But cry not from feeling bad for him but from how good of a guy he really is underneath, kind, gentle, sincere, sweet, fun/funny too at times, respectful, really thinks of charlotte as an equal? And many other qualities that make him someone you want to know and love, and be loved by too! I thought gosh if I ever found someone like that I'd cry from disbelief! But he evokes also much sympathy towards him bc of his events in life and fears bc of them, bc he seems still so sweet/vulnerable bc of it and remained a nice guy, you'd cry from compassion 💖❤🥰

These two have such a deep chemistry. I have never seen such chemistry on a show before. It is beautiful. I was heartbroken to hear this morning that there won't be a season 4. Why must a show this good be ended???
I must admit I am excited about the possibility of these two connecting...was disappointed about Season 1, but now looking forward to Season 3 with anticipation! Good choice in casting Alexander Colbourne.
I love that this season is better written than the first. All characters well developed like Arthur, Georgiana. I love Alexander, he is the perfect match for Charlotte and their chemistry is million times more than what she had with Sydney. I was one of those who thought Syd was much better looking, but now see that Ben has amazing talent becomes more handsome as their relationship develops. I even thought maybe 2 actors might be in love in real life. I think Ben is real talent. I watched him in other show "Industry". He had small part but still shined.

I fully expected this kind of ending of the season for her. But I must say that the second half of episode 6 felt very rushed. Take Alison. One moment she's smitten with Carter, the next day she's head over heels about Frasier. Idk, that just went way too fast for me to be a believable storyline. I wish that they had given them more time and her slowly warming up to him. Her discovering and becoming more aware of the incredible man captain Frasier is. And thén realising that she loves him. Esther got her son!( I so hoped for Babington to show up) I'm glad that Clara decided to do the right thing. But even that storyline felt rushed. Oh, Colbourne...He broke his own heart. And ours.To protect Charlotte, thinking he's doing right by her. Little does he know...The man needs healing. Big time. (And I for one am going to be there to witness it all next season. Front row) AND CHARLOTTE IS NÓT GOING TO MARY THAT FARMER GUY. No way. I forbid it!!

I was the one rooting for just recasting him. I wasn't so excited for a show to come back and considering watching it in unforeseeable future. But then I saw your first video of them. And boy, I was a goner. I'm obsessed. I took the night to watched it. And I just love Colbourne. Very Austenesque. A perfect misguided pigheaded hero, he reminds me a little of Mr Darcy. And their chemistry is off the charts. I was waiting for Bridgerton and was a little dissatisfied, never even occurred to me that these two, not Kathony, will rule my ass. I saw that people are fricking out about time jump and Charlotte marrying what's his name, and meeting Colbourne again after long time, but I'm calm. Writers are gonna deliver, we will get our happy ending.
Yeah I loved the book on Kanthony more than the series, the actors chemistry was sublime but wanted more focus on them (even tho I am a massive Polin fan - but that's obv changed due to plot too now) But yeah I was gutted when theo said he wasn't coming back but actually since the first episode I've not missed him. I've enjoyed Charlotte's development from girl to woman, and love Colbourne and his lack of self esteem 🙃 ❤️❤️

I thought he was constantly apologizing too It would make a great team drinking game. Binge watch all episodes. One team has to take a drink everytime he apologizes or "regrets his words" . The other team drinks everytime he says something where you know Charlotte is thinking to herself "***hole. don't get me wrong. I love Colbourne and Charlotte. I like his character better than Sidney's. I think the writers did a better job on developing this relationship. I am hoping for a clever way to get them back together. Perhaps a conspiracy between Lady Susan, Augusta, Leonora, and Mrs Wheatley. I'd even throw Luna and Hannibal in that mix.

She will have to break off with the local man (honor) since she told the Colonel she didn't love him and could not consider marriage (her reason in addition to she wasn't interested in marriage). So it would appear to be dishonest of her to proceed with Ralph--against her character. She also told Alexander she knew heartbreak and betrayal... so she felt betrayed by Sidney...Plot question, why didn't Sidney have his belongings shipped to his wife? What's that story? We'll see Eliza Parker next year when she comes in looking for her money or interest. Or at least her lawyer. Ben Lloyd-Hughes is absolutely adorable, here and in an earlier group interview. Charming and handsome and so vulnerable. At this point, there was nothing for Charlotte to do--the power is in his hands, men's, as was for all of them of that time. She could not return as a teacher--he's kissed her and that isn't going to stop if she is near him. I don't think though we have seen the last of Lennox (a Capt Tilney archetype?). My guess is he will encounter Augusta in town and lure her off to revenge his belief that Colbourne has succeeded with Charlotte. He already noticed her at the garden party and said she was the image of Lucy (her mother's sister). He's vengeful, but there is more to him--he did not tell Lenora he was her father to hurt Alexander. He did not cheat at cards or renege on his wager. He does like to mess with Alexander's head though, cat and mouse. We've been shown he thinks strategic (card game) and doesn't lose on the battlefield (garden party and proposal ball)--"all is fair in love and war". Absolutely, Alexander and Charlotte's relationship is a more mature--but my heart broke for them in that drawing room scene when he failed to declare himself but leaned on everyone else as his reason for being there. Vulnerable and damaged. It is amazing that fans were the force behind this production, what a gift! And this story is even better. Beautiful video. Thank you.
I’m with you about Lennox deceiving Augusta but more like Wickham eloping scheme. Colbourne is definitely damaged. I was thinking Charlotte was sincere in rejecting him bc of his disrespect towards her. Regarding Ralph I agree too. In reference to Sidney’s belongings I would expect the patriarchy to receive his goods that’s who the lawyers recognize
Sidney had his things sent to his brother because he had messages for him that were just for him. The colonel will certainly not meet Augusta, because her uncle and the girls left town. Charlotte's father demands that his daughter marry Ralph. It was an arranged wedding. Whether she will marry him is a question. Charlotte is unlucky with men. Sidney had to sacrifice himself for his family and died. Alexander is afraid of his feelings and future, so he destroyed not only his happiness. James loved her, but she loved another. Then she didn't meet him again because he went to London.

My guess is that by now most of us know that Alexander Colbourne is the perfect man for Charlotte Heywood. Alexander and Charlotte compliment and complete each other beautifully. Fate has a strange and surprising way of guiding us along on our journey. Who would have guessed that S1 would have ended as it did or that the scriptwriter and casting crew would have been forced to take an entirely different and unfamiliar path-which, in my opinion, has led to a far more interesting and reward destination? But, as fate would have it, Charlotte's romance with Sidney Parker and his betrayal in order to marry the wealthy Eliza Campion (who had done the same thing to him a few years earlier) better prepared Charlotte for the older, more experienced, and wiser Alexander Colbourne who would be attracted to and fall in love with her. Not long into S2, it becomes clear that both Charlotte and Colbourne are surprised and thrown off kilter by their romantic attraction to each other. She and he had both sworn off love and marriage after falling in love and then being betrayed. At the end of S2, we're left wondering why exactly did Colbourne force Charlotte to leave her governess position, and why did Charlotte not allow Colbourne to finish whatever he started to say to her in the Parker home. All we do know is that she and he made a choice, and now they are both unhappy with their lives. We know what Charlotte wants, but what does Colbourne want? He's confusing us. Ah! The look on Alexander Colbourne's face when he sees Charlotte again in S3 makes it quite clear that Colbourne now knows exactly what he wants. The looming questions for S3 are-Can he still get her? If so, how? So, I am definitely looking forward to Season 3. For anyone who hasn't been able to put enough of the pieces together and is still trying to make sense of Charlotte and Colbourne's love story, here is a guide. Like Charlotte Heywood, Alexander Colbourne is a compelling character. Obviously, Colbourne is not pining for his dead wife who married him for his money, knowing that she and Lennox were in love with each other (which is why Lennox told Charlotte that Colbourne stole Lucy from him). However, Colbourne does deeply regret having spoken so harshly to Lucy when he discovered her infidelity and that she was pregnant with Lennox's child. He believes that what he said to Lucy was so damaging that it destroyed her will to live. So, he feels responsible for her death and for Leo not having a mother. Colbourne's compassionate heart and strong conscience have not allowed him to forgive himself-even after all these years. In S2 we see how compassionately Colbourne treats his horse and his dog, and how he tries to shield his daughter and his niece-and now Charlotte-from himself. Colbourne is apparently afraid of ever destroying anyone again, so he puts up barriers between himself and anyone that he loves. Charlotte helped Colbourne to begin tearing down those barriers that separate him from the people that he loves. But now Charlotte is one of those people-so we see Colbourne as he struggles with his internal conflict between his desire to have Charlotte and his desire to protect her from himself. Interestingly, it is not until Colonel Lennox tells Colbourne that Charlotte is in love with him that he realizes that she is indeed in love with him, and therefore she needs to be protected from him. Because Charlotte is so unique-she is neither meek nor submissive-Colbourne hadn't noticed the outward signs of her feelings about him. During the time that Jane Austen wrote, men who did not intend to marry often wore a signet ring (engraved with their initials) on the pinky of their left hand-just as Alexander Colbourne does. Colbourne often twists the signet ring that he wears on his left hand and appears to be thinking. My guess is that is yet another reason why he chose to dismiss Charlotte. Colbourne knows that he is in love with Charlotte, and it is obvious that he desires her. The way he kisses her makes that quite clear. After Colonel Lennox told Colbourne that Charlotte is in love with him, Colbourne realized that, as her employer she might submit to his desires because he is in a position of authority over her. Now that he knows how he feels about her and how she feels about him, allowing Charlotte to remain his subordinate would have been highly unethical. Since Colbourne-unlike Lennox-is a man of integrity, he could not bring himself to allow her to continue to be his subordinate, and therefore subject to his will. That's why he forces Charlotte to leave, even after she acknowledges that she was a willing participant during their romantic moments. Since Alexander Colbourne is a man of integrity, he knew he had to let her go-even though he obviously wants her. Colbourne went to the Parkers' home to ask her to return because Augusta begged him to do so, not because he believed that was the right thing to do. (Colbourne told Augusta that she doesn't understand-which, of course, is true. Augusta doesn't know that her uncle is in love with Charlotte and that Charlotte is in love with him.) Colbourne did not object to what Charlotte said because he knew that she made the right decision, even though she made that decision because she believes that she means nothing to him. Of course, that is not true. This is a man who clearly is deeply in love with Charlotte. When Colbourne goes to see Charlotte with the intention of asking her to return, Charlotte also makes the right decision. Sadly, at the end of Season 2, we were left with two people who are deeply in love with each other-and absolutely miserable because of the choice they had to make. The good news is-Season 3 is yet to come and now they both know they are in love and unhappy without the other person.

Just wanted to comment on your brilliant video! I am a bit late on the bandwagon as Season 2 has not long finished airing on ITV in the UK. I really hope they give this pairing more screen time together in season 3 and make them the main storyline, I just felt there were not enough episodes in Season 2 and they were trying to fit too many other storylines in! Sometimes, in those days, a younger twin is considered evil by their family (hence evil twin) perhaps the twins had been separated since childhood to give the older better chances. This may account for the difference in life events?? I'm likely wrong, just throwing it out there.
I think the the theory on that was he was married to someone else, Sidney had moved on and it probably wanted right. He had a wife to mourn him. He made peace with his brother regarding his sacrifice, which was important to convey. Additionally, I think the writers wanted to move on too, to draw a line under it all. But you never know, maybe they find another letter in his belongings somewhere which they find in season 3.
That would be awesome actually if there’s a letter addressed to Charlotte, where Sidney states and apologizes for in a way betraying Charlotte and that he is letting her go for her to move on. Charlotte really needs this especially since we learned from the last episode of season 2 where Charlotte tells Colborne that she too felt betrayal. She trusted Sidney to marry her but he decided the future for her even thou it was for good intentions but still she couldn’t help but feel abandoned and betrayed. And I know Colborne for sure will realize that he practically did the same to Charlotte and he fixes things in season 3. Colbourne really needs to find out about how things went with Charlotte and Sidney, it will help him understand Charlotte more and where she’s coming from.
@@darinakuchinskaya1164 yes that would be good. However, I think there is more to why Colbourne pushes Charlotte away, and I think it is to with his father and his past. He stated that it was better for her. He was trying to protect her, but didn't give her a rationale as to why so she could actually make that decision. Miscommunication. I think explanations will come out through his brother, who everyone seems to think will be in season 3.
@@aec334 I think you're probably right, but in some ways to me it's also a poor scenaristic move (if they intend to do nothing is S3 ofc). Because now it feels like he didn't hold anything for Charlotte anymore, not even sorry feelings for the reason why they parted and the fact she was in fact his true love. It's just feels odd when Charlotte still has so much pain related to him and feels betrayed. I would have imagined some words written for her on his deathbed, like he'll always love her but she needs to find happiness blablabla. Haha but I like Alexander, he's decent!

Alexander is the man who captured her heart and loves her in return as well. Once the usual phrase of misunderstanding and chaotic over they live happily ever!!. I wish they would release season 3 straight away instead of making us wait a year! Especially since we have waited so long for season 2 and Charlotte's happy ending.

She will have to break off with the local man (honor) since she told the Colonel she didn't love him and could not consider marriage (her reason in addition to she wasn't interested in marriage). So it would appear to be dishonest of her to proceed with Ralph--against her character. She also told Alexander she knew heartbreak and betrayal... so she felt betrayed by Sidney...Plot question, why didn't Sidney have his belongings shipped to his wife? What's that story? We'll see Eliza Parker next year when she comes in looking for her money or interest. Or at least her lawyer. Ben Lloyd-Hughes is absolutely adorable, here and in an earlier group interview. Charming and handsome and so vulnerable. At this point, there was nothing for Charlotte to do--the power is in his hands, men's, as was for all of them of that time. She could not return as a teacher--he's kissed her and that isn't going to stop if she is near him. I don't think though we have seen the last of Lennox (a Capt Tilney archetype?). My guess is he will encounter Augusta in town and lure her off to revenge his belief that Colbourne has succeeded with Charlotte. He already noticed her at the garden party and said she was the image of Lucy (her mother's sister). He's vengeful, but there is more to him--he did not tell Lenora he was her father to hurt Alexander. He did not cheat at cards or renege on his wager. He does like to mess with Alexander's head though, cat and mouse. We've been shown he thinks strategic (card game) and doesn't lose on the battlefield (garden party and proposal ball)--"all is fair in love and war". Absolutely, Alexander and Charlotte's relationship is a more mature--but my heart broke for them in that drawing room scene when he failed to declare himself but leaned on everyone else as his reason for being there. Vulnerable and damaged. It is amazing that fans were the force behind this production, what a gift! And this story is even better. Beautiful video. Thank you.
I’m with you about Lennox deceiving Augusta but more like Wickham eloping scheme. Colbourne is definitely damaged. I was thinking Charlotte was sincere in rejecting him bc of his disrespect towards her. Regarding Ralph I agree too. In reference to Sidney’s belongings I would expect the patriarchy to receive his goods that’s who the lawyers recognize

Sidney had his things sent to his brother because he had messages for him that were just for him. The colonel will certainly not meet Augusta, because her uncle and the girls left town. Charlotte's father demands that his daughter marry Ralph. It was an arranged wedding. Whether she will marry him is a question. Charlotte is unlucky with men. Sidney had to sacrifice himself for his family and died. Alexander is afraid of his feelings and future, so he destroyed not only his happiness. James loved her, but she loved another. Then she didn't meet him again because he went to London.

My guess is that by now most of us know that Alexander Colbourne is the perfect man for Charlotte Heywood. Alexander and Charlotte compliment and complete each other beautifully. Fate has a strange and surprising way of guiding us along on our journey. Who would have guessed that S1 would have ended as it did or that the scriptwriter and casting crew would have been forced to take an entirely different and unfamiliar path-which, in my opinion, has led to a far more interesting and reward destination? But, as fate would have it, Charlotte's romance with Sidney Parker and his betrayal in order to marry the wealthy Eliza Campion (who had done the same thing to him a few years earlier) better prepared Charlotte for the older, more experienced, and wiser Alexander Colbourne who would be attracted to and fall in love with her.
Not long into S2, it becomes clear that both Charlotte and Colbourne are surprised and thrown off kilter by their romantic attraction to each other. She and he had both sworn off love and marriage after falling in love and then being betrayed. At the end of S2, we're left wondering why exactly did Colbourne force Charlotte to leave her governess position, and why did Charlotte not allow Colbourne to finish whatever he started to say to her in the Parker home. All we do know is that she and he made a choice, and now they are both unhappy with their lives.
We know what Charlotte wants, but what does Colbourne want? He's confusing us. Ah! The look on Alexander Colbourne's face when he sees Charlotte again in S3 makes it quite clear that Colbourne now knows exactly what he wants. The looming questions for S3 are-Can he still get her? If so, how? So, I am definitely looking forward to Season 3.
For anyone who hasn't been able to put enough of the pieces together and is still trying to make sense of Charlotte and Colbourne's love story, here is a guide.
Like Charlotte Heywood, Alexander Colbourne is a compelling character. Obviously, Colbourne is not pining for his dead wife who married him for his money, knowing that she and Lennox were in love with each other (which is why Lennox told Charlotte that Colbourne stole Lucy from him). However, Colbourne does deeply regret having spoken so harshly to Lucy when he discovered her infidelity and that she was pregnant with Lennox's child. He believes that what he said to Lucy was so damaging that it destroyed her will to live. So, he feels responsible for her death and for Leo not having a mother. Colbourne's compassionate heart and strong conscience have not allowed him to forgive himself-even after all these years.
In S2 we see how compassionately Colbourne treats his horse and his dog, and how he tries to shield his daughter and his niece-and now Charlotte-from himself. Colbourne is apparently afraid of ever destroying anyone again, so he puts up barriers between himself and anyone that he loves. Charlotte helped Colbourne to begin tearing down those barriers that separate him from the people that he loves. But now Charlotte is one of those people-so we see Colbourne as he struggles with his internal conflict between his desire to have Charlotte and his desire to protect her from himself. Interestingly, it is not until Colonel Lennox tells Colbourne that Charlotte is in love with him that he realizes that she is indeed in love with him, and therefore she needs to be protected from him. Because Charlotte is so unique-she is neither meek nor submissive-Colbourne hadn't noticed the outward signs of her feelings about him.
During the time that Jane Austen wrote, men who did not intend to marry often wore a signet ring (engraved with their initials) on the pinky of their left hand-just as Alexander Colbourne does. Colbourne often twists the signet ring that he wears on his left hand and appears to be thinking. My guess is that is yet another reason why he chose to dismiss Charlotte. Colbourne knows that he is in love with Charlotte, and it is obvious that he desires her. The way he kisses her makes that quite clear. After Colonel Lennox told Colbourne that Charlotte is in love with him, Colbourne realized that, as her employer she might submit to his desires because he is in a position of authority over her. Now that he knows how he feels about her and how she feels about him, allowing Charlotte to remain his subordinate would have been highly unethical. Since Colbourne-unlike Lennox-is a man of integrity, he could not bring himself to allow her to continue to be his subordinate, and therefore subject to his will. That's why he forces Charlotte to leave, even after she acknowledges that she was a willing participant during their romantic moments.
Since Alexander Colbourne is a man of integrity, he knew he had to let her go-even though he obviously wants her. Colbourne went to the Parkers' home to ask her to return because Augusta begged him to do so, not because he believed that was the right thing to do. (Colbourne told Augusta that she doesn't understand-which, of course, is true. Augusta doesn't know that her uncle is in love with Charlotte and that Charlotte is in love with him.) Colbourne did not object to what Charlotte said because he knew that she made the right decision, even though she made that decision because she believes that she means nothing to him. Of course, that is not true. This is a man who clearly is deeply in love with Charlotte.
When Colbourne goes to see Charlotte with the intention of asking her to return, Charlotte also makes the right decision. Sadly, at the end of Season 2, we were left with two people who are deeply in love with each other-and absolutely miserable because of the choice they had to make.
The good news is-Season 3 is yet to come and now they both know they are in love and unhappy without the other person.

Just wanted to comment on your brilliant video! I am a bit late on the bandwagon as Season 2 has not long finished airing on ITV in the UK. I really hope they give this pairing more screen time together in season 3 and make them the main storyline, I just felt there were not enough episodes in Season 2 and they were trying to fit too many other storylines in! On another note, if you ever make another vid about them, I have the perfect song ... 'All you Never Say' by Birdy. Really relevant lyrics and a bit angsty/emotional! 😊

Her mom was Lucy’s twin so I don’t get Augusta’s age. Did her mom give birth at 10-15yrs of age? That’s me being generous in my calculations too.

Sometimes, in those days, a younger twin is considered evil by their family (hence evil twin) perhaps the twins had been separated since childhood to give the older better chances. as much as their ship slowly grew up on me, I sill can't recover the fact that the last letter from Sidney was not even mentioning her once...
I think the the theory on that was he was married to someone else, Sidney had moved on and it probably wanted right. He had a wife to mourn him. He made peace with his brother regarding his sacrifice, which was important to convey.
Additionally, I think the writers wanted to move on too, to draw a line under it all.
But you never know, maybe they find another letter in his belongings somewhere which they find in season 3.
That would be awesome actually if there’s a letter addressed to Charlotte, where Sidney states and apologizes for in a way betraying Charlotte and that he is letting her go for her to move on. Charlotte really needs this especially since we learned from the last episode of season 2 where Charlotte tells Colborne that she too felt betrayal. She trusted Sidney to marry her but he decided the future for her even thou it was for good intentions but still she couldn’t help but feel abandoned and betrayed. And I know Colborne for sure will realize that he practically did the same to Charlotte and he fixes things in season 3. Colbourne really needs to find out about how things went with Charlotte and Sidney, it will help him understand Charlotte more and where she’s coming from.
@@darinakuchinskaya1164 yes that would be good. However, I think there is more to why Colbourne pushes Charlotte away, and I think it is to with his father and his past. He stated that it was better for her. He was trying to protect her, but didn't give her a rationale as to why so she could actually make that decision. Miscommunication. I think explanations will come out through his brother, who everyone seems to think will be in season 3.
@@aec334 I think you're probably right, but in some ways to me it's also a poor scenaristic move (if they intend to do nothing is S3 ofc). Because now it feels like he didn't hold anything for Charlotte anymore, not even sorry feelings for the reason why they parted and the fact she was in fact his true love. It's just feels odd when Charlotte still has so much pain related to him and feels betrayed. I would have imagined some words written for her on his deathbed, like he'll always love her but she needs to find happiness blablabla. Haha but I like Alexander, he's decent!
