  • In this video, I am going to show you WHY SVG's are awesome and why you want them for your machine embroidery applique, and I am going to show you the difference between a JPEG and an SVG.
    SVG's are what you want for creating cut files for machine embroidered applique. Once you have an SVG what do you do next?
    I start off with the Brother System: in other videos, I have worked with the Dream Machine and the Scan N Cut DX225 cutter - which work seamlessly together to pre-cut your applique fabric. In this video, we work on the computer in PED 10 to create an FCM file so we can send it to the cutter.
    For all examples, I am working with a Kreative Kiwi design and working with the applique pieces. Kreative Kiwi will be adding SVG's to the files at some time in the future.
    You can get the design that I am working on here:
    www.kreativekiwiembroidery.co...
    If you don't have the Brother Scan N Cut system, I move on to the Cricut Maker, and their software Cricut Design - which is a free program to design on the Cricut maker. Upload the SVG, insert it into your document and then make sure it is the correct size. Then cut!
    I also quickly open the Silhouette Cameo software, the basic free edition and quickly discover that this version does not read SVG files! You have to pay to upgrade to the Designer Level or the Business level to be able to work with SVG's.

    Everything you wanted to know about SVG's but didn't ask! How to create an SVG in PEDesign 10, and how to use an SVG in Cricut Design Space and Silhouette!

      I have the silhouette business edition. Can I import SVGs into PEDesign10 to be able to embroidery something I have already made into a decal in silhouette?

    I have the Scan n Cut DX 225 but am somewhat intimidated by it. This helps me to want to get in there and play around a bit. Thanks very much for the SVG info. I never knew what the letters stood for. You know so much about so many things!! Love your videos!

      you should be using the DX 225 - it is the top of the line for the Scan n cuts. the BEST part is that it will read PES files, so it makes it super easy. copy the file to a USB and plug it in - pick the one you want and get cutting! You can even copy directly from your machine...such a time saver. give it a go and let me know if you have any issues.

    I just bought a Brother embroidery machine and I have been searching for a way to use my Cricut Maker to cut out applique files and use Embroidery software. I knew that someone besides me would want to do this and after a entire week of searching I found your site. I have subscribed and I will be watching all of your videos. I use Corel Paint Shop Pro and I could follow your graphic program movements exactly. "Thank you" seems inadequate for how happy I was to find you - I am extremely grateful.

      Have you figured out how to convert a PES file to SVG file to import to Cricut or Silhouette? Still stumped with that - just upgraded to a ten needle and want to be able to crank out some designs. Would be so helpful to be able to cut out first and then stitch. I don’t have a Scan n Cut

      you can convert stitch files using any software and the "save as" function, or you can use the free Wilcom Truesizer software.

    I can see using an SVG especially for small pieces of applique. Even thought I have a plotter - I still tend to go to my dies with the Accuquilt studio for ease of use, must be old dog and new tricks theory!! Thank you for showing us the new brother products that work together. My one question is why does the SVG file not come in at the size it is for the applique from PE Design 10 - why do you have to set the size in the plotter?

    • @OMLembroidery
      @OMLembroidery  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Secretly, I leave the Accuquilt the best :). PEDesign 10 works well with the brother cutter - you can send directly from the applique PES design. It’s the Cricut that needs the resizing, it comes in at 2x3 which is clearly not the correct size. I am not sure why it reads it that way, but it does :)

    Nice video, but you did NOT show how to open the SVG in PE Design 10?
    Also, I have a Graph-Tec cutter (not a Brother cuter), how can I EXPORT the file as a eps so any brand cutter will cut the applique? Thanks

    How do you convert the PES file into an SVG file? You show how to send it to Scan and Cut, but I didn't understand where your SVG file came from.

      @@OMLembroidery The only thing which puzzles me is how is the image an svg? Do we export it as an svg? If so, how?

    • @arleneevans2350
      @arleneevans2350 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lunasmum6869 Have you gotten an answer for your question? I have the same problem. I have a Brother embroidery machine but a Cricut Maker. My problem is that whenever I upload a file into Cricut Design Space it doesn't come out the size I need for the applique. I really don't want to buy a scan n cut when I have a perfectly good cutter. If anyone has a way to get the right size applique cut out on the Cricut Maker to embroider on a Brother embroidery machine please advise. Also when you try to resize to the dimensions of the Brother pes design, it distorts in Cricut Design Space.

    Thank you, although I do not have PEDesign 10, Cricut Design Space or Silhouette, it was very interesting, if a little confusing for me. Maybe I should start to drop hints to my partner to buy me one. Mind you he will just say use what you have got and a pair of sissors! Sigh... Mind you it wasn't until 3 weeks or so ago that I had ever heard of them!

    not sure how the exported FCM file turns into svg file?? I don't have scan n cut, so have no use for FCM files, but using the export in PE Design would be great to make an SVG to cut. Is this possible??

    • @OMLembroidery
      @OMLembroidery  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      it doesn't turn into a SVG file...it is an FCM file because that is what the brother scan and cut uses.
