and I love that you put the songs down in the description box, they're always great picks.
