For real. One of those albums that makes you fall in love with music again if you're getting burnt out on it. Was in uni for music and was sort of at that point when I found it.

Preach. My favorite record of all time, IMO the greatest record of all time. Listened to it on repeat when I ran my first ultramarathon. It was a spiritual experience.

I know exoplanet is about space travel and all, but this album musically is alien to me. I cannot comprehend how someone can create this arrangement. This album feels like the drums were written first and then everything else was added. Beyond incredible!!

What’s up man... new subscriber... this is probably gonna be a long mag lol I only recently stumbled upon The Contortionist since I tend to fall down TH-cam rabbit holes often but I find a lot of good bands that way so I ain’t mad about it lol great playing first if all. I am a lifelong bass player as well. I started playing guitar when I was 8 but always wanted to play drums and one day I was compelled to buy a shitty $200 bass and it just felt like home, since I always wanted to be rhythm section and could physically play a guitar already so i took to it immediately. I first started playing live when I was 16, in a thrash band called mortician down here in Miami, fl. Always been a metal head but I’ve played in Afro Cuban funk bands, rock, etc, most recently the metal core band, they might be zombies, who recently got signed to Combat Records, 6 months after I left them. Go figure lol how do you like those Tobias basses? I like how there isn’t much taper to them. The first fret and 24th aren’t much different. I play 89-91 Warwick streamers pretty much. Rhere was no stage 1 and 2 at that point. That’s pretty specific but I’ve played later year models after the company went worldwide but there is just something missing lol it definitely makes it difficult to acquire “new” basses but I have a 4, 5, and 6 string of them so all I’m missing is a fretless. Those original streamers are what would later be called the stage 1, since they have the broader neck which is what I prefer. The other main question I have for you is when you find yourself having to play fast 16th notes, as a finger style player (I am exclusively as well), sometimes it’s just too fast for the right hand... so do you use and up and down stroke with one finger in those cases, or do you do a thumb/index version? I see you use your thumb a lot so I thought maybe that’s what you do. I’m also a little different in that I’m proficient with my ring finger as well. I can use all 3 fingers pretty independently and that comes in handy, but when it’s REALLY fast 16th notes, for obvious reasons it can get a little tough to play with consistent volume across all 3 fingers. It works great for bands like Iron Maiden of course with all the triplets, and ironically Steve Harris uses only 2 fingers for the most part from what I understand. I’ve met him but didn’t get the chance to ask him lol anyway, that’s about it for now. Loved watching this play through. Come on rockin out

  • @neptuned4746

Yeah, alright I'm not a bass player but I've never seen anyone play with "Bass Stank face" but at the same time servicing such incredible melody in his parts. How he manages to fill so much open space but not over crowd what's being played.
I found this band from a former band member and friend who told me he thought he found "The sound you've been looking for".
Since I was in middle school (Before ever picking up an instrument in the early 2000's) I would wake up every morning with this sound in my head that wouldn't go away and I knew I would try to form a band someday to try and get that sound out. I came close a lot of times but the other members never came together, but this is it. This is what it would have sounded like and it gives me chills like you wouldn't believe every time I hear it, and that's just.. Yeah.. Incredible.
I hope you guys continue with this band and for god sakes don't split up. This stuff is going to become music that students study in 80 years and I'll hold on that bet. These albums are classics in the making.
    Much Love.
    -Neptune
