This run beats the former World Record held by Uramatsu by 8 seconds and finally breaks the 1:02:xx barrier! Overall, this was a beautiful run, though there were still a handful of time losses. The DLC segment of the run for example had quite a few sloppy fights, and we lost time from playing overcautiously on a few late game fights (like Dr. Kahl). The saving grace of this run was nailing both Beppi glitch and Sally glitch with minimal time loss. I also decided to play King Dice and The Devil with Ms. Chalice (instead of Mugman + Whetstone) since it's significantly more consistent even though it is slightly slower in terms of timesave potential. I do intend on pushing this time down to a lower 1:02:xx since there's still a decent chunk of timesave out there.
Some commonly asked questions:
Q: How are you able to play on Expert without beating the game first?
A: Speedrunners use something called the "Fresh Expert" glitch for Expert mode categories. Basically, if you have a save file where you've already beaten the game, you access that first and select a boss. On the difficulty select, you put the cursor over "Expert" (no need to actually fight the boss), and then back out and Exit to Title. When you start a new file you will begin the game on Expert.
Q: Why do you fight all of the King Dice minibosses?
A: While they technically don't contribute to file percentage, we decided in the speedrunning community to include them in the 300% category since it fills out the Checklist in the menu. That's also the same reason we require buying all the weapons/charms despite them not contributing to file percentage either; it's just nice looking from a completionist perspective!
Q: Where can I find the leaderboards for this game/category?
A: www.speedrun.c... for the main game leaderboards. For this category specifically you can find the times www.speedrun.c... and then select 300%

I know he probably won't answer but why didn't he do the secret boss phase in the genie level? How did he avoid the stone eye screen wipe? He was right in front of her. How do the mausoleum work? Does Mangosteen not have a hurt box? Are the cards on the crane fight random? Is the devil random? I'm sorry for asking so many questions I'm just curious I have the game but I want to be better at it also congrats for the sub 1:03
@@honedaychannel secret phase for the genie is slower than doing the fight normally.
For Cala Maria the gaze in the final phase doesn’t hit you if you stay close to her; it only hits if you’re beyond a certain distance.
Mausoleums are broken into 3 sub-phases, each of which have 7 “waves” of ghosts. How many ghosts are in each wave vary by mausoleum and by phase.
Mangosteen does not have a hurt box which is why you can safely jump into its face with no issues.
By Crane Fight do you mean the monkey miniboss during the King Dice gauntlet? There are 12 different card patterns if I remember correctly, so it’s not completely random.
The Devil has a set cycle of attacks but picks a random starting point in the cycle each fight. So it’s not completely random, but the cycle of attacks is so long it basically seems random (I think it’s something like a 21 attack cycle if you count different attack variations).

@@mechamelody sub 1 hour is definitely too optimistic. I could manage a low 1:02:xx or maybe a very high 1:01:xx for a best case scenario, but anything below that is pretty unreasonable with current strats. There would have to be major discoveries to realistically push the time down any further beyond that.

Can someone explain why he fights every King Dice mini-boss instead of just doing 3 of them? Does it decrease King Dice's HP or something?
If you dond defeat all of them, you not gonna have the 300% of the speedrun. Thats why he does all bosses an mini bosses.
In another category like "any %" you can doing just the necesary battles to finish the game.
