    I live about a mile from the river in Trinidad. Recognized it when I saw the railroad. I have a ancestor that ran a ferry that transported covered wagons, people, and livestock across the river.

    Put in at Cayuga ramp several times and slept on sandbars. Seen my share of gators and moccasins on the Trinity and Sabine. My sister has a place near Big Sandy on the Sabine so that’s pretty much my stomping grounds. But like venturing out. It’s my understanding that around a 13 foot gator was taken about two miles south of the 287 Cayuga bridge. I’ve seen some 10 footers so bound to be bigger. Great video and narration, love seeing what’s around the next bend. The Eagles are plentiful too near 287 bridge, another bonus.

    Dennis, I can't believe you went that far!! I would have loved to join you on that trip. I have a Blazer 16/52 with the same jet drive but I am not as bold as your are...yet!! Looks like that is Lock#7 which my quick research shows was completed in 1917 so it has been there awhile. I think that is the last lock that was built too. Very cool trip for sure.

    Was fishing that area and the water rising fast is an understatement! I've never seen anything like it on a river

      We Fished this same spot during a 18 foot rise and fell back down 8 foot this spring in just 2 days. It was tough. Got 3rd out 30 teams.

    Went and broke piggy bank, Dennis- bought a 60/40 Merc jet like you have. Will be running ona 1848 .125 hull that is of duck boat design. We hunt areas on the West Coast when at times we need a jet more than a mudmotor. If it doesn't work out, then get a jet hull later on. Love to hear your thoughts, good or bad makes no difference. I would rather hear from someone who is honest than an individual who wants to make a sale.....it does have a hunt deck at the transom (transom is 20") just so that is known beforehand.

    • @DennisBohannan
      @DennisBohannan  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think it will do great. Depending on the hull, it may not turn well at faster speeds. You will get the hang of it. What you think bare hull weighs

    • @bobbycrenshaw5167
      @bobbycrenshaw5167 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DennisBohannan Not sure on weight, Dennis- 400 lbs.????💁
      Not as heavy as a .190
      hull for sure, by have seen you on your channel with .190 and .250 hulls testing out the performance. Duck boat hulls usually are heavier at the bow to compensate for the weight of the heavy mudmotors.
      Thanks for your reply.🙏

    Very interesting video. I just happened on this while in FB but this is a really interesting. I liked the timber rattler. Where are you based out of and is your hobby just running up and exploring different rivers? Have you done the Sabine (above Toledo Bend)?
    I have a little experience fishing Maine with a buddy (lived there a few years and still go back) and running jets. (115/90) in an 18' Grumman.
    Very good narration too. Following now.
    OK, saw your Sabine video. Way up north outta my country.

      I live in Mineola, so the upper sabine is home. I catfish in the spring mostly but explore summer and fall. Love the mystery of what is around the bend.

    I’m not gonna lie I was gonna come and comment somethin about how you didn’t hit that one big rapid but then I remembered you have a flat bottom. Great for shallow but I agree I wouldn’t want to hit it in that by myself. Mod-V with 8-9 degrees of deadrise is PERFECT for river boats in my opinion

    • @DennisBohannan
      @DennisBohannan  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, alone and 70 miles from the boat ramp. And you are right this is a shallow water boat. Rapid like that it could make no problem or get swamped in a second.

    I have a lot of questions about jet boats. How do they back up, are they easy to turn left and right in reverse. I have a tunnel hull propped boat and I want to change it to a jet boat.

    • @DennisBohannan
      @DennisBohannan  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They just a have a cup that you flip over. Easy amd fast amd reverse works great. A lot of reverse thrust.

    Dennis what’s your opinion on a tunnel vs no tunnel I just got a new to me custom alweld they built for a guy it’s a 1250 flat with a tunnel but I feel like the tunnel is way to big for it and I’m going to cut the tunnel out and make it smaller but not sure on a size it should be. Any advise would help thank you brother.

    • @DennisBohannan
      @DennisBohannan  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I like not having a tunnel. Especially on a smaller boat. You lose too much buoyancy. Also, lose a lot of lift when on plane. Motor set correctly in a flat bottom does great unless you're rock crawling. Eletric trim is luxury as well.

    • @user-vj2vz1in7m
      @user-vj2vz1in7m 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I do sometimes haha the tunnel on it is 4” deep and 16” wide more like for a prob I think but I suck up a lot of air i tho k cause the boat don’t weigh enough to get it down in the water cause it only sits 4” in the water. Has a 25 mariner on it but looking for a 50/30 with electric trim

    • @user-vj2vz1in7m
      @user-vj2vz1in7m 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Blows out so bad it’ll only run about 17 but I know it should run around 25 or so and the rivers we have down here I was thinking about like a 1 3/4-2” tunnel just cause I don’t have trim yet

    Why does your engine sound like its hitting a rev limiter when you go over rapids?

    • @DennisBohannan
      @DennisBohannan  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Because it is hitting the rev limiter. Any time the pump loses it prime of water, it revs too high.
