This was my mom's perfume - growing up I remember she'd put it on when going out on a date with dad, she's hug me before she left and my PJ's would smell of her. It was comforting for me...even to this day. When I smell this perfume I smile and think of my mom.

My grandma and my aunt wore this perfume. They were some bombshells back in their day. I honestly used to hate it. That said, over the last few years I have been craving the scent. I happened upon a vintage bottle in an antique store years ago, so of course I bought it. Not long ago I pulled that bottle out- and it smells exactly like I remembered. And, I found I don’t hate it anymore. I don’t wear the perfume- but instead I spray it on pillows throughout my home- and no joke. One spray is far more potent than any candle, air freshener- anything I’ve ever come across. And now my home smells exactly like my childhood memories. My daughter asked me what air freshener I sprayed- and she said it smelled like a patchouli type essential oil. I absolutely love it. I love having that aromatic connection to the ladies who impacted my life and went before me.

I purchased four 4 ounce bottles of vintage Youth Dew Cologne from eBay.
They are from the 1960's. All I can say is WOW!
Beautiful and long lasting because of the musk and oakmoss. You can't beat the vintage perfumes.

  • @tennisguyky

I love this perfume, perfume has no gender, & and despite many labeling it as old lady, I find it to be divine. I love it’s spicy character and if I’m wearing perfume I like something that lasts. To each their own but I love how it’s scent envelopes you and doesn’t have any musk, just spice, oriental, clove, and touches of floral powder. Musk does not mesh with my body chemistry at all and I also love how youth dew doesn’t compromise and isn’t watered down. I adore it. I might not wear it in summertime, but it’s a perfume I always find myself reaching for time and again when I get tired of others that just simply do not have staying power like youth dew! I did a comparison to White Diamonds by Liz Taylor and Tabu to Youth Dew, and I found that White Diamonds did not last on me and was a bit too powdery, and Tabu, while it smells divine up front, has way too much musk on the dry down and my body chemistry hates musk of any kind. Youth Dew is perfect for me!

YOUTH DEW by EsteeLauder is my signature scent, I actually prefer buying the larger size bath oil. I do not like the perfume spray. This perfume is still very very popular here in the USA. I was asking the sales ladies at Macy’s the other day and they were telling me that Youth Dew is still a monthly top-sellers.
I put a couple drops on my neck, wrists, arms, and chest. It’s wonderful, and it truly has kept the test of time. I am a 37 year old Male and even other Guys at the gym always ask me what I have on!

@@ouch110 well you are very right, I was even more newbie on perfumes than now at the moment buying it. And I also did some mistakes. I had just read about it and heard some good thing about it and believed it was a luxury sexy perfume that would make me attractive somehow to that man I am so much in love with, but learned this wasn't the way to purchase things like this, and was very happy I loved this much, and understood the risks not knowing before buying when another one turned out smelling like I wanted to puke, even if I thought they would fit my taste perfectly based on the notes. My favorite perfume is Shalimar, but I've also worn Youth Dew off and on for almost as long. It's more intense than Shalimar. I think it's best in the winter, and you don't want to put too much on in a closed space or it can become stomach-turning. The right abount though at the right time is truly beautiful. I adore Youth Dew...Have a few vintage bottles and the bath oil...all are fine this stuff just gets better with age...but just a dab is needed ...For those having trouble wearing this...you may wish to layer it with a sweet perfume to make it more palatable for modern tastes...I have layered it with Fancy by Jessica Simpson and also with just a drop of Pink Sugar. Once I had just sprayed some on and then got a call to go to my children's school in Egypt...As I was talking to the American teacher he mentioned how much he liked buhur incense...I thought the comment strange then after I realized he was smelling my very iconic American perfume and assuming it was some exotic incense...hahahaha.

Great review. Thank you Thomas. I want to mention that Youth Dew was originally sold as a bath oil. It was part of Estee Lauder's sales strategy when women, "nice women", were discouraged from buying perfumes for themselves. There seemed to be less stigma in buying a bath oil. Go figure. If you can get your hands on the bath oil it's richer, deeper, and creamier than the spray.....if that is possible! Not difficult to find here in the States, not sure about the UK. Just a little pricier than the spray. Cheers!

I grew up with White Shoulders which was a big Estée Lauder fragrance. It was always a big day for me, my grandmother and my mother going to the mall, having lunch, then heading to the EL counter. EL would include a generous “gift with purchase” and we all loved the whole experience. My fragrance of choice was always L’Air du Temps, still the most beautiful in the world.

I still wear them both to this day, and my 16 year old daughter loves both of them as well - mind you, she has a particular bent for vintage perfumes, her signature scent is Arpege, and I swear she's probably the only teenage girl in Australia who wears that fragrance.

I have a love hate relationship with Youth Dew. I used to actually "hate" it when I first began my fragrance journey in my late teens, now that I'm hitting my 30's I decided for some reason to go back and re-test the fragrances that I used to dislike or found too challenging, and omg my gosh! I was blown away and had no idea why I disliked it so much back then ! It is everything that I've been craving lately and fits all the criteria of being something that I would now regularly reach for on a day to day basis, It smells DIVINE when I spray it under my shirt on the chest, clavicles, and back .... I would get the most beautiful gorgeous florals up-rising in wafts throughout the day and I can't help but to roll my eyes back. I think when I was starting my journey I was going for more of the aquatics and gourmands (which are more safe and less challenging) but as my nose matured with age and life experience, I began to crave chypres, rich-florals, orientals, and the "classics" more and more to the point of now being OBSESSED with hunting for them. I only have smelt the current formulation of Youth Dew, but I find it to be beautiful enough, I can only imagine how the vintage would be and I look forward to that day that I get to try it!
My current obsession is Amouage Jubilation 25, which is their more French leaning Chypre type scent, in the DNA of Guerlain Mitsouko and Rochas Femme .... Dare I say that If someone sprayed Youth Dew for me for the first time and lied to me and told me that it was something from Amouage, I would have believed it, given how rich and opulent is smells and the regal vibe it gives. I OFFICIALLY LOVE YOUTH DEW!

I have heard Youth Dew described as the "ultimate Oriental." Personally, I love it. If you have not tried Bijan Bijan, released in 1986, it is a descendant of Youth Dew and is a rich, opulent, sultry Oriental with a gorgeous ylang-ylang note. Anyone who loves Orientals should have both in his/her collection. Another amazing Oriental is Tabu, which I know you have reviewed and did not find mesmerising, but it has never gone out of production since its launch. There is a good reason these fragrances keep going---they are fabulous! 😊

I enjoyed hearing your description of this legend. I think the people who don't like it, get put off by scents that are super PURRFUUMMEY. I think it smells like heaven when you wear it in cold weather, because the sillage is warm spicy, incense. The name is weird though, there's nothing youthful or dewy about it. I also love Magie Noire. The actress Sarah Paulson said when researching the character she played in the O.J. Simpson miniseries, prosecutor Marcia Clark wore "this terrible 1980's perfume called Magie Noire." I couldn't disagree more. But when I think about it, a hot crowded courtroom is probably not the best place for Magie Noire. It is a cold weather magic carpet ride, like Youth Dew. Love your videos.

Let me warn all of you - Youth Dew is a VERY intense cologne. Not at all a soft, dainty "girly" scent. It packs quite a punch. It's the fragrance equivalent of a shot of bourbon. Just to let you know what you'll be getting. One way to clear out a room really quickly is to put on too much Youth Dew.

The first time I smelled this was 20 years ago. I worked in a retail store, and was working at the perfume counter. One of the older ladies working there said it was her favorite scent. So I decided to smell it. It has a straight up plain perfume scent. I can't really smell any scent notes. I always thought it stunk. I put it in the same class as Elizabeth Taylor's perfumes. I find it to be an older woman's scent. I know a lot of older women who love it. I nicknamed it "Old Dew". Now I may change my mind when I get a little older. But for now, it's not my cup of tea.
