Thanks for sharing this solution. I tried it out and found an even better solution based on your findings. Before you move your camera and nulls from AE to Maya using Live Link, make sure your Maya fps is set to 24, which is the default frame rate. Bring in your camera from AE and then set your frame rate to the same as your footage. Check your camera animation in the animation graph. Your sequence length should be correct and each key frame should be on a frame. Hope this helps.
Just as an update, I use your workflow for this also now. Start at 24 fps in Maya, drag the ingredients over then switch maya to 25fps (or whatever the ae comp frame rate was).
For anyone running into a similar issue when importing Maya transform data into AE via live link: Changing the Maya framerate didn't fix the issue for me. I have a workaround but it basically circumvents the need for live link. I make locators in my maya scene, parent them to the transforms I want to track, bake them, rename them "null01, null02 etc" ( Naming the locators with a "null" prefix is important, otherwise AE will just throw them out. ), delete the constraints, export them as an .MA file, then import the file into AE. Note that 3D layers parented to this tracking data will appear huge, set the scale of the layer to 0.5% to get it back to normal.
Thanks for cropping it out, its fuckinnnnngggggggg 3 30 AM and I understood literally nothing. I have 3 shots to complete and render out by this evening. THANSKDLS A LOTR
hahahaha lol been there many many times, it's horrible but don't take your frustration out on me. It's simple, just change to 24fps in Maya if you rendered out at 25fps from AE.
I'm beyond angry and exhausted that this is like, the only place I found an answer to this. Not at you at all: You're amazing. But why this isn't more commonly broadcasted I don't know. I know people are more likely to use C4D over Maya when working with AE compositing, but this is ridiculous.
I have found that the latest AE and the latest Maya 'seem' to play better together when live linking.I still live link, then switch maya to 24 fps just as a precaution but I am pretty sure I have switched it back again and all was good..
Thanks for sharing this. Question about your source file, was it also 25fps? It will most likely take the source framerate when tracking the camera, though your composition preview in AE is set to be 25fps. Meaning that, as long as you match the sourcefile framerate, there should be no issues.
I can drag a solid into the live link from AE to Maya but when I drag in the Camera it Crashes Maya. Any reason for why this is? Also my scene to be flipped 90 degrees.
Hey, I'm just landing on this subject. My Cam + Solid from AE look fantastic on Maya once I manually sync the frame rate from origin (AE) and destiny (Maya). But everything is in strangely converted coordinates like in your example. So when I try to import my scene to the recently AE->Maya scene, I must rotate everything to be in the same plane...I haven't succeeded yet.
Hey there MG, question. I've been trying to figure out how to get a 3D track without the expense of a Syntheyes or BouJou. So I came across this method within AE. Unfortunately, the 'Run Script' command does not work. There is nothing saved anywhere on my machine. Any ideas?
i wanna ask you, why every i try camera tracking in ae my null or solid not really in the right position the solid looks right in the first frame but in the last frame looks like not in right place
I agree, I have the same troubles. You have to make sure that ae and maya have exactly the same frame rate and exactly the same start frame but even then it doesn't always work correctly. I am having this problem with a project I am working on right now !!
@@MayaGuytutorials i found to fix that problem, if u are using 25 fps in ae, and than change the setting of maya to 24 fps, it is weird but it work perfectly for me

Amazing!! You and Maya Guy just saved my final project!! Thank you!!

You dropped this, king 👑

@@MayaGuytutorials I'm sorry but thanks for your response. But the footage is shot and tracked on 30 fps, could I please know what to do now

But yeah, it's a bit of a joke!
You and Jerry are literal life savers!! Thank you soooo much!!
Thank you so much for making this video it was super helpful and very clear.

reopen the crashed project, it works
Sorry about the fps frame range being cut off in this video !
Sorry don't butter the biscuit, pal. Sorry don't walk the dog.

Love it.
thx
what a pain compared to blender...and paid
True but the subscription isnt a scratch on what we earn as Maya artist so its not really a problem.
