Back in 2004/2005 I loved this game. One of my earliest memories was hanging out in my oldest brother's room and playing his computer. I'd play this, pajama Sam, midtown madness, Freddy fish, Paint, an old star wars game or two, and RuneScape.
This game was a huge part of my childhood, a great memory all around. Still, the challenges could've used a lot more variety and the island needed more accessible locations.
I remember playing this! I’m 28 now, was born in 93! My grandfather was always a computer guy so we were always lucky to have computers throughout our childhood! Putt Putt, Reader Rabbit, Jump Start, Big Thinkers, Freddi Fish! I remember all of those! Sometimes I wish I could go back to that time, as kids we really don’t realize how carefree life is and how good we have it until it’s gone!

My older brother and I spent so many damn HOURS on this fantastic game lol then one day, our game got messed up the part where the guy was like “ Hi, I’m Bill Ding” it would kind of freeze and he would say ,”Hi, I’m Bill Ding” literally forever. No matter what, every time you got to that part it would freeze and then repeat. We still laugh about it to this day 😂❤
It was fun watching this because when I first played this game when I was younger, I played it on a Pentium III rig which made it at the unintended speed. I did not care then but it is crazy to see how it was intended to be played. Speaking of which, it is possible to run the game on a modern rig at the proper speed in Direct3D.
Mr. Eight-Three-One Actually, using dgvoodoo2 and Dxtory which has a good framerate limiter even in the base shareware version, it works pretty darn good actually IMHO. Not only can you upscale with dgvoodoo2, but since it is a DirectX wrapper, it perfectly runs it in Direct3D without a lot of hassle AND you can use antialiasing to make it look smoother.
Also playing with the framerate limiter, 15 FPS seems to be the sweet spot to be somewhat smooth, but also at a right speed so things aren't spazzing like mad. At worst it is like an average N64 game at that speed which isn't too bad since it is not a high action game to play.
10 FPS is the only one I found that perfectly synced up the shelf switch in the helicopter building activity with the sound effects, but yeah, 15 is also pretty tolerable.
I loved playing this back around 2005 when we had the older computer with Windows XP as the operating system. Thank you for sharing this, it brings back memories that had been forgotten as the years passed.

I remember there was like a hat store that was only open on certain days of the week, maybe it was the weekend because I could only play on the school computer during the weekdays and never got to go in

Next theme is Broken circuit by Marika Suzuki, and also fuse man’s stage theme from MegaMan 11. He is also the second generation form of fuse man, and second generation lightning ninja in Ninjago. Other powers that Nick has, aside from the special weapon for the robot master that he has the second form of, he can run at the speed of lightning, and can basically go from one side of the island to the police station in a matter of a flash of lightning.
It's pretty clear that this game was very limited the island is laughably small you could lap the island in under a minute. When I played the game the entire score Cube was red and when the game ended the guy would always say that there's some things that I sort of missed and I always was frustrated by that because I thought I'd done everything, so I would scour the island looking for any little Easter egg I could find but couldn't find a single one, at one point I thought there was a hidden pirate ship type of level because there's a door that you go do that you knock on that pirate answers that doesn't let you inside and I thought maybe there was some trick to make him open the door. But I never could figure it out the only good character was Pepper cuz he's the only one where you actually fight the brickster. It was a nice game but it just felt kind of short and empty with content but what could you expect from 1995? Still it's cool to see you play it.
Out of curiosity i looked this up trying to find the games my brother and I played ln our old gateway with Windows 2000. I only remembered the intro 😂 and of course, 5 year old me remembers it looking a lot more impressive, but the nostalgia remains.

Yeah when you're Pepper the sign is spelled wrong. This is due to that Pepper can't read and ties in to how Brickster tricked him into releasing him.

Its wierd seeing a game again that I havent played in around 18 years
Out of curiosity i looked this up trying to find the games my brother and I played ln our old gateway with Windows 2000. I only remembered the intro 😂 and of course, 5 year old me remembers it looking a lot more impressive, but the nostalgia remains.
this was truly ahead of its time
