No other band could have played this. Of course you make mistakes when you are reaching for something. Unique. No other harmonica player could play like that. Quite extraordinary.

Boy you can feel the tension between Bloomfield and Bishop listening to this.

Back then we didn't know how many bad notes Bloomers used to hit (I was 13), but it hardly mattered with all that excitement and passion and sound. Nobody in rock and electric blues was doing what Bloomfield was doing at that time. Of course there were great jazz players that would dismiss this as too uninformed and sloppy but kids like me freaked at the sound of it.

As would some just ok big band type sort of jazz players like me and certainly on a comparable level for me as well, oboe players of classical music, but by the same token we know how hard it is to perform without something not being quite right. I heard Issac Stern toward the end of his career give a brilliant rendition of the Brahms Violin Concerto in which he made several mistakes, but his interpretation was so incredible that it didn't matter, and the non-musicians in the audience didn't notice.

You can play any note you want to if it’s played fast enough.

Bloomfield's guitar produces a real "wall of sound"...in 1966 anything like that

Bloomfield's guitar work is genius and perfect, beautifully executed. And Butterfield is the greatest blues harmonica player in history.

Butterfield May have been one of the best Blues Rock harmonica players, but he certainly wasn’t the greatest Blues harmonica player in history.

Compare this to the Beatles in 1966 -- The Revolver album, a very good album, a little bit of musical experimentation, but kindergarten compared to this piece. Rolling Stones in 1966 Aftermath, some very good stuff (Paint It Black), also growing beyond their R&B roots, but kindergarten also.
