What a treasure and a miracle to behold this on my screen. "Every day of my life that is not spent in your company is a day wasted." "Stay. Make a life with me." Powerful beyond words. Sublime beyond words. I wish I could adequately express how grateful I am to see this but my words fail. Thank you from my heart for this community and for the opportunity to share this, together. ❤❤❤
I loved that too. That headshake! He wasn't giving up! The thing I most loved about Colbourne after all he'd been thru is he fought for love! His courage to step out of his shell and fight for love! THAT dear friends is what real love does.
Xander ‘shooting his shot’ was incredibly brave given his relationship history; his declaration to Charlotte was so moving. Not to mention the pleading🥹in his voice as he asks her to stay and make a life with him. I love that he finally got out of his head and told Charlotte how he felt even though he had no way of knowing how she would react. Charlotte was naturally upset because she knows she’s in love with him but because of her strong morals feels she must stand by the commitment to Ralph and her parents. I really felt for both characters in this scene…heartbreaking, fortunately where there’s a will there’s a way 😉
Charlette turns alexander down out of duty....both, of them are of strong moral character, even if to detriment tothemselves... what makes us admire them, true jane austen style 😊
Even though I really enjoy what leads up to this scene, Augusta being comforted by Leonora, Edward writing a letter to her, Georgiana thinking about Otis and burning his contact info, I like how you put this together because we can really focus on just the two of them. For me, having studied and pursued a career in acting years ago, what makes this scene work so well are her conflicting feelings about him. This is a man who broke her heart a few months before this scene. While she knows she is still drawn to him, so much so that she kisses him, she's fighting her feelings and she doesn't know if she can trust him. I paused the video after he said "Stay, make a life with me" and the look in her eyes said it all. All the emotions were there. Excellent acting by both of them!
Oh, that speech! The "stay. Make a life with me." That gets me everytime. I just wish that he called Charlotte by her name in this scene instead of by miss Heywood. Saying something like "I tried to deny it but, I am in love with you Charlotte." To me that would have made the scene even more romantic
Right!! or even Charlotte Heywood. Its acutally the only thing I don't like about this scene. Hasn't stopped me rewatching this episode multiple times since the 19th however. lol
YES! It would have been great to hear him say her first name just once particularly in this scene! Oh but the emotion in his voice from beginning to end, and his shocked reaction after she asks, "Then why didn't you?!" was just perfect!
With all due respect, I like that Colbourne doesn't call her Charlotte in this scene. I find it kind of sweet and very in character. He's doing this thing that is so beyond the bounds of propriety (confessing his love to an engaged woman), yet he still observes the rules by calling her "Miss Heywood." Colbourne is NOT Sidney, an outlier who often breaks the rules of decorum. Colbourne obeys the rules, even to his own detriment, and that's why it's so exciting (and sexy!) when he finally lets himself break them in this scene.
Happiest birthday BLH. You have brought us so much joy (and longing). Your bright career is ahead of you and we can’t wait to see you in many more such shows that bring out your immense talent… 💕
I agree! I've lost count of how many times I've watched this scene. I pursued a career as an actress when I was Rose's age many years ago and I know how difficult scenes like this one are to do and to do well! They both nailed this scene and knocked it out of the park for a homerun (American baseball phrase! 😊). Nice to see a gent who likes Sanditon! I went over to your YT channel, listened to your piano videos, enjoyed them and subscribed.
Xander walking toward her on that cliff top is ten times better than Mr. Darcy walking through the mist in 2005 Pride and Prejudice! 😍 It sounds crazy but I actually like that Charlotte turns him down this time because it shows how strong her sense of morality and loyalty is, she genuinely believes in the importance of keeping your word and honoring your promises and to be fair Xander jerked her around at the end of last season for reasons she’s not aware of. Then when they finally get their happy ending later it’s because they’ve resolved their own issues and are both in a good place for a relationship…it makes it so much more satisfying an ending! ❤❤❤
Yes, she did rise up on her tiptoes to kiss him! That's part of what makes this scene so memorable. The drama and conflict for them also makes it memorable. Both characters have high principles and integrity, so to see them struggling with their feelings for one another pulls at our heartstrings! Charlotte must walk away from Colbourne because she can't be the one to disappoint Ralph AND her parents by running off with Colbourne! What I love about Rose's performance is watching her struggle with all of it! She loves him but she's angry with him for putting her in this position and for not telling her how he felt about her. Colbourne, a man of integrity and high principles, is shocked by his brother's suggestion that he somehow interfere with Charlotte's plans to marry Ralph but at the same time he's afraid she will leave Sanditon the next day, get married, and he'll never see her again, so he's desperate. The drama and passion of it all is why this particular video has had almost 500,000 views as of October 2024!
We haven’t seen much of Colbourne in his office in Season 3. I love that he retreated there to think after seeing Charlotte at the shooting party. He (with a little nudge from Samuel) prepared himself to go and properly confess his love to her. At last!
I watched this a few times. This man right here walks down from that hill to deliver that incredible love speech. In that way. Charlotte. The word you’re looking for is yes, woman. He’s a forward thinker, too? Listens to you??? Doesn’t mind if you have a job in that time period? Looks good and has an estate? Yes. And can you say I love you at least once? He will die if you do not. Look at him.
The most well realized concept in sanditon is to get to experience the evolution of love through Charlotte, and to see how love can find you, even when all hope is lost, you just have to be opened to see it.
1: He did not tell her before because of his experience with his previous marriage. He was simply afraid. 2: After that speech who wouldn't jump his bones. Wait until episode 6😅
Is it just me, or is it Charlotte that kisses Alexander?!? 2:15 Check it out for yourself. The moment she's been pinning for ever since she returned home in Season 2 and saw him again at Georgiana's birthday party in episode 1. Their fingers touching each other in episode 2 at the concert. Their chemistry crashes upon the screen moreso than the waves upon the shore. 💘
With every fiber in her body she kisses him. Notice how Charlotte’s neck muscles tense up as she reaches UP to kiss her man! They couldn’t be closer, not a wisp of the cliff breeze is getting through their bodies at that moment. Wake up Charlotte!
Honestly after seeing Colbourne (BLH) I can't even watch season one anymore. Sidney was just Meh...compared to Colbourne. HE is Charlotte's soul mate and IMO BLH is by far the better actor. Bye bye Sidney. I couldn't have been more thrilled at seasons 2 and 3. The finale! OMG! So satisfying to see everyone finally find happiness! I've seen a lot of period pieces and they are my favorite genre but Sanditon has come be to my top favorite! In every aspect. Perfectly done. Rose Williams was so good as were they all and that little girl Flora who played Leo! So great. Great future ahead for her. But to me it was BLH and his wonderful embodiment of Colbourne that made these last two seasons. That and the amazing chemistry he and Rose had. Thank you cast, directors...everyone. What a joy to experience! TY PBS! xoxo

As Alexander sees Charlotte on the cliffs, it makes me believe looking forward to the future and getting a charge out of if their feelings and the best result if you believe them. Thank you for providing these videos.
He got to the point where the pain of rejection of his feelings was less painful than the feelings of regret he would have had if he never expressed them to her. ❤
Such great acting skills by both! Charlotte was so sad and miserable all of S3. I would have thought, sorry, Mom, and Dad, and goodbye Ralph. "Stay... and make a life with me." YES!
Fortunately we live in 2023 with options about controlling ourselves as we choose ...well most of us. Back then , they couldn't.. just say "YES"....... especially those in bad economical situations. They had to marry for money ....Love ? How many back then could marry for love? Certainly not from the working class....the odds.. those who married for love to those who couldn't afford to do that ...well was beyond measurement. The unfortunate of our era is that everything has taken the "ugly" road ,that some times for some people , there is an uncontrollable freedom of speech and way of acting as they please.Too much "yes's".
No fr if you’re talking about Jane Austen novels/movies/series in general it seems like so many iconic things happen on a cliff bro. Also just in this series alone haha 😅
OMG! How could she remember Ralph after a declaration of that! I don't know what Charlotte was thinking but it took Alexander a lifetime of courage just to confess his deepest feelings to her. Then to have her show that she returns his affection and deep love (she did kiss him) and then say it was too late! What kind of girl could walkaway from the man she loves with that evidence! Later on when she mentions her parents again in reference to keeping her promise to Ralph, I would have thought they would say they only wanted to see her happy. I am pretty sure they would have trusted her to make her own decisions. So glad though Charlotte did come to her senses and drop Ralph and marry her love.
From The Eve of Saint Agnes - "Agnes sweet, and Agnes fair, Hither, hither, now repair; Bonny Agnes, let me see The lad who is to marry me." And then, there he is.
We waited a whole year to hear what was said at the cliff. Finally! Didn’t disappoint! Too bad when she asked “Why didn’t you”, he didn’t get to explain how he thought he would fail her like the way he failed in his 1st marriage. Now they have to get out of this pickle!
@@jstypula1619 Naw..., I think in the scene at the end of Season 2 in the Parkers' drawing room, Alexander still lacked the confidence to spill out his feelings and once again was about to ask Miss Heywood to return as the girls' governess ---- a variation of his usual lame "the house misses you already." Charlotte rightfully stopped him from completing his weak request. After all, Charlotte had been badly disrespected. Alexander has a long way to go to redeem himself before our honorable and truly remarkable young heroine. I'm glad to see Charlotte wiser and not blindly swept up this time.
Actually, Ben Lloyd-Hughes has said in an interview that Alexander was coming to Trafalgar House to propose. You seem pretty sure of your opinions and also pretty harsh on the poor man. "Lame" and "weak" are not words I would use to describe Alexander Colbourne 🔥 If you delve deeper, you may find the compassion to understand that he has been very badly treated and is coming from only love for Charlotte, and wanting to protect her.
@Susan Firth jane austen wrote with her own take on morality right and wrong. Alexander, although not born of her name, I don't think would have been written differently... He and charlette are both of very aware people, I think, more than others on the show, why their journey to each other is complicated. Just my thoughts...there are so many layers here it is truly deserving of deeper explaration
Thank you for uploading this scene, and for the Spanish subtitles! It's such a moving, romantic, and sincere moment for Alexander & Charlotte. When I first watched this, I was speechless for a moment but was squealing internally! ❤❤
I loved the music from Sanditon, this scene in particular, and thought you all would like to know that the soundtrack for Sanditon seasons 2 and 3 is now available on Spotify and posibly other platforms too!
I have rewatched this scene a zillion times and I keep coming back again and again. Sigh. If Xander had said that speech to me I would have tossed that poetry book off the cliff and grabbed him and run. 😁
Commitment to Ralph and her Parents. Honor was very important then . Even when Alexander professes his love ,he remains a proper Gentleman calling her Miss Heywood.
I was so crushed when Xander let that evil man get into his head, knowing what a douchebag he is. That Xander then fired Charlotte so coldly. And then wants to get her back by telling her that the house misses her and that he was only there to ask her back because his niece asked him to. If he had at least started by apologizing for his words and saying that he missed her, he might have saved himself all this heartache.
Merci.
I confess ...I am very drawn to these kind of era and the way they lived and the conduct and speak...If I had to choose when and where I would like to be born... that era I would choose...but not London.I would prefer a place like Sanditon or somehere else in the country with similar grounds . An other matter ...after watching and reviewing this scene again and again ...I am asking my self an other question ...Is it that the role and the script ..that makes the actors...lovable .. for me ..or all of us... to be drawn to them ? I am not UK resident and I do not know a lot of UK actors and actresses .I have never seen or known Ben Lloyd-Hughes before, so I wonder ...if he was playing a role like the one of E.Denam or Ralph or Mr Stringer's....would I be able to notice him and consider him as a goodlooking man and fascinate me ?I so much desliked JACK FOX. What would I think if he had the role of Alexander?
My question is why was she touching his hand during the opera singer but won't dump farmer Ralph for Mr Hotbourne? This is so unrealistic but I guess it adds to the drama! 😂
It goes back to season 2.after finding Leo in the militia camp with Lennox, Lennox tells Alexander that Charlotte is in love with him and that he better not fail her like he did his first wife, Lucy. That makes Alexander feel guilty and shy away from Charlotte, bury his feelings, and not tell her how he truly feels. He is afraid to hurt someone again. He then dismissed her as governess. Claiming that their relationship was inappropriate and that he took advantage of her. Charlotte tries to advocate for herself and says that no one took advantage of her. That she was a willing participant. But Alexander still dismisses her. He thinks he's being noble and must sacrifice his happiness for her sake. Charlotte is heartbroken. Meanwhile, Mrs. Wheatley tells him that "you'll regret this." Knowing that he's in love with her. Also, she caught them kissing earlier. And he says "it's for her own sake." To which Mrs. Wheatley puts her hand in Alexander's arm to try and comfort him. Then when Augusta confronts Alexander about why Charlotte left (she doesn't know what happened between them yet), she begs him to go after her. He goes to the Parker's, and I believe he was about to tell her how he felt, but Charlotte stopped him and told him that she was leaving sanditon. Charlotte said she could never be in any kind of relationship where someone showed her so little respect. Alexander leaves, hesitating at the door. It pains him to not tell her, but he doesn't. We then see Charlotte alone where she cries and says"enough!". After these events she returns home and gets engaged to Ralph because it's what her parents think is best for her. Also she's trying to move on and heal. That's why everyone is so shocked at Alison's wedding when she tells them she's engaged to Ralph. They know it's not right and that Charlotte is not really happy. Meanwhile Alexander goes off to Bath to try and get away from things and forget Charlotte, But he can't. And here we are in season 3 where they are pushed back together again.
@@amidthephantomsrose i guess I always felt that Lennox was insinuating something more than just that Alexander's love wasn't enough for Lucy when he said that all he did was comfort her when her husband could not. Perhaps you are right though, and this is all that Lennox meant. I guess I was really asking if there is any scene in which Alexander explains to Charlotte why he didn't tell her before, meaning does he explain to her how Lennox's comments affected her. I assuming that he doesn't actually explain this.
@@STwGrandma so far, I don't think that there has been a scene where he explains anything to Charlotte about how Lennox's comments affected him. I could be wrong, but I think the writer's are under the assumption that it's just implied and that the audience will understand and read between the lines. But I'm with Charlotte in this one "why didn't you!" I think it would have made things clearer for her and she wouldn't have been as hurt or mad at the situation maybe

Something’s always going down on those cliffs. 😂
😀😀😀😀
😂😂😂
No fr if you’re talking about Jane Austen novels/movies/series in general it seems like so many iconic things happen on a cliff bro. Also just in this series alone haha 😅
I’m so happy Ben fought to have Xander make that long walk 🥵🥵
The scenes we all needed! Thank you! 🙏😊
Aww..I love, love, love it! Today, I order the DVD, finally and can´t wait to watch the whole season 🙂
It’s already out?
@@maddissonstratford9407 Yes. Ordered mine yesterday.
I squealed like a little girl at the end of episode 3. 🤗🤭
You were not alone 🤣❤
I was just going to say you are not alone! ❤
Same!
Me too!
We made a chorus!
I’m in the UK & can’t watch it yet so I’m living for your art ❤
From The Eve of Saint Agnes - "Agnes sweet, and Agnes fair, Hither, hither, now repair; Bonny Agnes, let me see The lad who is to marry me." And then, there he is.
Superb scene and acting 🏆🎭🎬
♥♥♥♥ Oh the heartache - for us all!!
We waited a whole year to hear what was said at the cliff. Finally! Didn’t disappoint! Too bad when she asked “Why didn’t you”, he didn’t get to explain how he thought he would fail her like the way he failed in his 1st marriage. Now they have to get out of this pickle!
He was going to, but she stopped him ...Parkers drawing room ...
If there weren't pickles to get out of there wouldn't be a show.
Thank you for uploading this scene, and for the Spanish subtitles! It's such a moving, romantic, and sincere moment for Alexander & Charlotte. When I first watched this, I was speechless for a moment but was squealing internally! ❤❤
I love these scenes! 😊
Can’t wait for tomorrows episode!
I could stare into Rose's eyes forever.
Perfectly said
Same 😂
I concur
Absolutely!❤❤
Yesss 😊❤
Everything was going so great and again that nail in the shoe - Ralph... 😤
No idea how she turns him down after this speech!
Lol right! Gosh it’s what we all want to hear
Commitment to Ralph and her Parents. Honor was very important then . Even when Alexander professes his love ,he remains a proper Gentleman calling her Miss Heywood.
Ralph? Ralph who?
His brother is so fine!
Both of those Colbourne men are oh so fine!❤❤
I was so crushed when Xander let that evil man get into his head, knowing what a douchebag he is. That Xander then fired Charlotte so coldly. And then wants to get her back by telling her that the house misses her and that he was only there to ask her back because his niece asked him to. If he had at least started by apologizing for his words and saying that he missed her, he might have saved himself all this heartache.
I have an obsession with the backdrop music and i just cant find it on spotify. Does anyone know the songs title and composser?
Jon Wygans :)
According to the composers, the season 2/3 soundtrack will be out soon,
@@Abenteuerland74 Great news !!
Where could I find a Xander?
Merci.
I mean i think that’s fair. 🤷♀️🤣
Is the score/soundtrack out for this particular scene or not? 😍

Every day of my life that is not spent in your company is a day wasted. Stay. Make a life with me.
I'm gutted.😭😭😭
Me too
Oh! My
Aw such a sincere deep loving reveal of his true feelings! Few words but with such power and poignancy...um, Ralph who?!! ❤
My question is why was she touching his hand during the opera singer but won't dump farmer Ralph for Mr Hotbourne? This is so unrealistic but I guess it adds to the drama! 😂
I need the music from this scene please!!!
Is Colbourne walking towards Charlotte a nod to the 2005 P&P Darcy/Elizabeth scene?
Yes, in fact Ben said in an interview that he wanted to pay homage to that Darcy scene ❤️
@@susanfirth9883And he did such a fantastic work of it too😀
They always come forward too late
is this a film...
TV show on PBS ❤️
Does anyone know if we find out why Alexander did not tell her before?
@@amidthephantomsrose I think in Season 2 where Alexander goes to the Parker's to talk with Charolotte - he was going to propose to her.
@@renolittle4950 I agree..
