      I have slight problem with this lesson, I know nothing about modes or any theory and haven't learned any scales, so I'm outgunned and doomed to lose this debate, however, from a novice/failed/stuck in the traps dude, I know all about the difficulties. So, when people like me search 'Triads' we are probably thinking 'easy 3 string improvised chords' as well 'versatile', 'easy replications along the whole neck' .. but ultimately a way to get a song out in a more improvised way. Not arguing about your approach Brian and it is helpful and it is thanks to you I am still persevering and really any lesson is beneficial ... but ... I'm not really into playing backing loops or anywhere near a band or hitting anything vaguely 'really good' .. just hoping for some tricks to improvise, maybe cheat a bit as in compromise perfection in exchange for finding a way to bash out a song more easily .. as in grab a few easy chord's and chord theory. Ultimately I'm inspired by finding ways to play rythymn but also the 'lead' though only really simple harmonies and fills ... which to my thinking quicker/easier 3 string chords could really help with. Very interesting to learn what a 'triad' is, though this lesson teaches chords and the '3 notes structure' of a chord, my idea of 'triads' is ways to improvise with '3 string chords'. Remember many of us are using poorer more difficult to play cheap guitars .. this is also why we need easier ways to get to a song, not perfection but just an easier way which can help us to do fills around these 3 string 'triads', maybe what i am thinking has another name though i've found other tutors who seem to be on the same page as my thinking and say the same things .. cheats, short cuts, improvisations whatever to help us push our boundaries more in some ways.

    A very helpful hack I created is sort of a mnemonic for CAGED.
    It goes like this:
    CAGED
    C4, A5, G1, E2 and D3.
    Once you memorize that (letter with the number), you can instantly know that, e.g., if you are playing the C shape, you are in the 4th position of the Pentatonic Scale. Play A shape, it is the 5th position and so on. Very practical and useful.

    There’s many good music teachers, in Triads, but we want to understand it on real time of music. There is sometimes too much elements to explain. We lost the essence of triads. So 1 picture give 1000 words. And you show some kind of using triads on tune, track, song. It’s easier to undrestand. Bravo Brian !

  • @r0bophonic
    @r0bophonic ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great explanation! I think a lot of beginners get confused by the advice “you must learn your triads”, by which the teacher means learn where to find all the 3-note major and minor triads all over the neck, on each set of 3 adjacent strings. This is often described as an alternative or supplement to learning the fretboard via the CAGED system. Would be curious to hear your thoughts and how you would approach that task.

    • @zombieguitar
      @zombieguitar  ปีที่แล้ว

      You you're exactly right. I wanted to make sure that this idea that "triad" = ONLY 3 note combinations of R 3 5 was debunked. I've mentioned the "3 note cluster" approach in my "8 ways to visualize the fretboard" video 😁th-cam.com/video/rS4I4U725ck/w-d-xo.html

      Thank's Brian. You have a really unique talent for teaching, I'm of the slightly ''older''' generation so the whole social media thing is not really mine, I've seen a lot of so called teachers who really should have stayed with their day jobs. You're to the point and you'r logical explanations are simply a world apart from others. As mentioned before your lessons somehow stand as individual sections while they also tie to previous and future. Don't know quite how you do that but it's magic.

  • @cancelbubble6535
    @cancelbubble6535 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great stuff. Re: the Hotel California capo you mentioned, how about a lesson on using the capo in regards to transposing keys (I guess is what it does)? I know it basically just moves the nut around, but how do musicians leverage that in their songs?

    • @zombieguitar
      @zombieguitar  ปีที่แล้ว

      A capo can be used to change keys to suit a singers voice. However, in this example the song is always in B minor...Capo on 7th, no capo on 7th or "simplified triads" as used in this video...it's always B minor!

  • @MOAB-UT
    @MOAB-UT ปีที่แล้ว

    The real magic is then being able to jump into the scale for each chord change. The Triads shown are part of a scale- knowing where you are in that scale is important e.g., which position. Otherwise, Triads are just random groupings on the fretboard when they are part of a scale. It makes it easier to actually play them. Just picking a few random triad chords will get old quickly IMHO. You need to learn how to connect everything. So in every song, I am not just playing ONE key. I am playing the triad tones and within their key, at the right time, then perhaps jumping back into the main scale. Even with the various chords (triads) and their key(s), there are always complimentary tones (shared tones) between them and the other chords. Has something to do with the circle of 5ths and guitar theory. Main thing to know is that it just works.

    • @zombieguitar
      @zombieguitar  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup and this is EXACTLY why I make it my life's purpose to make sure that everyone who watches my vids knows to differentiate between "layer 1" (the scale) and "layer 2" (the chord tones).
      In a song that remains in just one single key, layer 1 remains constant, while layer 2 is constantly changing 😁

    • @MOAB-UT
      @MOAB-UT ปีที่แล้ว

    Seems once again that you really have to know immediately where every note on every fret is. This is so difficult to do "off the Cuff" as it were. This really is holding me back. I can't find notes in any position quick enough to play live as it were. The only way I know would be to write everything down in say a TAB and play from that. If, having learnt a song in say G and the singer says "I sing in Bb" I would have to walk away and transcribe into another key (unless of course I was just playing chords and used a CAPO). Whew I think Penny Whistle may be easier!!!

      It's like anything else you have to learn - Just keep doing it - trust me it will sink in. (I'm a guitar teacher of 40+years so have taught lots of pupils, and if you try and learn it you will succeed!). Try learning the notes on one string at a time. It's not as hard as you think - after all they are all in the same order on every string, just starting at a different note - apart from the 2 E strings! After a while you will know all the notes "off the cuff". And the notes A - G are all 2 frets apart, except B to C and E to F which are 1 fret apart. I just started teaching someone in their 60s and he's got this basic knowledge in a week or so.
