To turn off TV You need a smart plug or if your TV has eco power mode it will turn off after set timer if no signal is detected. I should've mentioned that.
Any understanding as to why Alexa has gone out of their way to prevent this option of turning off the Firestick? A smart plug is not an acceptable solution for this.
@UCUfgq9Gn8S041qQFl0C-CEQ I respectfully disagree! Never use a smart plug with a modern TV! They are designed to be in standby mode connected to power. If you constantly cut and restore electrical power to them you are likely to damage and/or shorten the life of the TV set.
I have an echo dot, but I also have a new Sony X950H smart TV. It doesn't need the Amazon Firestick. However, I don't find the skills for Alexa to control it.
will those work for a handicapped person (no hands) to change channels and volume hands free? she has an alexa echo as well but a non-smart tv. needs to be able to change channels and voice. thanks

I only have Fire Stick TV 4K, can I voice control the TV? What else can I control? Thanks! BTW, What other languages did the Fire Stick TV 4K recognize? How to configure it for dual language?
I have a very old Samsung tv that does have CEC controls and I have both the TV's CEC control turned on and the fire stick's CEC control also turned on. I linked my echo dot to the fire stick as well but I'm unable to use echo dot to control turning on and off the tv. Do you know what I may be missing in the setup? What I'm trying to accomplish is to have my Ring doorbell camera display on my Samsung TV when I tell echo dot to "show my front door camera on the TV".
You can only use Alexa commands (say an Echo Dot) to turn a TV On/off with a TV equipped with Fire TV. This does not work with Alexa/Dot to the Fire TV stick. You can use Alexa/Dot to do things like Pause FF REW commands to the Fire TV stick.

If your tv support the alexa app then it's easy to set up but if it doesn't then you will have to use a fire tv stick or a device like Hulu to control your tv
I paired my echo dot with a vizio tv and it controls input, volume and power, but it won't play a show from smartcast. It asks if I ant to play it on firestick from another tv in another room.
Try restarting your alexa and make sure Bluetooth is on, on the tv plus go on your alexa app and reconnect you tv to the app make sure your Bluetooth on your phone is on aswell
I've got Alexa app built in the tv, it's switching HDMI sources, increase volume, but it won't change channel for eg "Alexa, go-to 101" my CEC is all on, strange, any suggestions 👍 Samsung QN90A thanks
So, I had this feature set up in my townhouse, but when I moved into the apartment 5 weeks ago.. both of my Echos aren't working. When u ask them to turn on or off the TV, they both reply.. "TV isn't resounding. Please check its network and power supply." The same Echo is connected to the same TV. I've rebooted the Echo and the Echo connector to the TV.. still nothing.
I did all that but it still won’t work, my HDMI control CEC on my LG tv is on, the fire stick and my echo dot 3rd gen are linked on the Alexa app. HDMI control option is turned on under firestick settings and all devices restarted but it won’t turn off or on the TV, just the normal content search and play/pause content. The language on bother devices is British English. Is this the reason or what?! Thanx For the video it was really informative and easy to apply the steps in real.

I've got a real head scratcher for you.... There are a lot of live tv services that you can get on a Fire TV stick, known as iptv services. If you have a bluetooth keyboard or hand held bluetooth keyboard such as a Rii, you can type numbers in and change channels that way. But, I'm trying to figure out how to get Alexa to change the channels for a bluetooth controlled device like the Fire TV stick. I have the Harmony Ultimate remote and hub and that can turn on my tv and my Fire TV stick but, it can't change channels in the iptv apps. If you add an Fire TV "Activity" in Harmony, you can only select commands found on a Fire TV stick remote (no numeric keys). I DID discover that I can pull up an on-screen keyboard in my iptv service (Gears TV) and then set up a set of sequences for the directional pad and select button to enter the numbers. But, it's a very tedious process to program in the My Harmony desktop app. Plus, you have to enter a 1 second delay between each step or the sequence goes too fast and gets it wrong. But, that's the only way I can get Alexa to run a channel changing sequence. Most numeric channel changing abilities for Alexa, involve infrared remotes. But, Fire TV remotes are bluetooth. I've contacted both Logitech Harmony and Amazon, saying that they NEED to add numeric keys to the Fire TV Remote or in the My Harmony activity set-up system. I just recently bought a used Harmony keyboard and the numeric keys do change the channels on my iptv service in the Fire TV stick but, much to my dismay, the keyboard doesn't get added as a "Device" in the My Harmony desktop app... so Alexa can't control that. I'm considering one last option. There is a Harmony Companion remote that has number keys on it and, I'm thinking that might show up as a new device in the My Harmony desktop app. We'll see. It's an odd quest to be on and sometimes I get tired and stop searching. But, maybe there are others out there trying to do the same thing and, posting this will help.
