This is NOT what I was expecting. I'd seen advertisements for the voice acting cast of Baldur's Gate 3 to play, and I just assumed it would be the video game in 4 player multiplayer. I was not expecting it to be Critical Role style actual table top D&D. This is fantastic! Now I'm left thinking how amazing it would be to see "ahem" Minsc's voice actor as one of the crew, and not as DM.
She was TRULY in character to add that little “reminds me of the old days with Gortash”! All of a sudden the in-game Karlach/Gotash feud reappeared in my mind, with an extra reimagined scene where she was covering Gortash’s tricks and shenanigans in the streets, how Gortash might’ve made some witty jokes and how she would’ve completely trust the man. Suddenly because of this I can almost feel her sadness and pain after she was betrayed by him and the bitter rage when she confronted Gortash twice in the game. Everything just clicked because of this simple line! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Makes sense, too, since Karlach is this deep red tiefling that naturally becomes a center of attention. You can do a lot in that moment of distraction.
Neil Newbon REALLY loves doing Astarion's more dickish moments, doesn't he? XD And that look from Samantha when he was like "I don't know what you're talking about" was also great XD
I'm convinced if they had had more time Astarion would literally have been "Tav can wait, I want to go to the fashion show!" Like, he'll make sure that Tav is saved and everything, he'd just vibe in Athkalta for a couple days
You don't understand charisma if you think him having 10 is wrong. You can find someone funny and charming while absolutely not trusting them. Charisma is not how likable you are but it's about your ability to interact with others. Ast is a vampire and a thief, the former giving him an aura that automatically makes people not trust him and the latter giving him, err the same. Ast is socially awkward and also a bad liar which would give him a low charisma score. On top of that others know he puts himself first. He acts in a way that accurately shows his charisma stat.
With this and Love Is a Legendary Action, I now desperately want a BG3 spin-off that just focuses on Astarion and Karlach going on various hilarious misadventures.
The companions in Athkatla become the stereotypical D&D players: "Bars! Shops! Steal stuff! Brothels! Steal more stuff!" I mean, this could've been straight out of Order of the Stick. 😂
It would be so cool to get professional make up/Special effect designers to make up this whole cast and have them cosplay their characters. It truly is their voice that carries my love for each character.
After watching Neil play BG3 and steal a nuke right from under a fire spell ready gnome girl during a cutscene, I'm sure he'd be able to pocket few coins from some merchants with ease.

This is a technically noncanon side quest. Tav was attacked by a powerful magic and the Act 1 group had to find the source in order to free then so they could continue with their journey. It's a very fun one shot that created a lot of memes (Astarion getting distracted by Gale's boots, Shadowheart adopting an imp named Bingbong, at least the latter of which ACTUALLY gets a shout out in the game!) it's honestly very fun and funny

That's the point. They each took a point of fire damage, which caused a distraction gave Astarion advantage on his sleight of hand check.
