So, I'm a student. More specifically, I'm a game design student. So YGO actually ends up being my break from school, and I enjoy that because I get to almost study the fanbase of a game in my free time. So when I see conversations about taking a break or quitting, and even when I end up in them, I like to pay attention to the why. And I ultimately agree with a lot of people that they should take a break. A good break can help people come back to something with a fresh mind, and YGO is no different. I think that most people I see and encounter in these conversations, sometimes on both sides, should take a break from the game. I even see another comment that mentions just taking a break from playing, and not a break from buying products or building decks. That kind of embodies this whole argument. If you're going to take a break, how much are you going to take a break? Are you going to step away entirely, or are you just going to take a break from doing it competitively? And in the end, I think everyone should take a break at some point. I think that 2-6 weeks away from the game, or any game that you play daily, can get you to return with a fresh mind. I don't know how ramble-y that was, but taking a break is healthy and I think that everyone should try it in their own way.
I completely agree with you in all your points. You have to hear and understand both parts of the story. Maybe it's too expensive, maybe the current state of the game, etc. But, it can also be a break from competitive(since some people take it too far) or just entirely out. I personally quit the competitive scene in 2016 and just yugioh in general. But once 2019 came with the pandemic and I had more places to play it online, I got back to it but only in a casual play. I buy sets, singles so I can have a hobby and try to get back to date. I'm just currently buying and trading some cards, nothing serious and not spending the big money I used to in the day. Now you see me go to a store and people think I'm very new to the game and come to me for this and that. Jajajaja To know I used to rock my area in 2010, time passes so fast and the game changed so much. Remember the day when having a blue-eyes on the field and a mirror force on the back was a MASSIVE settup and problem? Good times, good times.
@@chuko640 I actually enjoy fun/casual duels more than competitive duels. Losing with my Laval deck to a Jaden Yuki Heros deck is a lot more fun than losing to Dragon Link with my Altergeist deck, as an example
You know, i needed to hear this. You really helped me through a rough time on my life, even though not yugioh related, i was going through a rough patch and this has helped me, and i thank you so much for everything you do for your community.

@@ofrutsra theres some youtube videos where people show off their cubes. Mine only consists of cards from legacy of darkness and back but really they can be built all sorts of ways
@@skylermorrow4085 Love the cube. I've put together an MTG cube since the pandemic started to play draft with my roommates, but I'd never even considered a ygo one. Guess it's time to get started - thanks for the idea!
I'm on a small break from playing as well, mostly because I'm tired of remote duels and, after dueling face-to-face with a couple friends the other week (my locals aren't in-person yet), I've realized that nothing compares. Still opening packs, building decks, talking theory and the like, but I have little interest in actually dueling until I can play for real. Hopefully soon.
Packs? You still buy packs? You must make some good money lol I started buying singles online and geeze that’s so much better also have you tried the dueling sites where you can chat with people? Yeah there are antisocial people but there’s others that will really talk to ya
@@johnathanheatherman6438 I summon.. POT OF GREED which allows me to draw 2 EXTRA CARDS FROM MY DECK.. which let's me play POT OF GREED, to draw 2 ADDITIONAL CARDS FROM MY DECK.. uh oh, you'll never see this coming.. POT OF GREED, FOR 2 ADDITIONAL CARDS FROM MY DECK
@@johnathanheatherman6438 lmao no, I was making a stupid reference to a video. If you actually don't know what it does it let's you draw 2 cards, that's it.
Meta decks are always a pain in the ass to deal with. I just got back to the game from a break when True king/draco and D/D/D was just became meta and imo it's not that bad atm you got dragon link, shaddoll and Invoke they're strong and annoying to deal with but it's not like those archetypes prevent you from playing the game like Calamities or have 500 words in their card text and has 5 different effects when they're summoned or in pendulum zone and to set up their field with 5 negations they take like 1-2 hours to recycling their cards. Dragonlink is kinda does this in away but man back in the day D/D/D and Pendulum Magician was on another level.
I took a long break after dragon ruler format until recently which I only am really collecting cards. I find it as a stress reliever being able to sort cards and open boxes. Also just being able to sit back and admire the artwork is enough for me
I don’t play the card game but as an anime viewer, Sevens is legitimately fun to watch especially with all the stress going on irl with the virus and everything. But yeah YuGiOh is a tough game, there’s nothing wrong with taking a break and come back at better time
My current situation with Yugioh is quite difficult. It's like taking a break from playing it, but still beeing up to date on everything (if it's the newest products or videos about it) The guy with who I originally started playing it, left it or is on a long break and since the card prices are way to high right now, I can't really get something new and MUST wait for the big reprint boxes to get the "good und usefull" stuff, which makes it a bit more/too difficult. Another thing is that I only play online (DB, Project Ignis/Omega), since my introverted ass doesn't have the balls to go to a tournament or even to show up at some locals (doesn't matter if it's on- or offline). So yeah, I just hope that some product, deck or even change (like the Banlist for example) will reignite the flame for the game again.
Pretty much on a seven year break. A combination of the local store not allowing cash in trades, and getting sick of short prints and rarity bumps. Rescue rabbit getting bumped from rare to secret was a pretty big tipping point.
Awesome video Paul. I completely agree, after I quit playing in tournaments and such, I was in a bad place with the game, not just toxic players, but toxic stores as well... STORES. But this was back in the zexal era, and I basically took a break in the Arc V era and rejoined in the Vrains era... The packs I missed were unfortunate but the break was way worth it, I started to enjoy the game again and started a casual group of duelist where we have creative duels rather than competitive games. After that big break, I make sure to take smaller breaks whenever it becomes tiresome, thankfully, the pandemic actually helped with that. I started to refuse to duel digitally 6 months into lockdown, and when I was finally able to duel someone in person, it felt great, like I'd been waiting so long for it. Right now, I'm also taking a break, my country is having a tough time with products, and alot of people are poaching products on release day and selling the cards with mark up to other players that can't be there on the day. So I decided that now is the perfect time to take time off and try other games. Thankfully stuff like shadowverse scratched my card game itch, and recent anime releases and video game releases have helped as well.
took a break from yugioh around 2006 but i found with Covid hitting seeing how much free time i have now i got back into it and it much more enjoyable learning the new mechanics and even dual links and the anime are so much enjoyable for me seeing how long my break was
Havent played since we all know what force all card shops to close down, but now that they are opening back (slowly) I came back to a price tag of + $900 on 9 cards (Lightning Storm, Pot of Prosperity & Forbiden Droplets) just to be able to have a change to play. 😑 I'll just wait until reprint season (mega tins) to come back.
I relate to this exactly, I love playing Yu-Gi-Oh but I miss trading and playing in tournaments. At the same time, I was discontent with the city I live in. So I did something about it and took a break from those aspects. Great video!
I took a break for this month because keeping up with combos and such is really stressful during ramadan and i actually don't have the energy to play while i'm fasting. Watching others play or keeping up with tournaments is also very entertaining.
Nice video! Its important to not lose focus on having fun.If you're in a state that the game or something surrounding it is getting you nervous, its a good idea to take a step back and relax.
I’ve taken a break too. I got back into the game last year in March and it was awesome to see all the new stuff available after not playing for over 10 years. After a while it lost its luster for me. I’ve been playing Digimon tcg and have been working through my first Monster Hunter game in Rise. I don’t think I’ll be gone forever from the game. My best friend still plays it. And I’m hoping for more support in the future to change up some of my decks. But for now, it feels good to step away and just take a break.
thats me whit pokemon TGC i loved traveling, And winning prize cards or exstra boosters and such. Online it feels more casual for me plus my deck i played for 2 years rotated . im still looking to play again once in person events are allouwed but for now i just play autochess and such
I quit playing yugioh after playing for 13+ years but I do collect here and there and try to keep up a bit. So your videos are so insightful. At first I called it a break and then I just never came back after getting into MTG. And now I've quit MTG to go to Digimon which is my card game of choice. So yes, sometimes just switching things up is all you need.
I took a break from like 2020 until a few weeks ago and I think it was a good idea. I now have new decks to try and most of the cards aren't as expensive as they were when they first came out.
I took an indefinite break when covid hit, and honestly I'm glad I did. It was getting ridiculously expensive to keep up with the meta, and as a sky striker player, I felt pretty burnt with konami after they deliberately crippled my deck to "force" me to buy a new deck (no rotation my ass). I've been playing around with magic and the digimon tcg to scratch that competitive itch, and it's been very refreshing, honestly. If you're taking a break, or thinking of taking a break, consider giving other games a chance, specially if you've never played other tcg's before. It really makes it a lot easier.
I took a long break from YGO awhile ago and have been playing fairly actively for the past 3 formats. When I came back it was much easier to just accept the game for what it was and enjoy myself.
Great little video and if I may add don't fret if one must step away from a hobby/interest more than once to recharge batteries, refind one's self and the reasons for loving the thing being put aside for a bit and life things (I know the last one as prior to COVID I broke an arm then suffered several health matters that just happen to pop up and am still awaiting a new liver needed despite never having the vices that would normally cause damage and with the pandemic and just situations occurring things got delayed to now too that I can't even get to tourneys if I want or even be online much needing more rest simply to heal). As noted what started tends to stay especially if it's had longevity and thus one likely can come back barring a super rare closure of an entire game, show one watches and so forth. Find other things to do and improve life and the time will be right to look in that mirror again to consider a return anytime. Cheers!
I started playing Yu-Gi-Oh at a very young age but i forgot about it as i grew up. Then when pendulums were a thing i was playing non stop duel generation on my phone. Then another break when it was finished. Now im playing duel links for a year , i bought a speed duel structure deck and my friends gave me a shaddoll showdown structure deck for my birthday last month.
Really cool and brave video! I also took a break from yugioh and youtube, since these were my main mediums for procrastination, for the winter and it was really worth it.
Im about to graduate from college, so I'm actually starting to get back into the game recently. The price for staple cards has always been a huge deterrent for me, but Im saving up money for when/if some of these cards become cheaper so I can buy them. But there isn't a rush to especially when events aren't up for the foreseeable future. For now I'm just playing online on my free time to improve my play and deckbuilding.
this is absolutely true. for me it wasn't YGO, I just recently came back; my problem was with Magic the Gathering. I used to play very competitively, and the powercreep Magic has had in recent years was draining me financially, emotionally, and mentally. I took a break, which became an extended break when I realized I was happier. That extended break became permanent when I recognized many of my Magic friends wanted to stay friends outside the hobby. no hobby is static, and your relationship to your hobby shouldn't be either. sometimes you just grow out of things. I, for one, got very frustrated in Magic when my opponent kept transforming my win conditions into Elks - it stopped being funny after the first two weeks that Throne of Eldraine dropped.
I had a 4-5 year break from attending university and coming back, A LOT has changed but as intimidating and weird some mechanics are, its kinda cool to see.
This definitely helped me when I started coming back into Yugioh since I left during the middle of the Pendulum era. Another thing I would recommend is trying out other card games like Magic the Gathering or Pokemon because it will refresh your mind when coming back to Yugioh, and may even change your outlook to the game. I've been playing MTG for about 3 years now, and it has helped me going back into Yugioh because I have a different mindset coming back.
My friend is super passive-aggressive because I usually win, but I'm not even playing meta- just have a slightly better understanding of synchro, xyz and link, which does make a big difference... Great video topic- I feel when I do play again I need to find someone else to play- just a casual player looking to stay involved so I don't need to stress myself out with my buddy's frustration with the game- I'd really like to go to a local's one day
You know Paul, I can relate to what you’re doing on a different level. For me, I gave up Yugioh for Vanguard, Why? Because.....The Community rejected the deck I was playing at the time, which is Playmaker’s Cyberse deck from the anime. For Vanguard, Most players there are suffering the same thing. Sure there is lots of cards but a Set Rotation for the international players outside of Japan is....still waiting because lots of business behind the scenes happened which I am not gonna go into. To put it simply, I do want a place to play the card games I love physically in-person again, cause I found a lot of cheaters in Online Play, and that....is not fun. Wii Play Games in Las Vegas mostly has sets you can buy, but no tables to open packs or boxes, let alone interact with other players. Good thing I am taking a break and focusing on important life stuff that playing two different card games at the same time made me procrastinate on those things which matter. So, Whenever I have the time to play a game of Yugioh or Vanguard, I’ll take it or refuse it if it takes too long. Gotta slow myself down sometimes, before I get burnt out....again. (It is still lingering little by little from last year.)
What's funny is that I have been taking a break for almost 6 months now, but It isn't because of any of the things you spoke about. In fact It's almost not even by choice, No it's everything to do with the fact that there are no yugioh tournaments atm! Remotes duels is virtually unplayable competitively and I've also moved recently so I don't know of any shops that are open! While I've never had friends who played this game! There were at least people I would recognize when I did attend ots' and they recognized me. I also knew the judge who worked at my old ots. One of the biggest issues that the un-sanctioning of ots has brought is that anyone who has a change from the norm in life are the ones who suffer the most! Just because konami Is too scared to If nothing else sanction ots! All the while they're still selling them product and still supporting sneak peak events! (one is coming at the end of the month btw but still no tournaments beyond remotes that no one in my area is hosting anyways!) It's just frustrating because I would love to play right now, but every situation in my life atm puts me in even more of a rough position! Also every executive decision konami makes about the situation feels like they're just kicking dirt in my face and anyone who understands/has a problem with remote dueling! Like it really feels like they don't want people to play rn and honestly that's what will happen to the point where If things do go back to normal, sure some people will come back but others are just going to move on! Especially if there are other games/tcg's that will let them play 'during these troubling times'!
i,for one and very happy with yu-gi-oh. i have plans to read the first seven and last seven volumes of the manga (before it became about the card game and the ancient egypt arc) and have even started playing by manga rules (and made a deck for it since it's basically the same as the normal rules but you get 2000 life points, you don't have to tribute summon to get your powerful monsters out, there are no traps and each player has to have exactly 40 cards in their deck). so ya,i'm having a great time with yu-gi-oh.
Just cam out of a 3 year break from Yugioh (left when links came out), and the game seems nice on a local level. Dunno how well it will fare on a more competitive level. Never been as excited to play since my beginnings
I've taken a break from YGO throughout my entire high school year. Then it was an on and off thing during my community college years as well. Usually I started playing Vanguard the most.
yeah your right, it's good for ur sanity to take a break if u feel a negative feeling towards the game. I did. I might not play as much now, but I feel better mentally. I subbed, which I thought I already was tho.
Took a break when the pendulum Era started cause i didn't like the mechanic. A lot do but wasn't for me. Stepped back in after links were released and when a lot more legacy support came out.
My break has been since the Orcust danger! Format. I have been delving into other tcgs and have realized how complicated yugioh is compared to everything else. I am only still interested in yugioh due to yugitubers, especially Team Aps(some of the best content for any tcg).
My local store literally 'just' started carrying Yugioh product, and finally trying to get people in to play, around the start of this month. The first time I was able to go, the day before they were actually going to start it, a third lockdown began. Fewer breaks for me please.
I've just gotten back to indulging in content, purchasing cards, and building decks after taking a break since 2011. Have I had the opportunity to actually play the game and use the cards? Nope. Covid has made that difficult to do in person, all my friends have shifted away from TCGs, and I don't have the setup or enthusiasm to play over the internet -- but I'm still trying to take the time now to learn the things I've missed out on, but also trying to avoid any serious competitive focus; I prefer a more casual approach with my anxiety riddled brain. What I'm trying to say is that it's totally fine and healthy to take a break, be it a few weeks or even a decade; you could even quit outright if it's what's best for you. It's great to have hobbies in our lives, but we also have to make sure to balance ourselves in that life, and not to let your hobbies take over entirely -- especially when it stresses you out and you're not able to truly enjoy it as you may once have originally. Take care of yourself; Yu-Gi-Oh! will be there for you when you're ready to come back. It won't just disappear. Konami needs the money. xD
Saw this video's title and my mind immediately went to that other advice video you guys had a while back - and I think Alex gave that one bit of advice that you allude to here :)
I've been taking a break from in person yugioh for 2 years and switched to online. I really am happy with that choice. I've saved a lot of money, get to play the banlists I want etc. I may switch back to in person someday but I've been much happier online and i think other people who want to take a break can also switch to online.
I took a break after pendulums appeared. I lost my interest in yugioh, i have not followed the meta, the new archeotypes, nor any news. I have returned 2 years ago, when the legendary hero decks came out and I loved it. I always wanted a fusion deck, so I started playing with heroes and I still love it. The link mechanic was confusing and irritating but I have accepted it. Fortunately MR5 came out last year so I could relive the original extra deck summoning methods. Also my brother is playing yugioh too so I can duel with somebody almost anytime. Also I have a little yugioh community around me with different decks and strategy, well yeah, the meta decks are appearing here too and yeah, the meta sucks now but the dragon link is a very strong deck that can improve your skills to play another level. I think, if you can beat dragon link then you have the skill to beat any decks in the future.
I took a break from Yugioh around when Pendulms came out. Hated the mechanic. I came back around last year cause Links looked cool. Been loving the game again
This is why i just watch the yugioh anime series, and build character decks. No stress just fun and collecting. Im currently enjoying yugioh sevens series. After the 10 minute turns in competitive play i was out, and never looked back
Took a break last March. Had a whole issue where it seemed though every deck I wanted to build was expensive. Now that we're past reprint season, and I've found a different card game as my main-go-to, I have a more healthy outlook on Yugioh (mainly because I no longer care as much). Previous, I had issues with the amount of reading when playing against so much different decks online, cards and staples in decks I want to build being expensive despite not being competitive. As well as cards like Apollousa, Borreload Savage being hard to access (now they've been reprinted enough). The meta being expensive to access. Sure I can play Altergeist with Pot of Duality and Effect Veiler instead of Extrav & Imperm, but that to me is just a coping mechanism, nothings been solved. I love my deck and I want it to be the best it can be, so sucks that I couldn't improve it anymore due to them being expensive etc. The way to improve REALLY CASUAL decks is just more generic unfair cards, kaiju, Nibiru, Handtraps, floodgates. Having to play against so much negation so my Decks can rarely pull off their thing etc. But alls good now. 😁
It would be better if every card came in common rarity and had a decent amount of reprints. That way, some of us could actually still get the card even if it wasn't the most shiny or hyped version of the card. I bought Dragon Master Knight in rare rarity last month because it was the cheapest version of the card. More cards need that kinda convenience.
Only thing I want to take a break from is purchasing new cards. My OTS is raising the price on every single card unless the card is trash. A box of Duel Devastator went from $35 to $60.
As someone who is thinking of starting to play this game. What are some good/smart buys for building decks. Just buy a bunch of booster packs? Checked out some local shops and they say they still gather and play so there's that to looking forward too.
Considering you're taking a break, I'd love to also hear your thoughts on Legends of Runterra as a Yu-Gi-Oh player. I just recently started playing myself and am genuinely suprised by both how good the game is and how consumer friendly it is too.
I don't really take breaks at YGO, it's mostly breaks at using certain decks. I do often wait with ordering new decks, I play mostly casually with my mates, using mostly unoptimal decks. I want to order a wicked god deck but since it uses Egyptian God Slime I'm waiting till the structure decks for Obelisk and Slifer drop for Egyptian Slime reprints since the card is just so expensive
Not so much on break as I'm unable go to the OTS store when the people go to play. I'm working on getting together with one (or two) for trading and hopefully get to playing when the time allows (hopefully start playing goat format).
I've taken several breaks from the game over the years. Kind of have to if you've been playing since near the beginning. Recently I've been building casual decks to play with my friends when we're all vaccinated. It's really nice to not focus on making meta decks and building decks around archtypes I've always liked but never used because I was laser focused on trying to top events or my very competitive locals. I think a big part of why that's been enjoyable lately is the legacy support that Konami has been putting out. It makes it so that those decks I wanted to make are more up to speed with the modern game and it doesn't feel like playing old archtypes, even just casually, get blown out every match with newer decks/strategies.
I took a break in Yugioh when Master Rule 4 dropped, because a deck I really liked, was unplayable. Which was my Ultimaya Metalfoes deck. I mean I lost kirin, gofu got banned, I can't really pendulum summon from the extra deck without a link, and it just required way too much where it wasn't possible to even do. Then you had Extra Linking crap happening consistently, then you had FTKs, and I just stopped playing. Didn't really get back into the game until Master Rule 5, where some of the restrictions were lifted. Even then, I'm rather still on a break, because no deck has interested me that came out recently.
I'm taking a break from dueling. however, I haven't stopped collecting or deck building, keeping up with the meta, etc. I'm more dissatisfied with Konami rather than yugioh separately if that makes sense. remote duels just.....suck all in all.
I'm hoping I can make a competitive version of Cyberdarks. With the amount of time it takes for them to receive direct support, my breaks are pretty far in between ...granted they're my favorite archetype for whatever reason.
I think I will have to take a break now, actaully thought about this right before this video came up in my recommended. I am a duel links only player tho, but the new banlist is so unsatisfying and it will literally not change how much blue eyes will be played, its just annyoing. dare I say I hate it (banlist). bc also one of the decks I played this season (mainly bc of bewd spam) is lunalights, and guess what, it got hit RLY hard on this list while blue eyes didnt get that same treatment, but is much more problematic. all in all I will keep an eye on the next boxes, but yet another season full of blue eyes, hell nah
I will say I took a break and that was 10+ years I not saying that the advice is I am actually just highlighting that it is just a good thing. I still enjoy the game but I play with older cards with people with an agreed-upon format and banlist. It is a lot more fun for me. I didn't like how it was going toward the midpoint of 5Ds and really never looked back. You might also try other card games for a change of pace until you burn out of the game and come back to Yugioh. I am on a 3 card game rotation and it keeps all three fresh for me.
The way yugioh is looking I feel like just returning to traditional format for a bit and say screw tha banlist, for a while get back to using all the cards I invested in, or archtypes that got banned.
I feel were in on of the best times to take a break from the game too, nothing really exciting is happening any time soon and the novelty of remote dueling has kinda worn off. I've noticed as times gone by the excitement of playing with cards again has slowly died down and replaced with being frustrated by opponents poor camera quality, setup and bad internet connections. I still love our locals remote duel events but it's slowly grown into more of a chore
Getting into the collecting side of things luckily they announced an official Millennium Puzzle seems like a good place to start for the merch collection
If you don't want a full break, it can also work to switch formats (even if the only really supported one in the TCG is duel links) or switch decks and go to more casual tournaments The stressful part may not be the game, but the hyper-competitiveness
I just got into yugioh 5 months ago now playing meta decks. Way different than playground rules. I don't get the hate right now the game seems amazing.
I don’t really know how to go about playing anymore. Modern yugioh is just really weird for me. I wish there was a large DM-Zexal Era playerbase but that’s not really a thing :(.
Anytime I take a break from yu-gi-oh I usually watch yu-gi-oh or watch other people play, that makes me wanna play again. Especially watching kids play, shit makes ya feel good.
Covid forced me to take a break lol And I'm not well versed in online Yu-Gi-Oh, like Duelingbook, to feel comfortable playing the game online... I have been building decks through covid and kept buying them in bulk. Like, I bought all the Cyber Angel cards at once and spent like $60 (which is an average price of a Cyber Angels deck, I think) and I was like ""Maybe that was a bad idea, cause now I feel broke" lol
I took serval breaks from Yu Gi Oh. The first was in the Early Days of GX main because every Dual Feels Kind of Formulaic especially when it comes to the main Protagonists Jadin and in addition I found him also kind of Annoying at the time. And by the time that I returned it was Early 5Ds. Then after 5Ds Ended for us I took another break just like with the First Break I Don’t Know Why. Life I guess? And I returned just in time for Zexal then after a while I found Yuma really Annoying and Immature in a way. And in addition there where no more Episodes of Zexal for me to watch after the episode where just after the Death of Astral. The channel that I was watching it on stopped Air Zexal Episodes. Then by the time that I returned to Yu Gi Oh it was The Pendulum Era to which to this day I’m still trying to figure whole of the Mechanic out. As for Dual Links the First time that I took a Break from it was when the Swipe To Attack System was really bugging my because often at times when I Swiped the Camera Moved along with me so Annoying. Then the Second time that I Took A Break was when at the time I didn’t know or forgot most likely forgot that I could Copy Past Decks from one to another Character. And so when I switched to Tia I was getting creamed so badly that I decided to take a break. Then The Last time that I Took A Break it’s a little Better now Think You Very Much Konami, was that in the App I was Getting Creamed all because I was Frequently starting with Break Hands, and I always 100 Percent Lose because of it and it got to the point where I was losing something like 3 or 4 Duals in a Row Because if it. And the Deck that I was using was actually playable By The Way. And each time I ‘Took A Break’ I always deleted it and always end up Redownloading it for some reason Despite Not Feeling like much has changed in the App itself aside from less Break Hands Now. And as for the Physical Card Game including Speed Duals I have Never Took A Break from that. But then of course I only Dual Sparingly I always have, and I guess that’s why I’m not really Burnt Out on the Physical Card Games as of yet.
I think this is a big problem with Yugioh content creators (and with other games in general). They're burnt out, and clearly don't enjoy the game anymore, but they continue playing it because it brings money in, or they just like engaging with the community. This creates a big issue because they start to mistake they're burnout with objective flaws with the game, and in worst case scenarios start to fling blame around. It's an issue because people listen to them and take their word seriously due to being content creators; so now their negative feeling spread around a bit, even if they may not be an accurate representation of the actual state of the game.
Soon as links were out all my crap decks went to even more crap. Just got back into it a couple months ago. So hyped and heated because now I'm blowing racks on making a bunch of crap decks again. loll
....But if i am happy keep playing? To expand on upon the main point, taking a break from anything is highly underrated and good for your mental health. Not only that, you will also gain perspective and be better at what you were doing before (gross simplified explanation but the point stands). How underrated? Dinomist, Tenyi, Salamangreat, and Unchained levels of underrated.
My only complant is that all decks and decks types need to be competive they all dont need to be super op decks but you should be able to play any deck agenst each other an have a chance like no more low tir decks there use able agenst each other on more lvls then there is right now
Quit in 2014. My mental health has thanked me. The games power creep was getting too much with coin flips and first turn blowouts becoming way to prevalent.
Jajajaja
To know I used to rock my area in 2010, time passes so fast and the game changed so much.
Best of luck in your journey called Life make the best of it my friend 👍

I took a break to work on a yugioh cube and that actually got me re-excited to play yugioh.
Yu-Gi-Oh cube?
@@Kawaiisikkusu its a custom set of cards that are divided into packs that can be drafted
Love that idea!

Yeah. It become more and more frustrated to me. Now aday I just go to play Mystic Mine to put stress on others.
Such a cancer card 😭 hope the game gets more enjoyable for u in the future
A true menace
Also just being able to sit back and admire the artwork is enough for me
that is really relaxing
I usually slow down a lot the closer we get to summer. Summer is just too busy, especially working construction
I don’t play the card game but as an anime viewer, Sevens is legitimately fun to watch especially with all the stress going on irl with the virus and everything. But yeah YuGiOh is a tough game, there’s nothing wrong with taking a break and come back at better time
I love sevens. I myself just stick to the anime and build character decks. Check out my youtube channel if your interested
I agree with you Paul
Pretty much on a seven year break. A combination of the local store not allowing cash in trades, and getting sick of short prints and rarity bumps. Rescue rabbit getting bumped from rare to secret was a pretty big tipping point.
They don't short print anymore :)
@@Realblack_m0nster the didn't but they increased the amount of secrets in each set so the cards you want are harder to get lol
I took a break in the first 5D's era, just came back this year thanks to legacy of a duelist and I'm really enjoying myself tbh
PS4?
Thankfully stuff like shadowverse scratched my card game itch, and recent anime releases and video game releases have helped as well.
took a break from yugioh around 2006 but i found with Covid hitting seeing how much free time i have now i got back into it and it much more enjoyable learning the new mechanics and even dual links and the anime are so much enjoyable for me seeing how long my break was
same! took a break too around that time as well 😅. It's fun opening packs 👌😂
Havent played since we all know what force all card shops to close down, but now that they are opening back (slowly) I came back to a price tag of + $900 on 9 cards (Lightning Storm, Pot of Prosperity & Forbiden Droplets) just to be able to have a change to play. 😑
I'll just wait until reprint season (mega tins) to come back.
Paul being a life coach here to remind us of certain essential things. 👍
Great video Paul these discussion videos are awesome hope you like making them as much as we like to watch!
I use to yu-gi-oh TCG but now I just play yu-gi-oh duel links.
Cheers!
I took a break just from playing in tournaments and ended up quitting for over six years lmao
Damn hha you still have all your cards?
@@rigoguzman4195 Yep!
I’m young and I’ve taken a few breaks already and I still love yugioh the art, the rules, the strategies all that
Really cool and brave video!
I lost the enthusiasm to play the actual TCG so I'm playing legacy of the duelist duel link whatever the new one is and i enjoy it on that level
Great video topic- I feel when I do play again I need to find someone else to play- just a casual player looking to stay involved so I don't need to stress myself out with my buddy's frustration with the game- I'd really like to go to a local's one day
I took about a 4-6 year break from YGO. I came back and now I have nightmares because my favorite deck isn't getting support
which deck?
@@davidzhou2161 evol. I know it got a card in chaos impact. But it did almost nothing to the deck. It felt like a pity supoort

:)
Still on that break I took in 2018
My break has been since the Orcust danger!
Konami needs the money. xD
My break has been over a year. getting back in is going to be difficult
Been loving the game again
i will never get unhappy
I took a 15 year break. Just got back into it. The long combos seem kinda ridiculous.
Paul dishing out content when I'm trying to sleep, thanks.
My opinion in this video is that you have taken the place of Dzeeff as the best insightful videos. Good job!
I took a break during spyral format. Came back a year later and all was okay!
I've been just doing more casual remote duels since I hate playing against the dragonlink decks in competitive matches.
I'm taking a break till product stabilizes and these inflated scalper prices end
I agree, now is a perfect time for everyone to start playing Mage War
I'm taking a break from dueling. however, I haven't stopped collecting or deck building, keeping up with the meta, etc. I'm more dissatisfied with Konami rather than yugioh separately if that makes sense. remote duels just.....suck all in all.
I just got back form a 7 year break, 9 months ago. I'm doing fine. I have my complaints with the game but I am happy to be playing cards again.
I took one for about a year and played vanguard now I’m back to yugioh and play vanguard as well
Im unhappy with a lack of card selection and hard to find product that's brand new.
When? Where?? Omg
@@rigoguzman4195 It's on Hobby Link Japan and its preorder right now. Saw it on the official twitter.
If you don't want a full break, it can also work to switch formats (even if the only really supported one in the TCG is duel links) or switch decks and go to more casual tournaments
The stressful part may not be the game, but the hyper-competitiveness
I am collecting kaiba cards and that's a lot of fun
Been Taking a break for a few years now, I've been enjoying the Digimon card game more.
I don't think I'll be coming back to Yugioh for a long time.
I just got into yugioh 5 months ago now playing meta decks. Way different than playground rules. I don't get the hate right now the game seems amazing.
I don’t really know how to go about playing anymore. Modern yugioh is just really weird for me. I wish there was a large DM-Zexal Era playerbase but that’s not really a thing :(.
duel links :D
Anytime I take a break from yu-gi-oh I usually watch yu-gi-oh or watch other people play, that makes me wanna play again. Especially watching kids play, shit makes ya feel good.
Covid forced me to take a break lol
And I'm not well versed in online Yu-Gi-Oh, like Duelingbook, to feel comfortable playing the game online... I have been building decks through covid and kept buying them in bulk. Like, I bought all the Cyber Angel cards at once and spent like $60 (which is an average price of a Cyber Angels deck, I think) and I was like ""Maybe that was a bad idea, cause now I feel broke" lol
these videos are gold
Having yugioh as my hobby fits me better. Compete and buy when i want without the stress. I'm not obligated to either only when i want to.
Yea definitely taking a break from Yu-Gi-Oh same here
Soon as links were out all my crap decks went to even more crap.
My only complant is that all decks and decks types need to be competive they all dont need to be super op decks but you should be able to play any deck agenst each other an have a chance like no more low tir decks there use able agenst each other on more lvls then there is right now
Thats what staples and siding is for to bridge the power gap
Quit in 2014. My mental health has thanked me. The games power creep was getting too much with coin flips and first turn blowouts becoming way to prevalent.
