I think this song is really about him. He was an insomniac his entire adult life. It’s about carrying childhood traumas into adulthood. Still not being able to sleep years later because you’re afraid of what happens at night.
I agree with you, I was actually thinking the same thing while listening to it...
His early songs are much more dreamy and happy, but most of later songs are about human vice and dishonesty. This is what the world can do to a soul of a human. Now when I'm just 21 the life for me seems a little magic and dreamlike too. I'm so scary to loose it too after all 💔
So true they really changed his perception of the world like for example his earlier songs were filled with happiness and joy but later his songs were more about injustice,dishonesty, violence, racism, prejudice etc and really sad how the evil people, media, tabloids destroyed him and completely changed his views about the world and his own life these people will one day pay for what they did to him God bless you Michael

Another hidden musical treasure from M.J., This sound track could of been used in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe. The songs on the Narnia sound track are similar in style & arrangement, of Sacred of the moon. A fairy tale type song, for sure. This song represents every child, who had a phobia of some sort, never able to heal, even in adulthood, including M.J., which i believe, this song is first & for most, about him. 😭

This is not a happy song.. or a Disney song which one of the top comments promotes it as.
It definitely ends with some small happiness, that the girl has found others suffering from fear she suffers from. She's not alone. But the pain is real.
The answer is in that last line before that beautiful crescendo of a final chorus. 'but knowing just why they're scared'.
They're not scared of the moon. They're scared of what it relates to. The unforgivable done at night.
In the last verse we know that fear wasn't just a fantasy but a truth. The night brought real darkness.
The moon was blamed throughout the song. Till a group therapy session, it sounds, helps them come to terms with the fact they're scared of the moon. But also 'just why they're scared ... Scared of the moon'.
This is a sad song with some positive about the s.a of children.
The moon I guess it’s just a metaphor, it could have been the wind or the trees or anything else.
This.. it sure SOUNDS like a Disney song, but when you pay close attention to the lyrics, it’s very dark and sad.
