Chicago by far has the best skyline. Show me a city that has beaches in front of downtown, with World class museums, and parks. The Chicago architecture is World class. Oh by the way, the skyscraper was born in Chicago.
Dr RBO um, beaches also beautify up a skyline. Cities with no large body of water and beaches just don't look as splendid as cities that do have them, and the only reason Hong Kong got #1 was because the skyline rating was based on number of skyscrapers, not actual beauty, and Hong Kong has the most skyscrapers. I don't mean to say that Hong Kong isn't nice, it's beautiful, but that's not the reason it got #1.
It is funny how people judge me for my own opinion. As stated before, this list is made according to my PERSONAL preferences, so there is no need to be offended ;-). Depends what time of building we consider. For example Hong Kong is the city with most buildings above 100 meters. When we consider all buildings with 30 meters or more São Paulo comes on top
Shanghai and Chicago are very beautiful. In my personal opinion I would have Shanghai second, Chicago third, and New York fourth. I personally think that New York's skyline does not look very modern, and the buildings are so tightly packed together that it looks like a mess. I know New York has the Chrysler Building and whatever, but Shanghai and Chicago have very easily identifiable skylines that makes them so much better. Great Video tho.
i personally actually find chicago's skyline to be have a far more spectacular skyline than new york- nyc is just the freedom tower, empire state, and chrysler building surrounded by beige blobs. Chicago's skyline is full of character and life. Its personality is intoxicating.
For a person who went to college for architecture Chicago and New York should be higher in the rankings. #1, #2? Why? Because they show a diversity of architectural design and height over the past 100 plus years. Other cities, not bounded by height restrictions, only reflect new high rises within the past 15 years.
You gave New York got short shrift, here, using old photos (with no new WTC), unspectacular shots. IMO, NYC has the most dazzling skyline, ever, but you would never know it by looking at this video.
DGolus I have to disagree, I was so damn shocked I like shot my head foreword when I saw New York and Chicago make the list, both have the most boring skylines of any big city in the world. NYC has changed over time. From the 1800’s, to the 2010’s. Lots of buildings got built and destroyed for new, taller buildings. Overall, NYC is a great city by it’s skyline.
I agree Kyle, especially since the new WTC towers are filling in that big gap in lower Manhattan. They are beautiful buildings, but of course i'll never be the same again. :/

Very Good Man, Finally a Good list !!! ;) My personal list : I'm Italian Top 10: Dubai (2020 Dubai IconicTower !!!) New York City Shanghai (Sorry Hong Kong) Hong Kong Chicago Tokyo San Francisco (this is new entry in my list....cof cof...Salesforce Tower) Guangzhou Shenzhen (In 2020 this city... hehe...)
Pretty interesting list. You must travel like I do because most people overlook cities like Bangkok. For me, Hong Kong is #1, Singapore #2. I find Chicago's skyline & architectural style far more appealing than New York's. I'd put Atlanta before New York. Shanghai has a number of new stunning hi-rises since you released this video in 2012. Interesting no European cities made the list, not that they should. Once you visit Asia & return to the states everything looks so dated in America.
Singapore cant be on top 5 That is just your opinion ... Bcoz Singapore has only one skyline side is Marina bay, you can proof from every skyline of Sinapore you will see only 1 point... The city quite small and not many hight buildings like HK, Shanghai , Guangzhou , Bangkok, Tokyo But the good thing of Sinapore is a city so clean .. They grow plant beside the road .. Make city looks fresh on the ground
It's true Singapore has a limited skyline. But an amazing one. Far more stunning than almost any American city, better than mega cities like Tokyo, Mexico City, Sao Paulo, etc. Clearly a city needs to have a few million residents to compete. But I'd take Vancouvers skyline over Mexico City (which dwarfs it by population). For me, it's not a who has bigger metro. It's who is more classy, stylistic, unique, artistic, clean, safe, and cultural. For me, while I love Seattle's approach, especially as they destroy that horrible waterfront road (with tunnels), I still appreciate & respect Chicago & Atlanta's skylines over anything in New York. New York takes a decade to put up a few skyscrapers & the media goes nuts. Guess they haven't been to Bangkok or Shanghai lately. What takes a decade in NYC happens monthly in Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Bangkok. And cities like LA have no personality or identity. It's just a bunch of buildings built on sand. Mostly 1-4 story buildings. Even the beach is comical. Compare LA to Miami. Of course Miami has way better sand, a way better beach, and a lot more personality. But just visually compare it. LA is low rise, industrial, dirty, brown (as in sand vs grass/trees), and unimaginative. It sucks. Concrete jungle. I have to laugh when LA elites mock the "fly over states" because I've been to most of those states and they are a hell of a lot nicer than LA, and well under 50% the cost of living, often 25% the cost of LA. So for me, Singapore is high on my list because it's clean, unique, waterfront, and ambitious. But places like Dubai & Vegas are not on my list. Dubai like Vegas just has "developments" that gain international acclaim. But just look 2 blocks away and your are looking at sand, dirt, and 120F temps. Vegas was so proud when they knocked off the Singapore Flyer as the largest ferris wheel in the world. I've been on the SF and it's incredible. Waterfront. Amazing views. Or you could go on Vegas' Hi-Roller & look at parking lots & sand. So what if you are slightly bigger? That does not make you better or even remotely close to as good as the Singapore Flyer. To me, Dubai isn't even in the ballpark of cities like Singapore, Chicago, Bangkok, Atlanta, Miami, or even New York and Shanghai. And Shanghai is a semi-myth at this point. You have a stunning financial district that probably tops any major metro district in the States. But then there is the rest of the metro which leaves much to be desired. Services, traffic, housing quality, pollution, population density, education, etc. As for Macau, the gaming city with 6x the revenue of Vegas, which boasts the a per capital income almost double of that in the States, it's just another Vegas or Orlando. A worthless city. Filled with multi billion dollar casinos & no personality. The majority of residents live in ridiculously condensed hi rises, and yet travel magazines call it paradise. Obviously these Dubai, Macau, Vegas, and Orlando types are corporate travelers with a minimal world view. People who get travel ideas from the magazine provided by the airline on their flight. For me, I'll take style, friendly locals, architectural variety, culture / history, personality, safety, and cleanliness over corporate chain hotels, restaurants, and marketing slogans. Each of us has our own opinion. But for those of us who travel extensively and walk the streets of these towns, meet the people, explore the culture, I think the consensus even among Americans is that the most density of culture is in Europe & Asia. The historical beauty is in Europe and to a lesser extent SE Asia. And the new stunning cities are almost exclusively in SE Asia. After spending a month in Seoul, Hanoi, and Bangkok, I came back to spend a week in Philly & New York City. Two legendary American cities. And it left me depressed. We aren't even competitive. Old vs new. The aggressive vs the regulated. It's not just the buildings, it's the people. We've become lax & lazy while Asia is ambitious & hungry. And the trend is accelerating. And I've been to Hanoi, Seoul, Tokyo, Ho Chi Mihn City, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Bali, to name a few. I've also been to all but 4 USA states. In the last year I've been to Chicago, Philly, NYC, LA, Seattle, Atlanta, Orlando, Miami, Detroit, and Cincy. So I think I have a pretty current view on world affairs as seen through my own eyes. So whatever your opinion, I find it hard to find fault with Singapore. It may lack a little in personality but it's far cleaner, safer, and friendlier than any city I have ever visited in the States with over 1,000,000 residents.
Yipes! Hong Kong looks like the Emerald City of Oz! The Burj Al-Khalifa is terrifying, but the Empire State Building is still the most iconic building anywhere.
@@rijulregmi1798 he said 10 years. 5 of the tallest buildings in the city are under construction and will be finished within 3 years, so he's pretty bang on. You also might want to think about visiting your local optometrist because the skyline has totally changed. There is no city that comes even close to Toronto in North America when it comes to growth. There are currently 124 cranes in Toronto, Seattle is a distant second with 43.
pavel jamal I hope not. Those skyscrapers are ugly. In France (where I live) and Europe, it's fobiden. I don't know why don't do that in Dubai or Qatar. It's a random utilitarian architecture. Why don't build a very arab city with giant domes like we found in a lot of mosques. I can't understand!
+S.c Younge its a shame those countries have the tallest buildings in the world except for Dubai as no tourist will even bother visiting them. Ok a small majority visit them a year but out of 10, 000 people you and ill bet you will get less than 20 people saying they have been there.
The best natural skyline in the world is Chicago. What an aesthetically pleasing city! New York has too many brown buildings. Dubai is artificial. Of course Hong Kong is the best synthetic skyline out there but who could beat the natural charm of Chicago. I also like Houston and Dallas Skylines too along with their highway and road networks.
It may be matter of opinion, but I find San Francisco much more beautiful than Seattle. Also there just aren't that many tall buildings in Seattle. Vancouver seems to have hundreds more highrises making it much denser and more impressive to see in person. The Space Needle is very photogenic, but when looking at it in real life compared to say the Eiffel Tower in Paris or the CN Tower in Toronto it looks small and modest.
+Timothy Sutton I disagree, the new world trade center looks great in person, not sure if you ever saw it in person or not but that tends to make a difference.
+Timothy Sutton It looks a lot nicer in person. Also the memorial makes it even better, but the building wasn't made to look nice, they mainly focused on making it a building that will never fall and will withstand any obsticle
Tim I agree! I love my country but our architecture leaves a bit to be desired once you take a look around the world. China has some of the most beautiful buildings I've ever seen. They push the boundaries of typical floor plans and designs. Not diminishing the beauty of the memorial in any way, I'm referring to typical buildings and skyscrapers.
Lol there's no skyline in the world like Chicagos. .. u didn't even get the main view who ever created this video... drive down lake shore drive.. or coming down I-90 you will see the best view of the skyline.. Chicago all the way
Haile Duque lol I stay in the loop down town but I work in the subrubs. So after work I take i-90 and I swr there is no skyline like it. That and lake shore drive you have the best view of Chicago. Every Chicagon knows that haha
This list mainly contains Chinese and American cities indeed. I didn't do it on purpose. Simply, the cities with the best skylines are there. In Europe for instance, there are very few cities with a 'real skyline' because of the many old buildings that will not be demolished for urban renewal reasons. Bear in mind though that some other countries appear as well in this video (Thailand, Canada, Malaysia etc.).
The skyline at my home consists of large acreage of centuries old oak trees that are home to cicadas and birds that make peaceful sounds. Beyond that are floral and hay pastures fenced with cedar. There is only one neighbor in distant sight. Man made skylines are awesome, but I like my natural skyline much better.
i agree with everything in this video currently but when the world trade center and other significant projects in new york are completed i believe that it will be #1 again
amazing skylines, but Chicago's skyline tops new york's. new york seems crowded and all the buildings seem almost in top of each other. And there is no denying that dubai is impressive but I just don't like it.
Keep in mind that New York has twice the population of Chicago in roughly only 100 square miles more than the city limits of Chicago. New York is a much older city and the concentration of skyscrapers is much greater since Manhattan is an island and they build up! Yes, Chicago's is better situated in profile and it's noticeably newer in look compared to New York City.
Roberto Martínez Becerra Chicago is declining in Population so I don't think many people would love it. New York is a bit crowded on a few Islands but trust me, new York is better. Better food, Jobs, People, Skyscrapers and did I mention food already?
Asian skylines are massive but generic, hard to distinguish from one another.. North American,EU,Russian,Australian skylines are smaller yet distinctive and each have their own character. You know which city is which...Especially American ones.
Hard to distinguish? How, every photo of Kuala Lumpur has a pic of Petronas towers in it, same as New York City, you're American of course you find it easy to distinguish
hourgmorn The only reason Kuala Lumpur even makes it into "world's top skylines" lists is because of the Petronas towers. There isn't much else besides them and Kuala Lumpur tower.
hourgmorn I have never been to KL and have ignorance on my side :P The Petronas towers are my favorite outside the US (Chrysler Building is #1 overall). There is no question KL has a good skyline, but without the twin towers, it would probably go unmentioned in most lists.
I think Antarctica has the most awesome skyline in the world... who doesn't love skyline that were full of with cute penguins? :P
Danny evil true penguins are life but there are some in argentina too lol you made me wanna move to argentina to see penguins without dying because of cold weather thank you man thank you I like your comment and I subscribe to you
Then why doesn't the skyline that filled with colourful rays,fantastically-built skyscrapers, and as well as the scenery of Victoria Harbour the best?
But, they will melt away!.... 😬😬😬

+Lucas Fabio they have limited flights as it was on the pathway of flight routes so they have limited heights of 300m high
high and high ,, nice video
I can see number 13's skyline from my balcony!
Milwall FC 😂
Yipes! Hong Kong looks like the Emerald City of Oz! The Burj Al-Khalifa is terrifying, but the Empire State Building is still the most iconic building anywhere.
What's the biggest skyline in Appalachia there, champ? A very tall trailer?
what is Oz? Australia?
Song name:
Tritonal ft. Cristina Soto - Piercing Quiet [ Original Mix ] HQ
Great list, our top 5 is the same but in different order.
Name of the song please, skyscraper001. Btw, Manila will soon be part of the best skyline IMO. :)
song is "Piercing quiet by Tritonal feat. Cristina Soto"
Great collection, and agree to each one of it. Have been to 5 yet, and HongKong's, is indisputably the BEST :-)
Great viedo!! Whos music??
I'm fully of your opinion: HK n'1!!!. I've been in NY, Chigago, Seattle, Canton, Beijing, Tokyo.....skyscrapers, skyline ??? The best is Hong Kong
Barcelona; Budapest, Granada, Praha; Paris; Rio de Janeiro, New York, Teheran; Tokio; Edinburgh; Cape Town; London; Hong Kong, St Petersburg
I know, Toronto has a stunning skyline already. Just imagine how Toronto will look like in ten years' time! :)
Well it's been 7 years and the skyline is not too different lol
@@rijulregmi1798 he said 10 years. 5 of the tallest buildings in the city are under construction and will be finished within 3 years, so he's pretty bang on. You also might want to think about visiting your local optometrist because the skyline has totally changed. There is no city that comes even close to Toronto in North America when it comes to growth. There are currently 124 cranes in Toronto, Seattle is a distant second with 43.
Toronto is a Great City.
Great video, nice sound. Please who sang the song?
Year 2025 will Dubai be in the first place
pavel jamal I hope not. Those skyscrapers are ugly. In France (where I live) and Europe, it's fobiden. I don't know why don't do that in Dubai or Qatar. It's a random utilitarian architecture. Why don't build a very arab city with giant domes like we found in a lot of mosques. I can't understand!
+Doney Hon it is because all the building including burj khalifa are build by foreign people...not an architect from dubai...maybe...
+S.c Younge its a shame those countries have the tallest buildings in the world except for Dubai as no tourist will even bother visiting them.
Ok a small majority visit them a year but out of 10, 000 people you and ill bet you will get less than 20 people saying they have been there.
ill ask 100 people and ill know that at 98% would bother with Saudi . I ve been to Dubai and that was awesome
No I never want to go to the middle eastern country bc they are cold blooder people.
Chicago baby!!
Lumpur,malaysia..
MerchantofTarshish
HK is full of mountain and sea and islands
It may be matter of opinion, but I find San Francisco much more beautiful than Seattle. Also there just aren't that many tall buildings in Seattle. Vancouver seems to have hundreds more highrises making it much denser and more impressive to see in person. The Space Needle is very photogenic, but when looking at it in real life compared to say the Eiffel Tower in Paris or the CN Tower in Toronto it looks small and modest.
is it just me or is americas architecture a little boring
Im not referring to older buildings. Like the new world trade center... its so sophisticated and elegant but BORING. it doesnt stand out
+Timothy Sutton I disagree, the new world trade center looks great in person, not sure if you ever saw it in person or not but that tends to make a difference.
Techy Asians With Their Businesses And Buildings
Now Singapore hve change. Hvd Marina Bay Sands hotel , Marina Bay Residents condominiums , and The Sail At Marina Bay ( Condominums ).
My personal choices are Singapore, Dubai, Hong Kong, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Miami, Seoul and Manila.
Macam x pecaye je kL no.9! Bangge sangat2! Teramat setuju Hong Kong no.1 sebab pemandangan waktu malam Bandarayenye memang cantik x terkate! 😘👌
Lol there's no skyline in the world like Chicagos. .. u didn't even get the main view who ever created this video... drive down lake shore drive.. or coming down I-90 you will see the best view of the skyline.. Chicago all the way
I used to live somewhere in bucktown, and I could see it all at my house close to western
Haile Duque lol I stay in the loop down town but I work in the subrubs. So after work I take i-90 and I swr there is no skyline like it. That and lake shore drive you have the best view of Chicago. Every Chicagon knows that haha
Read the description you butthead
Nah. New York at night with the light's is amazingly breathtaking
10-year later version, showing more continents
yay Kuala Lumpur
The skyline at my home consists of large acreage of centuries old oak trees that are home to cicadas and birds that make peaceful sounds. Beyond that are floral and hay pastures fenced with cedar. There is only one neighbor in distant sight. Man made skylines are awesome, but I like my natural skyline much better.
Evidently, you are very comfortable in a rural country setting. Nothing wrong with that! Everyone is entitled to their personal preferences.
i agree with everything in this video currently but when the world trade center and other significant projects in new york are completed i believe that it will be #1 again
Yes I agree spot on
dream on
what's the name of the music? can somebody tell me please?
amazing skylines, but Chicago's skyline tops new york's. new york seems crowded and all the buildings seem almost in top of each other. And there is no denying that dubai is impressive but I just don't like it.
Finally, someone I can agree with. I think New Yorks skyline is overrated. Chicago has the best in the USA imo.
I really do agree, but i think new york has got a really unique skyline, you know those old buildings just make it beautiful
OSTARAEB4 Well... Chicago survived a fire...
Roberto Martínez Becerra Chicago is declining in Population so I don't think many people would love it. New York is a bit crowded on a few Islands but trust me, new York is better. Better food, Jobs, People, Skyscrapers and did I mention food already?
Philadelphia.
#5 Dubai is the best
Good Job :)
Yes, Hong Kong's is the best
They should have added Miami and San Fransisco. Maybe Melbourne, and Rio too.
Asian skylines are massive but generic, hard to distinguish from one another.. North American,EU,Russian,Australian skylines are smaller yet distinctive and each have their own character. You know which city is which...Especially American ones.
It's not about whether you can distinguish them (which you can). It's about which ones have you best skyline, which European cities just don't have.
I understand, every single photo of KL is the Petronas towers, I kinda hate it, see to believe. Don't know if you have been here before.
hourgmorn I have never been to KL and have ignorance on my side :P
The Petronas towers are my favorite outside the US (Chrysler Building is #1 overall). There is no question KL has a good skyline, but without the twin towers, it would probably go unmentioned in most lists.
