Big Jim confirmed that it was Trixie's Dad, but also asked the question "but does he even know he's Trixie's father?" That puts a MASSIVE implication that Trixie may be from a broken family, or a single mother. If they tackle that in season 8 or 9... wow.
Dulcet Tone Actually she was knitting instead of sewing last episode. And yeah according to Hasbro comics that contradict the show aren't canon. I don't remember if the comic with Trixie's mom was canon though all i remember is that story mainly revolved around Spike, Twilight & Celestia's school for gifted unicorns where Trixie & her mom made a cameo at the entrance.
If you think about it, it was Big Mac who accompanied them on their previous trips, so I'd say AJ was her overprotective self, but Big Mac just ignored all the instructions because he's more level headed. The episode was a lot of fun, but AJ needs work.
She's needed work for a long time. Even if she was being "controlling" which I think she was just messing with RD a bit, she does need a talk after this, no matter what her intentions were.
Big Mac: "No, Granny Smith, we are NOT going helicopter skiing!" Granny Smith: "Good! Because we were just joking about that!" Big Mac: *Just glares angrily at the Golden Mares."
I liked this episode seeing Rainbow Dash in a positive light was something I really wanted her being responsible for a change and caring for others is a big change and this episode shows her growth
Yeah. There's no mom in her family anymore, so she decided that she has to step up in Pear Butter's place. Hence her overprotectiveness in Somepony To Watch Over Me and Bridle Gossip, and this episode. Also, I'm betting that Big Mac applied the list of restrictions in a much more sensible manner. He'd object to Helicopter Skiing or that MMA class, but he'd be fine with the dancing and such. Also, no want to ride a closing rollercoaster, so less conflict there. Here's hoping for a future episode where RD, Big Mac, and AJ all go with the Golden Mares to Las Pegasus, and AJ gets the lesson that the grannies are more capable than she thinks. But only after they get wrapped up in a Daring Do caper. ;D
Apple Jack isn't even in the episode, she just show up in the beginning, the cloud Apple Jack is a reflection of Rainbow missinterpretation of the instructions given to her. For example "Don´t let them get too excited" had a diferent meaning to Rainbow through the episode because she didnt knew what the old ladies were capable of, but for Apple Jack that just mean to watch out for symptoms of fatige and rest properly. It's all part of a lesson about how the elders can have fun just like the youth.
I guess one could argue that RD's lesson was not to be so blindly loyal to her friends that she couldn't question their instructions - but that was never highlighted as the lesson
there is one key difference between roller coasters and flying that gives dash plenty of room to be excited: control. Same with a few fighter pilots I knew, it's the complete lack of control over what's going on that makes it enjoyable for them.
P.S. applejack wasn't in the episode except for the first part, the "ghosts" were just rainbow's imagination getting the better of her, therefore rainbow dash is just as much to blame for the conflict and applejack
They basically *are* the Golden Girls. It has not been long enough since The Golden Girls. I'm pretty sure a significant majority of the audience knew what the writers were doing.
Season 8 episode 3 Questionable characterization of Pinkie Season 8 episode 4 Questionable characterization of Fluttershy Season 8 episode 5 Questionable characterization of Applejack I REALLY hope that this pattern doesn't continue...
Something I kind of wish they could have done here is have Rainbow Dash wind up having fun with the Golden Gals instead of going on the roller coaster. Discovering that the ways elderly ponies/people can have fun isn't as boring or dull as she supposes it is. I could have seen some fear of aging playing out as Rainbow starts to see in these elderly ponies what she will inevitably experience with age, but find comfort in seeing their ability to handle excitement isn't so fragile after all. Plus, why on earth would a place like this shut down one of their most popular rides? It being one of their greatest draws, I can only think that it means they're going to unveil something even better than the former. So a payoff for Rainbow could have been missing out on the chance to be one of the last to ride the Great Blue Yonder, and be the very first (thanks to the Golden Gals' exclusive access membership) on the brand new, never-before-seen ride that's even better than the first. But that's me. And maybe there isn't enough time to get all of that into an episode.
Sadly there's a number of reasons: property expenses, someone bought it out, contract expiration, or the most common one (and the one that Disney World/Land does constantly), gets rid of it for something more popular. Not good, popular. The Rock N Roller Coaster staring Aerosmith is a VERY popular ride, but that's not stopping them from remodeling it into an Avengers themed ride. Same goes for The Aladdin Musical Spectacular at California Adventure. Even though it was a pretty popular ride, they still got rid of it and changed it to some dumb frozen musical. Why? Because Frozen's popular and "trendy".
It might not have been that popular anymore. The huge lines for the ride could have been entirely due to the fact it was closing. Everyone who ever put off giving it a try or going back for a second ride all finally getting round to it while they still have a chance. Also the hotel now belongs to Flim and Flam (still not quite sure how they pulled that off) and they might just have different priorities to Gladmane.
I believe they just pretended it was closing to draw in these hungry visitors again. Also, I think Rainbow would have had plenty of fun before, if she were able to let loose on Applejack's instructions.
I suspect if Dash hadn't been given that list, and had only been told to keep an eye on them, then all they would have needed was to communicate with each other. I think Dash could have enjoyed hanging out with the 'Golden Ponies'. And being they were like premier members of an exclusive club, hanging out with them would have meant no standing in lines.
The Steel Phantom was a beloved Kennywood roller coaster, but it was replaced with the Phantom's Revenge due to the park's wanting to update the coaster and remove the loops that got a lot of complaints. People often ended up looking into their laps because the loops on the Steel Phantom were fast and hard loops. Phantom's Revenge has a few corkscrews, but focuses more on being very fast without loops with big sweeping turns. On the other hand, the Thunderbolt has stayed the same ever since it got remodeled from being The Pippin, and has been an iconic part of Kennywood for ages.
That was so upsetting and cringy. So cringy. Like I’m ready to jump ship if S8 continues to be so bad. Would have liked to see AJ “teaching Rainbow’s lesson”. Tbh I’m probably gonna watch the leaks now and see if it ever gets better. Total trainwreck so far. The R&M really drove it home
I believe that AppleJack is a control freak. It shows in other episodes that if she thinks she right then she is right there is no wrong. She makes decisions for others believing she is the only one right, and everybody else is wrong. She makes it seem that everybody around her are so incompetent and she is the only one who can do things the right way. I know that's not what she's trying to do, she perhaps just like doing things herself and feels more comfortable that way but it frustrates me that she does these things and is never called out on it.
Good episode plot for her would be having to deal with permanent change. Like Big Mac and Sugar Belle getting married and either she moves in or he leaves and Applejack needs to find other people to help. Dealing with facts that are out to her control and maybe getting in some episodes non farming related interest would make her character grow.
Well to play devil's advocate a bit, I can kinda see where Applejack is coming from, considering that she's the face of Sweet Apple Acres, and she's responsible for all that happens on the farm. Combine that with knowing about her dead parents, and that grandmother simply can't do everything (partially because of age) and kinda being the surrogate mother to Apple Bloom at times, I can see her being 'hands-on'. Not to mention that cutie mark is pretty much like a pager that she can't overlook being an Element of Harmony. Applejack needs to trust her friends and family more though...
She's stuck way too far into her job/life. She needs too learn from Big Mac who seems too do all she does but without much said and even less fuss. Heck I bet there are photos of him on that coaster!
I think that Apple Jack was honest in her thoughts about the oldies seeing that she said usually Big Mac goes with them and the reactions of the older ones once they hear her explain she followed Apple Jacks instructions. We know Apple Jack is over caring and maybe even more so with Granny after the whole cure all drink. I think that Big Mac usually just lets them do their own thing and helps if they need it unlike what Apple Jack thinks he does as they probably let her think they do quiet stuff. Also no comment about the continuity that Flim and Flam run that casino?
Knowing them, they could have already lost it for making some fraud with thye accommodations, getting persecuted by Las Pegasus's Mafia or having other business in other major cities like Manehattan. Or all of that.
Thought this was a good Episode. It's my favorite episode of the season next to the premiere. I liked that Rainbow was actually pretty responsible for the grandmares. She followed Applejack's instruction pretty well. Unfortunately for her that created the problems. It was also cool to see Trixie's father.
I kinda liked how even though the Golden Gals were upset with Dash ruining the show, they didn't stay mad at her for the rest of the episode, they immediately figured there was something wrong with her, asking her about it like caring Grandparents and completely understanding the situation when Dash mentioned AJ.
I think when it comes to Rainbow Dash, AJ dosen't see the growth that she',s gone through. Most of the Mane 6 treat Dash as irresponsible simply because she seems to have more FreeTime or did. Hard to say how. I also know many called lot calling kettle black from the episode Flutter Brutter, when Dash makes the comment to Zephyr about it being the middle of the day when he's going to take a nap. I know she took naps during the day too, but the difference is that she also had a JOB, Zephyr didn't. Back to this episode. AJ not only treated Dash as incapable by giving her that list, but she treated her relatives as incapable too. These are four mates who've had some long lives and experiences, she should trust in their judgement and not great them as infants.
I don't fault Rainbow Dash in what she did, because she has learned from becoming a Wonderbolt that responsibility comes above all else. AJ was just exploiting that to make Dash just as much of a insufferable control freak. Also if anyone didn't notice, I saw the Pony Heisenberg in the lineup.
As for Rainbow Dash getting excited for a roller coaster despite the fact that she can fly, there's actually a good explanation. When she flies, she's in control. She knows what's coming and she can get ready for her maneuvers before she actually makes them. On a roller coaster, you are a passive observer, you don't have any control over the ride and you don't necessarily know what will come next. That makes it more thrilling than flying, in a certain way.
I really don't think she WAS messing with them. Cause the grannies all kind of rolled their eyes about AJ instead of laughing implying AJ is always kind of a stick in the mud that way. But then, AJ is a control freak, this has been referenced time and again. I just wish they would address it and have her work towards letting things go like they did with Fluttershy's shyness.
Nah, I want to see Big Mac and Rainbow Jack bring Applejack along on the next trip, and have them all tell AJ that she was being overprotective from the start. Then they get caught up in a Daring Do caper, and the old ladies save the day repeatedly with smarts and cunning, while Big Mac, AJ, Rainbow Dash, and Daring Do have to help the Golden Mares physically at points, showing that everyone has their own strengths. AJ learns that the grannies are more capable than she thought, but the grannies are reminded that they aren't physically young anymore, but have already learned ways of coping with that, and accept help when they can't run or fly as fast as they need to run and fly. Also, tossed cats as weapons, and horseshoes as a way to throw an artifact to the right spot.
Yes. Yes you are being too hard on it. I think all of the trips with the grannies were all exciting before this current trip. AJ mentioned that RD would find time as she got the list and that she’d learn a thing from them since RD did complain about going with them. I also think AJ was thinking RD would see their desire to do a lot of fun stuff that RD would see their coolness. That’s what the wink could’ve meant. After all haven’t the grannies been going on this trip every year for a long time? It seems kinda ridiculous to think AJ would now make that sort of list and worry too much. Believe me I thought the same of AJ but upon closer examination I saw this conclusion I arrived to. Sure her communication could’ve been better but MLP has had bad communication before.
Two for two with good episodes. So thankfully, it seems to have just been a slow start for the season. Back on track with an episode, I was dreading for a bit. I really want Dash episodes to be good and this didn't disappoint. She really has come a long way.
This was a very good episode. Rainbow remained in character and didn't try to get out of looking after Granny smith, the reason she lost sight of them wasn't her fault, the conflict came from underestimating Granny and her friends and what they could do. Which is a fair point of view and you understand why Applejack was thinking that way. There were so many ways this could've gone wrong, but they avoided all of those pitfalls and the episode was very funny and entertaining. We can sympathize with Rainbow because she's trying to be responsible, and thus has no time to do what she wants.
It also could've been avoided if Big Mac went to Rainbow Dash and told her not to worry about the Elder Mares so much. I mean if he's been their chaperone to Las Pegasus in the past he would know they're just fine.
I think Applejack was just trolling Rainbow Dash. The Golden Girls have been doing these trips for a long time, so I am sure Applejack has heard from either Granny or Big Mac about what they did and do every time. That is why the list was so detailed. They likely do the same things every time.
Granny Smith - Sofia Apple Rose - Rose (duh) Applesauce - Blanche Golden Delicious - Dorothy Also, I'm more interested in the background pony who's obviously Walter White, rather than the Rick/Morty ponies. XD
Trust me. I know about the Golden Girls. It was a funny show. If only I knew which ponies acted like Rose, Sofia, and Dorothy. When I saw that old mare flirting with the bellhop it reminded me a lot of Blanche.
Creshosk Goldie Delicious: Hey, are you OK? Apple Rose: I'll be fine. Aunt Apple Sauce: Are you upset about your husband? Goldie Delicious: No Apple Sauce, she's up because they keep changing the taste of apples.
Apple Rose was definitely Rose with all the stories that went nowhere and no one cared about. Apple Sauce is Blanche without a doubt. I can see Goldie Delicious being Sophia since Sophia always had the really old stories and family history and stuff, just like Goldie does. Lastly, I'd put Granny Smith as Dorothy since she's the 'main' one and the most average or normal of the group. I had a lot of fun with this episode. GG was a great show and only gets better as you get older. I remember watching it with the folks as a kid and most jokes went over my head. Now, it's fucking hilarious.
Clayton Johnson I liked tawogs take on the golden girls much more, partly because everytime the elders were on screen laughing tracks came out of nowhere and because the ending was hilarious
P-p-ponies, Morty! Ever just spend a day in a universe where everyone is a horse, Morty? They got some of the sickest roller coaster there, Morty! I could see this being an actual thing that happens with where Rick and Morty has gone in the past.
First Teen Titans Go, then Gumball, now Mlp. Anyone else seeing a pattern here or is it just me? What's with all these episodes mentioning the Golden Girls?
I'm not sure it's that the writers are running low on ideas, but rather it was finally a reason to put Granny Smith in an episode that is primarily about her (and the other grannies). Besides, the series (well G4 at least) ends in 2019, with rumors that Season 9 is gonna be like season 3 with just thirteen episodes. So unless they are gonna thinking of a series-finale movie like a lot of us was thinking that Equestria Girls gonna be, I'm sure that there's still plenty of stuff that they can use, and still keep it kinda TV-Y. Personally, I will be looking for one where there are finally some clues as to how Spike ended up in Equestria in the first place, and how did Celestia get his egg. Not to mention that (and it's probably just a April fools joke the staff did) that there are some rumors about being a Kirin being shown in an episode, and considering that they still have the Spike/Rarity thing around even though it's a bit subdued because of characters like Ember, King Thorax, and Starlight, it would be pretty cool to see what a Kirin in FIM would look like... EDIT: I'm pretty sure all of you know what a Kirin in....specifically why a Kirin is rare....and it's kinda the same as to how a hippogriff is kinda rare as well (well until the movie happened). Just a few thoughts....
This episode kinda reminded me of an episode of King of the Hill where Hank takes his mom and her friends to Port Aransas, but they go during spring break so there's a lot of partying going on.
Applejack's motivations were what you said, about her being over protective of her relatives. Rainbow Dash knows her well enough that she should have thought more on if that was the case. Honestly though, it was an alright episode and one you really shouldn't think too much on. I did like the setup of Rainbow having to watch the elderly and how they pretty much instantly forgave in a believable manner when she mentioned Applejack. They didn't really question it and understood what happened like they should.
A rollercoaster isn't a weak plot point. If anything, this is the first time MLP has brought in a freaking amusement park that somehow was overlooked by Applejack and Fluttershy when they came in. Not to mention the most sophisticated video games like DDR that even ponies can play with ease. If anything, it shows that little by little, the magic of Equestria is being overshadowed by human-based technology that somehow are being replicated by pony hooves. Next thing you know, they'll bring in smartphones and computers they can use (since apparently typewriters are a breeze to use).
I bet AJ got scolded off-camera after the episode ended. After all, during the "reveal" when Dash explained she was following AJ's instructions, the grannies were all "Ohh...Applejack. Of course"
This was a very strong episode overall, though I agree it would have been nice to see Applejack’s overprotectiveness be called out. I do like Applejack, I really do; but as a character she has really started to get grating, she has had by far the least amount of character development and has been often relegated to being the uncorruptible saint who is always right. I have noticed many of the Applejack focused episodes almost never focus exclusively on her own development, it’s usually herself and her family or herself and a friend. Comparing that to the other man 6 who have had episodes that have focused purely on their development, this kinda sad and it makes the jokes of Applejack being a “background pony” oddly true.
This version of Rick and Morty are one of the few versions that have a sane and functional life as just people. Rick has some issues with an obsession with inventing, but he cares enough for Morty to keep focus on being a good uncle and NOT endangering Morty. This ride on the Wild Blue Yonder is Rick Pony's way of getting Morty Pony a little more courage in a safe but exciting way. What? I love bringing joy, happiness, and peace to a dark, violent and questionable series!
Apple jack pretty much represented the stereotypes Americans put on the elderly, juxtaposing the only real series that deals with it in the US, the Golden Girls (compared to british tv which has had series after series discussing age discrimination), and RD was a more unbiased third party who believed the stereotypes (AJ) because she had no prior experiences in dealing with elder ponies. It's actually very sophisticated when you break it down, and I'm rather impressed they did a story on the subject. As for AJ, considering her attitude with Flim FLam's Miracle curative tonic, being overprotective with granny has come up before.
I honestly didn't realize that they were the Golden Girls until you mentioned it. After you did, it was plain as day. I don't really watch it... more like my mom has it on occasionally when I'm on my laptop.
I do find it really annoying how Applejack insists that she knows what's best for her family yet never receives consequences when it turns out she's wrong. Just because you're the Element of Honesty... doesn't always mean you're right. I really do hope that there's an episode sometime in the future--either later this season or sometime in season 9--that deals with AJ's overprotective nature coming back to bite her in the flank and her having to deal with the consequences. She is sorely in need of a lesson on not being so overbearing all the time. Also, not only were there Rick and Morty ponies, but there was also a Walter White pony in the same shot, and in another scene you can see a Gordon Ramsay pony telling off a donkey. Just... yes.
I imagine that Granny Smith will berate Applejack for giving Rainbow the impression that things will go to Tartarus if she lets them out of her sights. Someone write a fanfiction about that!
Also, (seen at 1:30 ) the XKCD reference among the Wonderbolts photos from the coaster itself (The one where it looks like they're playing chess on the roller coaster).
Clayton Johnson The better question is who _doesn't_ ship them? Unless you're one of those… _AppleDash_ or _FlutterDash_ shippers (*shudders*), SoarinDash is the only way to go (and is the canon ship IMO). However, I can and do enjoy well-written MacDash fics.
Glad I'm not the only one who got the golden Girls reference and I'm a millennial and I knew that also if Apple Rose did the moonwalk was inspired by Luna or did it come from the MLP equivalent of Michael Jackson and Applejack should have gotten some retribution that annoyed me to eh but I'm probably "taking this too seriously" XD PS I think Josh scorcher is rubbing off on me
It's not just Goldie Delicious who's acting like Pinkie Pie. Rainbow Dash is starting to see mental projections of her friends, and even appeared inside a claw machine. But between this episode and "Somepony to Watch Over Me", I think Applejack doesn't understand her family as well as she should, and *REALLY* needs to learn that she doesn't have to constantly supervise them.
I think father. He wasn’t that old. The grandfather aged ponies look usually really aged like Grand Pear. Granny was just flirthing with a lot younger guy.
Applejack is my favorite pony, and it annoys me that the writers continue to screw up her character and make her the focus of all the blame, we don't know why she is overprotective it was first shown in season one, and again in season four now here, when are we going to get an episode that explains why shes like that, I feel that this is just another episode for people to hate Applejack more.
I agreed with you is why apple jack was like that. Until when rainbow dash told them about the list and they all went omg. And think you for mentioned in the Golden Girls I new I heard their personalities form some where and couldn't think of it until you said it. And in know of that show form Facebook.
This episode kinda is relatable when I wanna do some cool stuff than taking care of elderly. There are many times when I think the elderly aren't capable doing things on their own. But at the same time I understand what RD was going through
1:18 ; me after watching the ep. It was hilarious but I wish they had at least hinted at getting a speaking to. It's like the writers don't know how to flush out AJ's character. Oh wait.... (cough 2017 movie)
Hm, Rick and Morty ponies. Why haven't I layed a finger on this show yet? Oh, right, my family will question my mindset. Still glad to be part of the community though.
I think having Rainbow ask Applejack to sub for her makes sense. Everyone has said in the past that, Applejack is more loyal than Rainbow so, it makes sense that Rainbow would go to Applejack to have her teach loyalty. Thought this was a good episode held back by Applejacks demands.
DRWolf001, I've seen so many people pointing out the Rick and Morty cameo, but has noone noticed Walter White from "Breaking Bad" making an appearance in the same scene? He even has a crystal for a cutie mark. Appropriate lol.
Applejack is a loving caring pony and I think she only wrote this list to test Rainbow Dash's loyalty and to see if Rainbow Dash would be there for those ponies and also learned not to estimate the elderly I mean it ruined the Granny's Fun but it was only because she wanted to teach Rainbow Dash a valuable lesson I'm sure she let the grannies have fun other times when Big Mac was taken care of them but she had to do this or Rainbow Dash would have hurried along going on the roller coaster or maybe not . maybe she would have learned it on her own and maybe they would of had more fun if it wasn't for the list , but this was still really fun episode and know all characters are not perfect. Applejack shouldn't be hated because of this I think she was just trolling Rainbow Dash and trying to teach her something even if she was being over overprotective but that just shows that she cares and that I'm sure she'll learn soon in her life that she doesn't have to be like that so please don't hate her she is a good and silly Pony love Megan PS I think Rainbow Dash would have taken care of the ponies even if her goal wasn't to go on a roller coaster I mean she's not called the element of loyalty for nothing.
I think AJ was caught between knowing the grannies are awesome and letting her over worrying get the best of her. Also once again Big Mac is such a great grand-son/grand-nephew/brother.
Oh Dr. Wolf, if you thought the Rick and Morty reference was something, you should have seen the Breaking Bad one lol. It was in the same screen shot fyi.
I can totally see where you're coming from Doc. Overall, I didn't think the episode itself was interesting and I can get behind the lesson. But of course, the one thing I just can't get over is the fact that the only reason rainbow was acting the way she did was because of Applejack. So really, who really needed to learn the lesson here? That's a rhetorical question by the way. And it would have definitely made the whole episode worthwhile if at the very end Granny and the other "Golden girls" came up to Applejack and said they needed to have a little "chat."😁
Don't think I've forgotten how Applejack and Rainbow Dash tried to commit genocide on the entire species of vampire fruit bats in the episode Bats so i feel little sympathy for their plights yet, After all the ways they have scammed them, I would have thought the Apple family would have stopped supporting Flim and Flam by this episode.
Applejack probably was not going to be so literal with the description she gave to Rainbow even though less fun. But I agree it being odd that Rainbow was exited about a rollercoaster so much.
Big Jim confirmed that it was Trixie's Dad, but also asked the question "but does he even know he's Trixie's father?" That puts a MASSIVE implication that Trixie may be from a broken family, or a single mother. If they tackle that in season 8 or 9... wow.
Dulcet Tone It was also confirmed in a official MLP guide book.
I'm aware of it too. But that extra tidbit is saucy.
Dulcet Tone Did you know that Trixie's mother appeared in the comics & that her canon name is apparently "Spectacle" or "Showcase"???
"comics" and "canon" have a very open relationship. In fact in the last episode they decanonized the Fluttershy Micro because she's bad at sewing.
Yeah, Big Mac was never the overprotective type like AJ.
Perhaps something along the lines of "I'm gunna go see a show, doncha over do it or AJ'll have my hide." and leave it at that?
He's very level headed and smart.
Big Mac: "No, Granny Smith, we are NOT going helicopter skiing!"
Granny Smith: "Good! Because we were just joking about that!"
Big Mac: *Just glares angrily at the Golden Mares."
I liked this episode seeing Rainbow Dash in a positive light was something I really wanted her being responsible for a change and caring for others is a big change and this episode shows her growth
I get the feeling that AJ acts super protective like that because it relates to her parents deaths or it somehow is connected to it.
I guess one could argue that RD's lesson was not to be so blindly loyal to her friends that she couldn't question their instructions - but that was never highlighted as the lesson
Or maybe it was to never listen to applejack (unless it's an honesty issue).
@@frankpoole8645 Or about apple trees.
there is one key difference between roller coasters and flying that gives dash plenty of room to be excited: control.
Applejack: Dear Princess Celestia, I didn't Learn anything!
'no I don't think you deserve that wink'
They basically *are* the Golden Girls. It has not been long enough since The Golden Girls. I'm pretty sure a significant majority of the audience knew what the writers were doing.
Season 8 episode 3
Questionable characterization of Pinkie
Season 8 episode 4
Questionable characterization of Fluttershy
Season 8 episode 5
Questionable characterization of Applejack
I REALLY hope that this pattern doesn't continue...
Don't we all?
On the other hand, the Thunderbolt has stayed the same ever since it got remodeled from being The Pippin, and has been an iconic part of Kennywood for ages.
absolutely with ya on the whole "they shoulda talked with applejack at the end" thing...she DEFINITELY did not deserve the winking sun ending.
4:57 Me: wait, isn’t that....... HAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA! Pony Rick and Morty! I love this sow!
schezwan sauce
That was so upsetting and cringy. So cringy. Like I’m ready to jump ship if S8 continues to be so bad. Would have liked to see AJ “teaching Rainbow’s lesson”. Tbh I’m probably gonna watch the leaks now and see if it ever gets better. Total trainwreck so far. The R&M really drove it home
there's a breaking bad pony in the same scene.
there is also a gordon ramsay pony in this episode
Look up Pony Rick, its been a thing for a couple months now
I believe that AppleJack is a control freak.
Sara Samaletdin Yes! They could also have Sugar Belle taking up most of control of the house leaving AppleJack feeling like she's losing her's.
I think there is an episode where she appears so it's possible.
When RD came clean, all the grannies were like, oh Celestia she again?
4:51 there's also a Breaking Bad reference with a ponified Walter White in the same shot.
Your god damn right. XD
Thought this was a good Episode. It's my favorite episode of the season next to the premiere. I liked that Rainbow was actually pretty responsible for the grandmares. She followed Applejack's instruction pretty well. Unfortunately for her that created the problems. It was also cool to see Trixie's father.
It never really feels like that AppleJack ever suffers from any real concerquences for her mistakes
Well if a ride is THAT popular why close it down forever? and they need to have a a long and serious talk with AJ
I'm waiting to see fanfic of Granny Smith giving AJ a chewing out about messing with RD and them.
Sure her communication could’ve been better but MLP has had bad communication before.
yes aj is a control freak and overprotective.
but considering what happened to her parents tho...
Two for two with good episodes. So thankfully, it seems to have just been a slow start for the season. Back on track with an episode, I was dreading for a bit. I really want Dash episodes to be good and this didn't disappoint. She really has come a long way.
blaa6
Please elaborate. How was this in any way a good episode?
genius11433
1. Personal opinion.
2. It wasn't the first three episodes of this season.
RedfurredPikachu
Summarized perfectly. Thank you. I am so proud of Dashie.
t.co/afsEavKcze
Am I the only one that saw that male alicorn that was guiding the hot air balloon when it landed in Las Pegasus??
It also could've been avoided if Big Mac went to Rainbow Dash and told her not to worry about the Elder Mares so much. I mean if he's been their chaperone to Las Pegasus in the past he would know they're just fine.
I think Applejack was just trolling Rainbow Dash. The Golden Girls have been doing these trips for a long time, so I am sure Applejack has heard from either Granny or Big Mac about what they did and do every time. That is why the list was so detailed. They likely do the same things every time.
No I didn’t think they be a reference to the golden girls cause I obviously never seen that so I never knew
Granny Smith - Sofia
Apple Rose - Rose (duh)
Applesauce - Blanche
Golden Delicious - Dorothy
Also, I'm more interested in the background pony who's obviously Walter White, rather than the Rick/Morty ponies. XD
Trust me. I know about the Golden Girls. It was a funny show.
If only I knew which ponies acted like Rose, Sofia, and Dorothy.
When I saw that old mare flirting with the bellhop it reminded me a lot of Blanche.
Creshosk
What was the name of flirty granny?
Creshosk
Goldie Delicious: Hey, are you OK?
If Trixie didn't know her dad...hmm, I wonder if that would explain some things.
First Teen Titans Go, then Gumball, now Mlp.
Anyone else seeing a pattern here or is it just me?
What's with all these episodes mentioning the Golden Girls?
Javarus Leary
Golden Girls was a very popular sitcom in the 80s.
The writers running low on ideas.
DiscountFurby
How? They're just referencing a classic show
I'm not sure it's that the writers are running low on ideas, but rather it was finally a reason to put Granny Smith in an episode that is primarily about her (and the other grannies).
Each one of them wants to thank you for being a friend.
This episode kinda reminded me of an episode of King of the Hill where Hank takes his mom and her friends to Port Aransas, but they go during spring break so there's a lot of partying going on.
In that episode, there's Pony Rick and Morty.
Rick Voice:...PONY RIIIIICK!?!
So did the animators put them in or is that the actual Rick and Morty? XD
Alternate reality Rick and Morty? There is an alternate reality where Morty is a giant hammer, so I think anything is possible.
Ugh. Ew.
Now we just need these two to show in the background on the citadel somewhere.
Morty: Uhh where are we Rick?
Rick: Fuck if I know Morty.. Another realm full of too much damn Color" XD
Applejack is starting to show signs of being a control freak. Here's hoping they address this soon.
Fanfic writers! TO YOUR KEYBOARDS!
Applejack was likely being overprotective since she never really learned her lesson about overprotectiveness with Apple Bloom.
Of course"
I love the Golden Girls and that made me incredibly happy with this episode!!!
Applejack: dear princess Celestia, today i didn't learning anything
This was a very strong episode overall, though I agree it would have been nice to see Applejack’s overprotectiveness be called out. I do like Applejack, I really do; but as a character she has really started to get grating, she has had by far the least amount of character development and has been often relegated to being the uncorruptible saint who is always right. I have noticed many of the Applejack focused episodes almost never focus exclusively on her own development, it’s usually herself and her family or herself and a friend. Comparing that to the other man 6 who have had episodes that have focused purely on their development, this kinda sad and it makes the jokes of Applejack being a “background pony” oddly true.
i think wubba lubba dub dub
This version of Rick and Morty are one of the few versions that have a sane and functional life as just people. Rick has some issues with an obsession with inventing, but he cares enough for Morty to keep focus on being a good uncle and NOT endangering Morty.
This ride on the Wild Blue Yonder is Rick Pony's way of getting Morty Pony a little more courage in a safe but exciting way.
What? I love bringing joy, happiness, and peace to a dark, violent and questionable series!
Double Lubba Dub Dub
It was a fun episode, but I could have done without the flirting scene. It reminded me too much of my own workplace experiences.
Walter White Pony's "Grannies Gone Wild" cameo:cheezburger.com/9151211264
Yes, so agree with the wink at the end! This was all Applejack's fault!
I've watched the golden girls!
Alex Paniagua
Me too. Who was your favorite? Mine was Sarcastic Dorothy
Clayton Johnson betty white
Good for you....which one is Goldie Delicious supposed to be?
I honestly didn't realize that they were the Golden Girls until you mentioned it. After you did, it was plain as day. I don't really watch it... more like my mom has it on occasionally when I'm on my laptop.
"fanfic writers go!"
wait, when did silver quill get here?
Just... yes.
I sit with my grandma every day and watch the Golden girls, I was surprised when I saw this episode
I imagine that Granny Smith will berate Applejack for giving Rainbow the impression that things will go to Tartarus if she lets them out of her sights. Someone write a fanfiction about that!
You are not the only one Doc. I also feel AJ did not earn that wink. Not one bit!
i cant believe i didn't notice the golden girls i really didn't notice that till you pointed it out.
Also, (seen at 1:30 ) the XKCD reference among the Wonderbolts photos from the coaster itself (The one where it looks like they're playing chess on the roller coaster).
Wait you brought up Rick pony but at 6:27 in the ep there is a male alicorn in a safety vest and hard hat directing the hot air balloons
Soarindash moment at 1:25 and 1:36 XD
My OTP
And awesome review doc
Princess Cordelia Music
You ship them too?
Clayton Johnson
The better question is who _doesn't_ ship them? Unless you're one of those… _AppleDash_ or _FlutterDash_ shippers (*shudders*), SoarinDash is the only way to go (and is the canon ship IMO).
However, I can and do enjoy well-written MacDash fics.
genius11433
I'm not a fan of the gay ships. They're so forced
Clayton Johnson yep
genius11433 no I don’t ship appledash or flutterdash
I am in agreement with you, I found the episode to be fun.
But between this episode and "Somepony to Watch Over Me", I think Applejack doesn't understand her family as well as she should, and *REALLY* needs to learn that she doesn't have to constantly supervise them.
applejack did seem weirdly vindictive though
Did anyone notice the alicorn who was guiding the hot-air balloon at the time 6 : 23?
Ok, how did that title get approved? Also, that old blue unicorn magician is definitely Trixie's grandfather.
thebeav PercabethFTW Father, actually.
I think father. He wasn’t that old. The grandfather aged ponies look usually really aged like Grand Pear. Granny was just flirthing with a lot younger guy.
Father.
www.equestriadaily.com/2018/04/jack-pot-is-actually-trixies-dad.html?m=1
Oh, ok.
But at the same time I understand what RD was going through
'The Golden Girls' was sitcom that aired when the original 'My Little Pony' was on TV.
Dr. Wolf: Fanfic writers...go!
Me: ‘Get’s out laptop and starts typing.’
1:18 ; me after watching the ep. It was hilarious but I wish they had at least hinted at getting a speaking to. It's like the writers don't know how to flush out AJ's character. Oh wait.... (cough 2017 movie)
Would see why Trixie is like her father Jackpot. Wondering if Jackpot married Trixie's mother
Hm, Rick and Morty ponies. Why haven't I layed a finger on this show yet? Oh, right, my family will question my mindset. Still glad to be part of the community though.
Call me crazy, but that one stage magician pony looks a lot like Trixie! Could he be her father? It would explain a lot about her past life.
I TURNED MYSELF INTO A PONY MORTY! IM PONY RIIIIICK!
I think AJ was just trolling RD.
please tell me of the stallion from when the ballon was landing was actually an alicorn
the title to me suggested girls gone wild but then i remembered this is a kids show
DRWolf001, I've seen so many people pointing out the Rick and Morty cameo, but has noone noticed Walter White from "Breaking Bad" making an appearance in the same scene? He even has a crystal for a cutie mark. Appropriate lol.
Fanfic Writers : *GOING*
When you want to let the background of an episode speak for itself,
BOOM, Rick and Morty horses! XD
Don't forget the Walter White pony with the *literally crystal meth cutie mark*
Surprised you missed the breaking bad pony reference in there too doc.
Thank you for being a friend.
Oh Dr. Wolf, if you thought the Rick and Morty reference was something, you should have seen the Breaking Bad one lol. It was in the same screen shot fyi.
"You're not the only one who sees this."
No, really, I saw it too. I love that show.
Oh my God. The look on that poor bellhop’s face as he so veeeeeeery carefully took that tip from Applesauce. hehehehe. Luv it.
You have not Spoke about that FKIN Male Alicorn !!!!
She's a thrillseeker remember, when she flies she's in control of where she goes. On a rollercoaster she doesn't have that so it's exciting to her.
fanfic writers GO!! HAHAHA!!
