@@lyleholland2803 I agree with @nexus2691 . This fight has constantly been brought up since the first message boards as the best fight in DBZ, period. Partially because of the call backs and technique from even Dragon Ball era, as well as the creativeuse of techniques, like the Instant Transmission Kamehameha. Not to mention the absolute PEAK animation.The Gohan vs Cell fight was better from a narrative standpoint. More memorable lines and moments for sure. But if you want Raw Fighting in DBZ, its Goku vs Cell, its Goku vs Majin Vegeta, and its Goku vs Vegeta - Saiyan Saga. Notice how Vegeta is in every fight.
The Cell fight is so good because it draws from a lot of the previous fights Goku has has previously. It's a greatest hits of Goku's career as a warrior.

Awesome fight. The peak of Z. And yeah, Goku's mistake wasn't giving Cell the Sensu (lowkey, if Cell had not been recovered I'm certain he would have killed Gohan out of frustration.) Goku's biggest mistake was thinking Gohan was just like him. Gohan has the potential, but not the drive. He fights only when he needs to, not for the love of getting stronger.
yeah without the senzu bean Gohan would have been slightly stronger than an exhausted Cell so he definitely would have gotten frustrated and boomed the planet. We seem him try that exact shit when Gohan is SSJ2 and styling on him.
Dunno... Vegeta vs Goku was maybe the best, animation and impact wise. Frieza was epic but too drawn out. This one felt a bit too friendly.. GohanSSJ2 vs Cell was too short. The Buu saga just dragged out BUT Majin Geets got his flowers IMO
That is true goku do be creative with the kamehameha the instant kamehameha. Shooting kamehameha from his feet in his fight against piccolo in the tournament to fly and hit him. Everyone else just always uses kamehameha regularly but goku is really out here mixing it up whenever the moment calls for it.

Goku giving Cell the senzu bean is valid af but db fans really just don't take the time to think about it. Goku understands Gohan's power more than anyone, he knows that he needs to be backed into a corner for it to come out. A weakened Cell wouldn't have been strong enough to really make Gohan feel like he had no other option than to crash out, so Goku gave cell a bean to make that happen.
Not really, he assumed Gohan was like him and loved to fight. Piccolo had to tell Goku that Gohan isnt a fighter and he only trained to be around Goku.

After fighting Frieza, Goku changed in that he realized not all people can change and it is best to just kill them. He was going for the kill after fighting evil villains after Frieza, prior to that he was handing out second chances to everyone vegeta, piccolo, ginyu members.

I think Satan’s role as a savior is a bit overblown because if the world has known about the Z fighters’ heroics during Cell games, they would have given Goku all the energy when he first asked them to during the Buu Spirit Bomb, so his contributions were based solely off the fact that he took the credit for himself. And his relationship with Buu I think wouldn’t have changed if he’s recognized as the savior or not.
But for a regular human Satan is very brave. He single handedly saved the world like 3 times in the Buu Saga. And when his back is against the wall he'll do whatever he can no matter how out matched he is

Honestly I think people overestimate how much Goku sold by giving Cell the sensu. In Goku’s mind, Gohan was just like him in the sense that he would be ecstatic to fight someone as strong as Cell, plus, Goku knew Gohan and Cell’s strength and figured that Gohan was better. The main issue was uh oh Gohan is like 10 years old and has already been through 80 different potential roots for PTSD and they all revolve around fighting
The real fumble that I don’t see enough people talking about is how he just threw his 10 year old traumatised Nam(ek) war veteran son into the deep end and expected him to be all giddy and excited to deck Cell, like after 1 year in the time chamber Goku didn’t think to mention “yeah you’re strong af, I’m gonna have my fun first but then you’re probably gonna have to mop Cell up after me alr?” Cause that poor man had no clue what the plan was and had no time to mentally prep until Goku fed him to the lions

I think goku gave cell the senzu because he knew he had reduced cells energy to a point where he wouldn’t be able to actually challenge gohan and thus wouldn’t be able to push gohan to the breaking point he needed to go ssj2. And ssj2 WAS NEEDED in order to actually fully eliminate cell. He needed gohan to fully let go in order to destroy every molecule of cell. Goku knew he likely wouldn’t kill cell with the warp kamehameha , he was “stress testing” cell’s durability. The entire fight was essentially goku sizing up cell so he could confirm what it would take to actually kill him. The man is fucking combat genius , he was three steps ahead at every point in this saga.

Honestly the best fights in Dragon Ball are the ones where both opponents are seemingly equally match. Goku vs Cell, Goku vs Majin Vegeta and Piccolo vs 17 are my favorite fights because of that.
Man, people really don't understand the character development Goku had from the Freeza saga to the Cell saga. Goku sparred his enemies because he believed everyone has the capacity to be a better person (and cause he wants a rematch). After fighting Freeza and letting him go twice, Goku realizes there are people who just won't change and need to be put down.
Goku never intended to spare Cell. He knew that Gohan's potential would be enough to beat him but that didn't mean Goku wasn't trying to end Cell himself. He fully intended to kill Cell with that Warp Kamehameha.
In “defense” of Goku giving Cell the senzu, Gohan probably never woulda been pushed hard enough by Cell to reach SSJ2.

goku wasn't trying to kill cell with the instant transmision kamehameha. he knew he couldnt do it, he fought at his full ability, hoping cell was as well to show gohan the pinicle of cells power so that he could finish the job. thats why he gave up after this. it was like "yep that was the best i could do, gohan, finish it up for me"
Ok, after thinking about it, Goku giving Cell a Senzu bean was brilliant. (Before you get your pitch forks out, let me explain) Cell was hurt, yes she his fight with Goku. Had Gohan stepped in while Cell was weak he would be on the defensive and going for the kill instead of paying with his food. With cell back at full power, the Zenki he got was minor, cell went into the fight to toy with Gohan, and bring out his full power for a good fight.
Now there is 2 main questions that bother me
1 Why didn't Goku grab Long Kai, Gregory, & Bubbles after Instant Transportation to his world he had 10 seconds at least to pull it off.
2. Why didn't Goku grab a second senzu and ate one himself after the fight?
